Can I check with you guys: Does your kickstand become slightly wobbly when you open it towards larger angles? When my kickstand goes past the 90 degrees mark it wobbles.

Eh I actually called Microsoft and they told me that the inability to charge a phone together with SP3 using the charger brick is a fault, and they will send me a new one for free!

I also told them that my SP3 can only stream YouTube videos for about 3.5-4 hours before going flat, even from factory settings with all drivers updated. They told me there's a common issue with the battery with certain batches and I might be suffering from it, and guess what... They're going to send a new one to me for free!

Holy **** damn good customer service there. They didn't even ask me anything more than a few simple diagnostic questions.

Damn impressed man.

In addition to chengsun's suggestion, you can also try Funan Harvey Norman I just got mine last Saturday with a free type cover (not all Harvey Norman stores have this promotion, you have to call first).

Not just the battery! They're going to replace the whole SP3! At first I was surprised as well so I confirmed again and she said yes she's going to send a courier to pass me a new SP3. I just have to give him my current one :O it's a 1-1 exchange!

I didn't even have to try extremely hard to convince them like other service centres. I didn't even have to go down and show them the problem because it's all through the phone!

I went to read around and yes indeed it's the norm for Microsoft service. They earned a new loyal customer already hahaha

edit: I also mentioned that my 3DMark score is 500 for the i5 256GB version on a clean factory reset with fully updated drivers, while most others online got 1k+. I said there's some overheating issues causing serious throttling and I'm not sure if it's normal for Singapore weather.

Yep~ For light tasks yes it performs up to my expectations, but my ASUS T100 powered by an Atom processor can do just as well.

When I try to do anything even slightly heavier (like watching videos or playing simple games) the whole thing becomes hot and the fan kicks in to 100% and the CPU gets throttled to slower than i3 speeds. I even charted using XTU to see what's going on, and indeed the temperatures can go as high as 70 to 90 degrees.

When it comes to actual performance, I am unable to even get half the framerate for the games featured in this channel:

I know that the Surface is not a gaming machine, but I'm not expecting mine to perform any worse than what others have right?

Here's an example. His i3 version can run Dark Souls 2 at more than 30fps on average but my i5 runs at 15-20fps at best using the same settings as him:

Also, many online reviews show that they can actually use their tablets for more than 9 hours. Someone even played a looping video for 7 hours at max brightness. Mine lasts about 3.5 hours playing videos on factory with newest drivers, which certainly doesn't make sense.

I'm really happy with this device but there are some things that just doesn't feel right. When I called I only wanted to get a new charger because I read that some others can charge their phones as well, but I took the opportunity to also inquire about the issues I'm having. I wanted to see if what I'm experiencing is normal, but I didn't expect them to offer me an exchange just like that! quite surprised honestly

The fan only didn't kick in (and the CPU didn't get throttled) when moved my i5 in front of a portable aircon, which is why I asked the CSO if what I'm experiencing is normal for Singapore weather.

Hi, can you share after you have the new unit whether is still the same issue or is to better ? and how long you have the first unit and make the complain ? I have the same issue as you as something the unit cannot last 3 hours and get hot easily, thanks

Yep I'll test on Wednesday when it comes and post again I got it for less than a week actually, but I've read that people exchanged 4-5 times before even past 1 week in the US.

The student price is only applicable for the Microsoft Store but you will have to purchase the Type Cover separately. If you add the prices up they work out to be roughly the same plus minus 30 bucks when compared to the Harvey Norman promo with free Type Cover (but as Audris mentioned in the previous page, the remaining colors for the Type Cover are limited)
