Didn't happen to my returned surface 2 before. I suspect there's a manufacturing defect in all surface 2. So many issues coming up.

Best to call them up to arrange the pick up. Alternatively go to my service.surface.com. A third party company will pick it up from you and wait 7 working days receive your refurbished used set :D

If you need any higher level Microsoft specialist for your complaint, I can pm you their emails.

Guys is it possible that my Surface is rusting?? Barely a year old, still under warranty.

Bumps are appearing on the sides of the device, the back is fine. The bumps are part of the metal, cannot scrape them off. Surface has never been in contact with any weird chemicals and I carry it around in a laptop sleeve. Do you think Microsoft will trade a new one or is it rusting due to me, the user's, fault?

Doesn't look normal at all. My Surface Pro has nothing like that, even though the paint has been scratched off in several places, but that's because of the way it's been abused. Try to contact Microsoft's Support via their website. They should ask you for the pictures and then if it all goes well, they'll get someone to pick it up and replace it.

Contact Microsoft Assisted Support for Surface

I hate contacting Microsoft.. My lunchtime is usually rushed so I can barely make time to call them, then when arranging for delivery the earliest I can be home by is 7. Their support staff have a weird accent....

Most of their support staff are located in Philippines. If you are lucky, your call may be directed to UK.

Generally I avoid reading anything by "journalists" who don't do research on a device and its intended users first. This means that any article that compares a Surface Pro or Galaxy Note type of tablet to an iPad, or fails to properly evaluate the digitizer, gets blacklisted and I'll avoid anything from that journalist ever again. This is one of those articles.

He is right on the point on the Windows marketplace though. It's still a buggy piece of mess, and some apps can install from there while others lead you to an outside link to download. There are so many times when I can't even load the marketplace up even with no problems on my internet with my Windows 8 laptop. It's so frustrating.

True, although that's partially mitigated by the full Windows OS being able to run legacy programmes which are arguably more important for productivity - it'd be great if a review actually goes into detail by reviewing use cases and available solutions instead of just citing numbers of apps, because seriously, having 400000000 messaging apps means nothing to me if I'm only going to use whatsapp. As for bugs, yeah it looks like MS is taking its own sweet time in ironing out the Windows Store. I suspect they'll only focus on it when they finally get around to marrying the RT and Windows Phone ecosystems. There are other longstanding bugs regarding WiFi not waking up properly with the device too that I wish MS would fix with the original Surface Pro.

Meanwhile I'd love to know how well the full Windows 8.1 OS handles connected standby. Yes, the SP3 has this, a MAJOR feature for x86 devices but I've seen almost no review mentioning this. Is it only the stock MS apps that can receive notifications in standby? Do apps have to be updated to support this feature? Haven't seen any review testing this.

At least I can still rely on the reviews from surfaceproartist.com to test the difference between the old Wacom and the new N-Trig pens. And Penny Arcade's review mentions the real world effect of the shift to the 3:2 aspect ratio and the irritation caused by the windows button shifting to its current location on the SP3 that affects right handers while drawing or writing in that mode.

personally. i use my pro2 more as an ultrabook than a tablet.
only uses it as a tablet when i'm on my bed surfing and watching videos, or once in a while to detach it and show my colleague what i was working on.

Re

I also read a review where it died at about 4.5 hours. IMO, a portable device should aim for about 6 hours of battery life.

Unless Microsoft can release a patch to improve the SP3 battery life, they'd be better off calling it a home tablet.

I am rethinking my preorder decision.

Power Cover for SP2 works for SP3 as well according to MS. Sadly, Power Cover won't be coming into S' pore

Anyone know of a sticky on-screen virtual button that can send keyboard keys such as Function keys? I was hoping find something like that so that it would be easier to play some games which uses function keys.

You can pre-order now at MS website here. No need to wait.

It's still a preorder, which means you still have to wait for the actual product. Not going to pay money for something I didn't even get a chance to feel or see more reviews of.
