Just got my first mech keyboard for work, a Ducky One TKL with Cherry brown switches. Pretty good for the price. Contrary to what most ppl say how silent they are, there's still a considerable 'tock' sound. No one has complained yet. :)

I've been on the fence to get a poker. can't decide if I can live without F keys, though I don't use it much. still looks better with a nice set of keycaps.

please share how you like or not!

i owned 3 kb, red & brown switches from filco. i bought clear switch for poker 3, actuation force is 55g while red & brown are both 45g to actuate. i need to bottom out more after buying this kb and my fingers do feel tired! the body itself is make out of aluminium and the key caps are pbt. very solid kb and definitely a good buy!

Just to add and share, i bought this from aliexpress for the kb to protect it from dust. Filco kb which i bought have this plastic hardcover which i can use but poker 3 don't have.

Hi guys,

so what is the trend for mech keyboards now? Is Cherry MX still the best keys? Where do you guys buy? SLS? Or Taobao is better? Thanks!

If you're just getting into mechanical keyboards, you owe it to yourself to head down to a shop and test out what your preferences are. Cherry MX comes in many forms - blue, brown, red, black, green, clears, etc. What you will like is entirely a personal preference.

I used to like Cherry MX reds but now I am very much in love with Topre switches, so i use a Leopold FC660C.

choice of keycaps, quite limited. if you buy from taobao, that might be a good place to start looking, there are quite decent sets for ok prices.

if you want swee ones, originative, and massdrop is the way to go i guess. but they are easily $150usd or more.

i still am looking for a couple of sets, for use at home and at work. been using shitty keycaps, and it is making me not like typing. lol...

I used a Filco from 2011 to last year when it died. Cherry brown switches. Then I switched to a Thermaltake which uses kailh brown switch. Doesn't feel as good and one year on some of my keystrokes are repeating. So... Just wondering, are kailh switches better now? Which shops have topre switches for display?

I'm looking to get a mechanical keyboard for the office, where I work with 20 people in an open space. I wanna keep things as quiet as possible -- what should I be looking at?

right now only the corsair strafe rgb has silent switches I think.... but once the exclusivity rights expire many other keyboards should start having mx silent switches.

I think a red, black or brown switch one will be good. depends what type of feel you want, tactile or smooth, and how heavy you want the switches. to be.

My SP SA Industrial keycaps are here at last!
Currently using them with my CM NovaTouch, which I bought recently.

I think this will be my end game for my home use for now, until a nicer set of keycaps appear, or my NovaTouch dies on me.
Looking at buying other Topre keyboards for office use.

One thing about NovaTouch; it's my first keyboard with Topre switches and i'm loving it! the satisfying "thock" just feels so much better than MX keys. I took the plunge without even trying it out, and i'm glad it turned out to be really pleasant.

as others had mentioned, red black and brown are the quieter of the bunch. if it's still too loud, you can opt to use O-rings which will dampen the sound significantly. however, the feel of the keys will be affected as well, and in my case, i hate the feel of o-rings.

other options includes Topre switches, which are kinda costly. cheapest topre keyboards around will set you off by low 200 bucks. and topre switches is really quite a weird product where some people swear by it, and some just hate it to the core.

Darknights;

that set looks pretty awesome, I hope i'll find the "end game" too. actually saw some nice sets, but really too much to pay for them.
