it's science

science:
it's an oxidiser, production of free radical upon application is effective against bacteria/fungus. It dehydrates the accumulated sebum & fluid & clear skin by increasing skin renewal.in doing so, it reduces clogged pores achieving lower bacteria count & that's how it fix the problem at its root.

application:
application of BP 2.5 should be on entire affected area(which usually means entire face) & not spot treatment as it works to eradicate problem at root zone, avoid eye region & other sensitive area, application should be continuous even after acne clears away, once stopped bacteria count will increase again. oil free moisturiser should be used after application.

benefit:
-it does not cause bacteria resistance unlike antibiotic which usually see a spike in improvement of skin at the beginning & overtime usage w/o dermatologist supervision leads to rendering of drugs ineffective.
-cheap.
-widely available w/o prescription

who tried before:
Ex patients of NSC would have received similar advise after skin condition stabalise & before they are discharged from the clinic, the dermatologist would usually advise the patient on how to 'maintain' & 'manage' the skin & this method of application is one of them. I'm one of them.

wad are the benefits benzoyl peroxide 2.5?

how abt this prouct? but it is for spot 1 not whole face.

IS BP very costly since use on whole face?

Acne-Clear-Cream_1.jpg

how abt this?

sry kinda confuse overt normal pimple cream and BP.

my face is now almost clear of pimple BUT the problem now is on my beard area. Due to shaving, pimple keep poping out on the surface on and below my chin and also my neck. And these pimples take a very long time to heal, been wks and the pimple although smaller but is still there, and is dark in colour, black red ???

just got a aftershave to deal with this, will that help? any advise?

its not the eeky

Ideally, application of BP is long term(preventive) & not spontaneous. Having said that, doesn't mean it can't be used as spot treatment if generally your skin is clear with only occasional bumps like once every few week, then you can apply just on that area at the first sign of spot & continue to do so everytime you washes your face, application should continue for atleast 1 week even after the pimple has eased away while the method of application stays the same BP->moisturiser. BP 2.5% is very different from 5/10% which may give nasty flash/peel/itch, only during the initial stage your face will flash/peel slightly for awhile but after 1 week all these signs should have eased away & disappeared.

What's the rush~~ to wait?

NSC with referral
patient, tight-budget individuals.

pvt clinic/NSC w/o referral
impatient, farther/mother subsidised individuals.

It would be nice to have finance backing but wouldn't it be nicer to avoid contributing additional stress to the person financing your 'ego therapy' during tough economic times :s13:

maximmaxim bro,

so which will u recommend? NSC or Maple clinic/private clinic. :D

scrutanise the ingredient & consult a dematologist

The menscience acne lotion is nothing more than BP in a glorified packaging w/ some exotic ingredient like green tea/Allantoin which supposedly help sooth the skin, but the problem is how much % of those ingredient are contained within, it is a marketing technique to use 'spot treatment' instead of 'apply on affected area', as spot treatment gives the impression of effective/precision whereas 'affected area' sounds like 'dispersed effect'.

the other pic shows a 'sulphur' product w/zinc which is also commonly found in leading pharmacies, sulphur oxidises on skin & has antibacterial properties similar to that of BP, i'm not sure of the effectiveness & mechanism behind it. whereas zinc has supporting role in helping skin to heal but the actual absorption of zinc through skin is a gray zone. The oil that's in the tube that's used to prevent 'caking' of the sulphur cream may cause irritation, the lotion version under the same company ICM is often recommended for large area of coverage(chest) & hard to reach area(back/neck) due to the ease of application.

If you want BP with moisturising ingredient, you can buy Benzac AC 2.5, a water based BP with poloxamer 182,glycerin etc commonly found in many products and act as lubricant on the skin

otherwise panoxyl 2.5% will do the same job except w/o any those added moisturising agent

panoxyl_acqaugel_2.5.jpg

actually there is no need for added moisturising agent since moisturiser should rightfully be used after application of BP

they are both inexpensive products, same price for both product($/g) except they come in different size packaging definitely cheaper than the 'spot treatment' products. Manufacturer will charge more for 'spot treatment' products as psychologically consumer will relate 'spot treatment' with 'less amount used', in that sense consumer will think it's 'value for money', in actual fact, consumer tend to use more than they need as they are conscience of the amount used as in sufficient so they tend to 'overdose' whereas for 'apply over affected area' products such as the formal 2, consumer tend to pinch on it due to the reverse mentality.

