So mobile broadband users get less priority/lowered QoS.
Can't fault them, iPhone users pay much more, but this would be bad for their image if this is indeed what they're doing behind the scenes.

Then again, to get 1.7Mbps for a 2Mbps plan is already quite good.

starhub used to be good @ woodlands.
so i upgraded my 2mbps line to 7.2mbps.
initially still ok, getting 4mbps download.
lately only 500kbps only.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought it was my PC or modem problem. So the problem lies with Starfug. I already experienced this drop in speed from 4mbps to 400kbps since Sep 10. Worse, my upload is capped at 70kbps. Finally, cannot "loon" liao and called them up yesterday morning to bombard them. Give them a piece of my mind.

Same location as you.

Gonna terminate my current 7.2mbps plan once the contract is over and downgrade to 2mbps plan. Give up already. Starfug can still claim everything is fine, and everyone can surf normally. I even get timeouts when pinging to www.starhub.com once out of 3 times.

I GPGT, but too frustrated and angry now to post pics. I also sent these pics to Starfug as requested by their tech support peons. BTW, those idiot peons asked me to screen capture as BMP files. Since they capped my upload to 70kbps, you can imagine how long I take to send 2x 12MB BMP files to them. In the end, I re-saved the screen captures as JPG and send them to Starfug. Enough of wasting my time with Starfug. :s27:

Which APN to use for SingTel BBoM E5830 Mifi device connection?

Hi fellows. I tried searching the SingTel BBoM site but there's no technical online self-help guide there (lotsa plans, promotions though). I'm confused as to which APN configuration to use:

APN: internet
username: 65IDEAS
password: ideas

OR

APN: e-ideas
username: 65ideas
password: 65ideas

:s11:

I'm subscribed to a 2mbps SingTel BBoM pure data plan (not those iPhone "iFlexi" voice+data plans). I tried using both sets of APN configs on my E5830 and both appear to be working. May I know the difference between the 2 sets of configs, i.e. which should I use for my data plan subscription. Mostly importantly, I dun wanna get charged penalty charges for surfing via an "incorrect" APN setting.

Thanx.

Both APN you can use
One gives public IP, the other private range

Well, this is mobile broadband after all. So far, the rule of thumb remains max 2Mbps, and just try to get the best promotion you can get. M1 seems to be the most improved in terms of service, but gotta live with using their lousy transparent proxy.
Those who had been using mobile broadband as a low cost short-term-contract stop-gap before fibre is installed in their building should switch over to fibre, unless they are really using it as a mobile service.

May I know the usefulness of one versus the other? Private IP is more secure right? On the toher hand, I need public IP if I wanna let other computers acccess my terminal over the Internet right?

Home broadband speeds are not likely to vary too much. It really depends on what your area's population is predominantly using. As long as it's not an old estate, ADSL is likely to give you more consistent speeds. While with cable... the connection itself is really almost perpetual. I've not had an IP change for easily more than a year. Depends on usage, and unfortunately, you may need to trial and error. If you can afford it, sign on with one of the ISPs but not take their offer - pay regular non-discounted prices and skip on the freebies first. After one or two months, if all is good, then sign a contract. You may have to pay more overall for that first few months (considering equipment purchase and setup fees if any) but you keep the ball in your court.

i just discovered this issue with Starhub mobile broadband access and i'm totally shocked.

i'm on the smartsurf program and i always thought the speed issues was due to my phone (HD2), after i switch t Desire HD, realise that my phone surfing speeds are much much slower as compared to my colleague on the same phone. Colleague is on Singtel network.

I downloaded speedtest app from andriod market and have been testing the speed from Bedok to Bukit Panjang .. i did not even hit 1 MBPS ..

Call up Starhub to ask what kind of speeds i should be expecting, they told me 7.2 MPS .. faint .. then they blame the phone, ask me to hard reset my phone ..

going to starhub tomorrow to bang table .. and break contract to jump to starhub.

i'm really shocked, isn;t there a minimum performance clause in the contract for smartsurf .. if not, then all of us Starhub mobile users are really carrotheads .. paying for 7.2 MPS a month while not even getting 1 mps ..

Currrently using SH 7.2mb mobile broadband for almost 2 years, will terminate once contract end. Quite disappointed with the speed, sometimes not even can login msn. Tonight most worst, get DL = 0.78 and UL = 0.36. So now plan to switch to M1 or ST, which 1 is better at Marsiling area? Heard M1 is not bad...

I am also using the 7.2Mbps mobile broadband around North area, mostly woodlands and cck. and I am only getting average 0.5Mbps DL and 0.4Mbps UL for the past few weeks, previously I was still able to hit average 4Mbps DL.

Seems like starhub is not bothered about ensuring bandwidth for its subscribers. Instead of trying to solve this problem by checking their infrastructure, they are letting me exit my contract without penalty, telling me that they can't do anything about it.

Right now I believe there are complains for all telcos, none of the telcos seems to be able to provide consistant bandwith throught the whole of singapore.

Right now I feel that the regulatory boards are not the pushing the ISPs to provide a acceptable minimum level of service to their customers in terms of advertised UL and DL bandwidth versus actual UL and DL bandwidth.

If only ISPs are able to sell their service in terms of minimum guaranteed bandwidth instead of maximum achieveable bandwidth....

At the moment, we can't do much about it, either don't use mobile broadband or subscribed to a lower speed to minimize overpaying the ISPs.

Actually, they really cant do anything, unless they install more 3G satelite...
