Nope, not bec of cost. Both the AC Ryan and the Aztech can be bgt for less than $200 which is not much more than a good MIC android box.

For me, the MIC brands are more advanced than the brands u mentioned in terms of both hardware and software and the pace of development is much faster. From the Rikomagic MK802 to the MK II and then the MK III versions; then to the UG802, MK808, Minix Neo G4, X5 etc - the improvements keep on coming.

In contrast, while AC Ryan makes decent media players, their Android attempt (i.e. Veolo) has been mediocre. Can u believe that it is still running Gingerbread!! And there will prob never be an update to ICS because of AC Ryan Europe's problems.

As for Aztech, I have always been disappointed in their products in the past - from routers to wifi plug-ins to phones.

Unlike tablets, there are relatively few big branded names doing android boxes only niche companies like AC Ryan, Astone, Aztech etc.

Companies like Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Asus, Acer are all active in tablets but don't seem to be interested in android boxes so the Chinese companies have sensed the demand and grabbed the lead - at least for now

If stability is what you desire, you should avoid all the dongles & go for the boxes. Overheating is not uncommon for dongles. Many dongles also has problem with USB port not supplying enough currents to the attached devices. Boxes are more expensive but spare you such problems.

Anybody knows between Minix Neo G4, iMito and MK808, which is a better dongle styled android media player ?

I know G4 comes with ICS and MK808 with JB. iMito has bluetooth function. I'm keen to know which is a more stable and consistent device with active support from the community.

Precisely, look at AR's 7" "branded" tablet and you will know that besides the name, it's worse off than other well known MIC brands for its price and specs.

I have a synology NAS too and looking for a decent media box player that can stream 1080p mkv movies from it.

May I know what kinds of movies files are you streaming from your NAS? Also which internet movies site are you streaming from?

Most of my movies are in rmvb or mkv format.
ISP - Singtel.
Bought it locally with iCloudTV app given and now using it most of the time instead of other app as most of the movies can be found in iCloundTV. Thanks.

Actually, i find that the main prob with dongle-styled sticks is not over-heating or lack of power (over-heating not an issue with my MK802 II and power issue overcome by using 1A/2A adaptor) but rather the lack of expansion ports. My 802 II comes with 1 full-sized USB (used for USB ethernet which i prefer over wifi) & 2 micro-USB (1 used for power and 1 used for wireless keyboard/mouse). Hence, if i want to connect an external hdd, i need to unplug the usb ethernet first.

It can also look untidy with all the cables running up to the stick which is dangling from the tv hdmi port.

That's why i just bought an android-box which comes with 4 usb ports, built-in ethernet port and infrared (for remote). It also has rca connection for older analog tvs as well as digital audio output.

The stick-type is great for portability and to bring along on travels but for home use, the box-type is better.

I went down with my ang moh friend today, and he bought a standalone g4 @ $140 only. no cloud iptv from amconics. the tall china guy say cybermind only got few demo set, so buy from them also cannot get much warranty and exchange. but if buy from amconics, can get 1-to-1 exchange anytime with T&Cs of course haha. dunno true or not, wait my set spoil first den can prove his claim.

What app do you guys use for streaming? I used qvod but it's damn jerky. Wanna have smooth playback. Is full hd playback possible?

I used qvod on rikomagic 802 iii and himedia q5 (Android box). Both gave me crappy jerky playback. Btw, pptv unable to get hk drama already?

But then after conversion roughly is around $115-$120, have to wait for my credit card bill to reach then will know the exact price paypal charge me. If i had known local company selling at $140 according to recent post, i would have just bought from there.

Warranty + exchange > $20. Past experience i had was to ship my product back to seller, then wait around 3-4 weeks before i get a new piece. And not sure if it's new piece or repaired one ( minor scratches on surface ).

Anyone using their cloud streaming apk? Care to share experience? I heard it can be used on multiple platforms, provided you got their registration number or something like that.

The mess of a bunch of.wires.sticking out from the tv side hdmi port. The lack of ethernet port, the lack of usb ports are all reasons i ditched the stick and go for the box.

The idea of mini pc stick being portable is moot also. Are you going to lug.a monitor or tv with you when traveling, so that you can use the mini pc stick? Obviouly not. For portability, we already have laptop, tablet, smartphones...probably dont need another pc stick that need a tv screen to work with...


My guess is, the tv boxes today are actually the prototype of our android pc in future, they will eventually evolved to one with more features added. The pc sticks, probably remained a cool toy but mass adoption is less likely.

actually, on the portability part, i don't mean using it for a picnic but more of during travel when you stay in a hotel and can use the stick either as a media playback device to watch movies stored on the msd card or even connect to the in-room wifi for web-surfing, skype etc.

the big advantage of this over using, say an android phone, is that you can use a usb ethernet dongle to connect to the in-room ethernet socket if there is no wifi

that's why i am still holding on to my MK II even after i have bgt my android box

Their so-called exclusive cloud iptv apk is kinda like what you see in those china media player's interface. The main menu have all the different pictures of the movies / series, and there's a page showing all the latest updated titles (some what similar to tom365.com or 51f3.cn main page).

Same thing, you can choose different category and also got a search function. Buffering wise, i'm using starhub fibre, so its very smooth even at night / peak hours.

Quality, you can choose the different sizes available for each title : 500mb / 1G / 1.5G. My bro is using singtel fibre, and works smoothly too. Slight buffering which can be solved with the PAUSE /PLAY button haha.

It comes pre-installed together with registration code @ $199, sitex price.



Cons.
Some bugs here and there. Cannot update to latest version as it's even more buggy. Sometimes a message " iptv player has failed" appears, and you'll have to restart the program again. That's why have to press NO everytime you open the cloud iptv program as it'll prompt you for update.

There's only 2.4gb of space for streaming, and you'll have to clear the data with their xdroid cleaner program.

Lastly, this application is a paid app, meaning without their registration code, you can only watch your titles for 10mins each session and it'll auto close. Cost around $69 to buy this application from amconics though. That's why i bought another player $140 for my bro, then we share the application.
