i think microsoft really do a poor job in preparing their devices as demo units. All the surface pro 3 i tried lack basic stuff like pictures, videos or top apps/programs to showcase the capability. some places don't even have it connected to wifi so most of the time is just trying the pen, the weight or the keyboard

it seems easy based on the video tutorials...can't guarantee though :D

screen protectors are tough to paste, but this one i believe should be ok cause u dun need to be overly concerned about seeing air bubbles; whereas for screen protectors you have to be.

i've pasted a skin on my ipod nano before and it was pretty alright:D

Wouldn't a skin interfere with heat dissipation? Considering the sp3 already has heat issues out of the box is it advisable to stick a non heat conducting material onto the magnesium surface.

folks, are u aware there's this laptop skin shop in SLS? i think is 4th level... in the back alley near the stairs. he charged me $50 when i did my (back) skin for sp2... a bit pricey but he could get it done in about two hours (depending on how busy he is) and he can customise base on your wants (e.g. don't cover the Surface logo at the back).

actually i'm not sure if i want to go back to him when i get my sp3... but just mentioning as an alternative.

I'm consider getting a monitor for my new surface pro 3. It's either Dell UP2414Q a 4k display, U2413 Brilliant color , or UP2414H slim design

But big time noob in screen resolution, from what i understand ...pro 3 resolution runs at 2160 x 1440 , and i'm considering Dell UP2414 which is a 4k display that runs at Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 .

Dell UltraSharp 24 Ultra HD Monitor - UP2414Q

I assume that surface pro 3 is not capable to run at 3840 X 2160, even if it's doable, i guess all the icon and text screen will be so many thats is barely readable , right ?

Would getting Dell U2413 be a better option since it run max at 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz ? But at the same time i'm worry about getting blurry or not sharp enough.

Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor (Dell UltraSharp U2413 24

Lastly, U2314 Color Support:
Color Depth: 1.074 billion colors
Color Gamut (typical): Adobe RGB 99%, sRGB 100% and 120% (CIE 1976)4

Is it kind of a overkill using U2314 with 1.074 Billion Colors....

Yes, i'm hobbyist using Fuji X-T1 Camera 16.3 megapixel. If my camera can't display that much color different...i'm considering getting Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor – U2414H which is more slim and cheaper.

Dell UltraSharp 24" Monitor

Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

The SP3 will be able to drive a single 4K monitor through its mDP port. Can't drive two of them though.

Imo, 24" for a 4K monitor is too small, but that's personal preference. The difference between the 2413 and 2313 is huge though, i have a 2413 at home and i love the 16:10 ratio :).

Why would you put an ugly skin over a beautifully designed product.

because i don't want my beautifully designed product to have scratch marks . to each his own though.

Just don't forget to get a version 1.2 miniDP to DP cable. 4K should work wonders if you have the budget but since it's a first generation monitor, I would wait for newer models to come out first. Asus and Samsung should have something interesting coming up.

I used to have the same belief but after a while, i realised that i can't fully enjoy the looks of a "covered" well-designed product. Much like iphone these days. The best look is still the original. Sure it protects the design but after 2-3 years, you'll be looking to upgrade anyway and the selling price would not differ by a lot. Just my 2 cents.

Doesn't matter which resolution you get, both won't look blurry lar... the graphics chip will automatically scale your image to 1080p if that's what you are sending out to.

In any case, whatever you are using as a camera, are you going to need that critical sharpness when editing your photos? If yes, then the extra resolution will help... 16.3 MP means that your photos are about 4000+ x 3000+ pixels which is larger than the UHD resolution but it also means that you can't really zoom before the picture pixilates... that is whatever displays on your Photoshop interface is basically close to 100%... and if the resolution is so high on a small monitor (24 inch) then it will be pretty frustrating to edit such a picture and as you cannot zoom in anymore... you will need to shoot 24MP and larger to benefit from UHD actually.

Does this mean a 4k display is overkill for surface pro 3 , since the default output will still only be 1080p....

thanks for the reply...and what would you buy ?
