Surface 2 is ARM-based so can't run Oracle Java7 or normal windows software unless the developers port their software.

JavaScript on the other hand is built into IE11 & is very fast. So it depends on whether the developers can port things to html5/JavaScript.

ya, this is killing point,
makes RT worse off than other atom based tablets like Dell venue 8.

by the way, Msft released a 4G AT&T version surface 2,
with mobile data is more useful

SP1s have been officially taken off the Singaporean market, I was Funan this afternoon browsing for one and it looks the SP1s are gone in order to make way for the 2. Looks like the only way to get one here is to buy online.

I was looking at upgrading from a S1 to a 2, but really, I'd just be a glutton for punishment doing so. Win8 works great on a tablet form factor, I love the build quality of the 1 (which has carried over to the S2) and the S2's finally got a decent CPU to power it (Tegra 3 is a shyte outdated CPU that should have never been anywhere near the Surface), but it's the woeful state of the app store that has me looking at the Pro, not the S2. I don't think it's hyperbole to declare that the Win8 app store is stillborn, I've had the tablet for a year and we're still waiting for a decent media player app. Mobile HD gets me by but subtitle support is spotty, and I hear complaints about MKV playback all the time. That we only have ONE decent media player app after all this time is shocking, simply shocking. VLC just came out after like, forever, but it's for x86 machines, which can run the desktop version of VLC anyway. One year just to code a friggin Metro frontend, screw those guys.

In any case it's a Pro for me. I'd have to be a stupidly hopeless fanboy to still suffer the barren emptiness that is the app store on a RT tablet. I'm not looking at the SP2 as I don't think it's worth the price jump from a 1. Dual-position kickstand and longer battery life are nice, but uh not for 500 bucks more.

this was the guy i read on xda on his 1tb mod.
Surface Pro 1TB [Mod] - xda-developers

Absolute pain. Literally the most difficult mod to a consumer electronic I have ever done. That said, the second time around is MUCH easier and less stressful. It took about 2.5hrs to get the screen off and then various bits of time over the next week trying to find proper tools/consumables to complete it. Despite all that, I highly recommend the mod as it has made my surface much more useful to me.

A couple tips:
Use a hair dryer on high instead of a heatgun around the screen edges. The helps prevent overheating/damage/melting plastic
You will need about 30-40 guitar picks. I chose light and medium grade
Heat the bottom of the screen last and run a plastic spudger along the entire bottom edge while heating. Put slight pressure in the direction of separation and let the heat do the work. It will move along when it's ready. Do not separate the bottom more than about 2-4mm apart
Use a very thin metal spudger along with a flashlight to locate the two ribbon cables at the bottom, insert the spudger, and slide across the bottom beneath the ribbon to separate the ribbon without tearing it off the display. THEN insert the picks. If it separated from the display, you will lose touch sensitivity in the display and need a new one. Be very careful
Make sure you have Torx T2-T5 and enough screw containers to separate all the different screws
Use the linux "dd" command line utility to clone the drive. Yes, it takes longer but it avoids much hassle later on. Just do it. It works
Make sure you disconnect the power ribbon cable when you remove the LCD screen so you aren't operating on a powered unit
The T2 screws along the inside bottom edge have loctite on them and strip easily. Use a soldering iron set to low heat to heat them slightly before removing. This loosens the loctite
Remove all the old adhesive from the edges. Use 3m 9495LE tape to reseal it. It's cleaner. Find it here: Invalid Request
Make sure you cover edges with tape sufficiently
When you reattach the power ribbon cable, press it down firmly and flat on to the board/backside. If there is any "hump" left in it, it will distort the area of the screen above it. Tolerances are very low here

basically he used the ifixit tear down guide too.

That's the same reason that I bought the SP1 2 weeks ago rather than waiting for SP2. Now enjoying my SP1 :D