that's a razor burn you are describing which can be due to many reason, your technique(too close, shaving w/o lubrication etc) been the most crucial part, skin sensitivity whether you have eczema or easily irritated skin etc. have you tried plucking instead of shaving, it may sound ridiculous to pluck so much, but you can do a patch test pluck a certain area eg above your chin, continue to do so & observe the neck area which receive shaving as compared to above chin which been plucked, advantage of plucking, minimum irritation, skin stays smoother for longer period of time. otherwise after shave, you can either tone with a alcohol free toner->BP->moisturise or rinse with water->dab dry->BP->aftershave cream/moisturiser. but the problem may lies with repeated irritation to the inflamed skin w/o giving it sufficient time to recover. when pimple turn dark colour/blackish red, it can be due to increase in inflammatory of pimple w/o proper treatment or if it becomes big lumpy dark reddish/black & hurts when you try to squeeze it & don't seem to get anything out of it can be lymph node infection which will gradually cease away even w/o doing anything but can speed up by applying BP in the region to cut down on bacteria count otherwise it may be infection deepening expending the well of bacteria from within causing it to be more inflamed on the surface. A visit to GP/dermatologist will help resolve the real issue which can be a combination.

kiehl has a range of alcohol free toner which are recommended for aftershave

clarins also has alcohol/oil free aftershave that may help ease your problem

What colour is BP, is cream rite, how to know when to apply mositurizer? normally lotion or gel dry can apply the next 1, but cream, how to know is absorb and apply the next step?

oH JUST notice aftershave is actually toner, i just got menscience aftershave, will consider your recommendation, menscience quite EX

pluck, i dun like, will use your recommended steps, well go find the BP cream u recommend tml, guardian or watson shld have right

actually the pimple i mention mostly happen under the chin connecting to the neck area.

I shave against the growth of my beard, cos only this way can have a close shave, my beard grow out very fast thats y i wan a close shave. does the shaving gel make a difference against pimple occurring? currently using gellitte , almost got lab series 2day but only get the aftershave to try 1st

yeah it kinda does.

ive got thick facial hair. my upper lip has this black line across it after i shave. if i dun use enough warm water it even more obvious. it exfoliates i guess. i've read online on the proper ways of shaving but can i get rid of the line? its also prob there under my chin area. if i had facial hair i'd prob have a 5 o'clock shadow.

is waxing it off going to help reduce the line or make the facial hair finer?

menscience is good

i am using their facial wash, toner, and the acne lotion

the lotion applies to the whole face.

then go for the spot repair using the spot repair cream if there is new outbreak

initially the face gets red.. but after a few days .. ur skin will get used to it and become normal

their scrub is not bad too...
wanted to buy the mask.. but out of stock

so the spot repair does make ur acne/blemish turns redder? is normal? is it really effective coz once i see the super redness, i stop using, i let the acne heal by itself.

Neither of the product is cream like sulphur
Benzac AC-lotion, disappear after application
panOxyl-translucent gel, disappear from application

spread out the lotion/gel after doting on 5pt of face, spread out using pad of your finger not the tip, go in gentle outward circular motion, you know it's absorbed when it is completely dry thats when mosituriser can be applied

after shave can be in toner/lotion jus make sure it's alcohol/oil free as alcohol can worsen your current condition by agitating the skin & drying the surface of the skin especially acne region causing a more active sebum production.

your shaving gel is crucial to the occurrence of pimple & so is your technique, shaving gel should not contain ingredient that will aggravate your current condition like alcohol, menthol etc

manage in the loooong run

mild flash after application of BP is normal, use a mild concentration like BP 2.5 for same effectiveness lessen the side effect(peeling/redness), starting w/BP 10% is definitely not advisable by any dermatologist as you need time for skin to accustomed to BP & excessive peeling/redness is not uncommon with BP 10%, continuous application of BP with low concentration is much recommended then spontaneous application with hi concentration is like diet- frequent meal but small serving instead of large serving irregular frequency- though that doesnt apply when you go for buffet :s13:

so the spot repair does make ur acne/blemish turns redder? is normal? is it really effective coz once i see the super redness, i stop using, i let the acne heal by itself.
