Hihi,

Anyone has contact of Richard?

I managed to speak to him 2.5 weeks ago abt fixing my Dell monitor, but now his phone contact and email is no longer working leh.

Thank you.

Sent in my Dell U3011 for repair today. Quick recovery within 1 hour and managed to revive my monitor at a very reasonable price.

Thumbs up to fellow HWZer SNAG for sharing :D

i got a small problem with my old Dell U2711 monitor.

THe screen is working great. Just that when the monitor "wake up" from system boot it will show half red and half blue color screen. Just on and off the power bottom it will work fine.

Then. when the system go sleep or wake up again. sometime it will have the half or full one color screen. on off few time even unplug power also no use. got to try many time then the screen will work normal.

Is it a simple cheap fix?

Was at Richard's office this am, he was out of the country for the last 2 weeks hence wasnt able to reach him.

He managed to fix my Dell U2313HM within 30 mins, replaced the IC unit and the monitor is working great again (previously couldnt power up).

Repair cost is definitely more resonable than those "repair" shops quoted at sim lim.

Richard is probably our last master monitor technician in SG, and he has a great affable personality too.

He still can be reach @ 9858 4833.

My Samsung S32D850T died last week with a loud pop sound with the breaker tripping for the whole house. Luckily found this thread and sent in my monitor to Richard for repair. Very nice and friendly service. He truly is knowledgeable with monitor and PSU repairs. Thanks SNAG for sharing uncle's contact as well!

Just to update, Richard is still in operation during this Circuit Breaker period. Had brought my faulty Dell U2417H to him for diagnosis and he was able to confirm quickly that the panel was faulty. Would strongly recommend him if you need servicing for your monitors.

I had a similar problem on my Samsung SyncMaster 931bw, Only the power button light flash, I had to keep on try to turn it off and on for 15mins before the display will come on.

After reading about problem capacitors being the cause of such failures, I opened up the monitor and examined the power supply board. Two capacitors had bulging tops, so I went to Sim Lim Tower, bought soldering tools and two 1000uf capacitors and replaced them. My monitor is now fixed. Cost 80 cents for the capacitors.

Good job and save lots of money by DIY.

Well done & Good job!.. :)

However, i am just concerned..

Just to share, that i did the same for my first few monitor repairs (i.e replaced ONLY the bloated caps).. But upon reading & communicating with other repair hobbyist, it is advisable to replaced ALL of them on the Power board EXCEPT the BIG FAT guy sitting in the middle.. Also the replacement have to be good quality Low ESR, High ripple caps (e.g Panasonic series FM, FC,etc) usually not found in Sim Lim. If not, (touch wood) the problem will come back a few/many months later..

Hope it does not happen to you la.. anyway, congrats for the repair..

For switching regulator, always use low ESR type. Sim Lim do have it. Else get it from Taobao or ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-3-50V-Sa...r-470-3300uF-TS/162649088688?var=461649753978

Always get a higher voltage type if size can fit onto the board eg original one is 25V, get a 35V type for safe.

Nice. How much did he charge for the diagnostic?

This morning went to Richard's workshop to repair my 8 year old 23 inch LG monitor which can only display video image about 5 minutes after booting up the pc. The cost was very reasonable and took about half an hour. Happy and satisfied overall.

My Dell U2410 monitor screen just suddenly blank out while working from home. I switch off the main power, let my monitor rest for 10 mins and switch on again, but there is no power light indication, unable to start.

Is it wise to send my monitor to repair? Or I should buy a new replacement monitor to continue to work from home? The Dell U2410 monitor is a legend with many different display ports available, I also can't bear to throw it away.

From your description, my guess is that it could be the power adapter / PCB failure. Did you experience screen turning off for few seconds and then back on again?

If you did, then most probably is power related failure.

I wonder if the monitor display dark red tint throughout when you switch it on, is it still repairable?
My QNIX QX2710 served me well for like 3 years till recently.

Dell U3011 faulty, should I repair? Or sell to others? It costs $100 to get it fixed.

Dead Samsung S32D850T

Hello Richard and all.

Would love any help I could get from you guys here in finding out the problem with my monitor or if there's anything that I'm doing wrong. Details as follows.

Issue: Dead Samsung Monitor
Model: S32D850T
Lifetime: Bought at IT fair, 4-5 years ago.
PowerBoard Model: BN44-00750A
Ceramic Fuse is blown: 6.3A 250V (Slow Blow)
Green Thermistor cracked

Problem:
Recently my Samsung monitor died on me while I was using it. During usage, the screen suddenly blacked out and could smell a burnt smell, no visible smoke.

Diagnose 1:
Tried turning it on again and there was no white standby LED indicator. Changed powerpoint and still dead.

I opened the back panel. Did a visual inspection of the power board where the burnt smell was coming from. Could not see any visible burn marks, all capacitors are looking good, no bulge and no visible leakage. But I noticed that the ceramic fuse is blown.

Bought some new fuses with the exact same ratings.

Diagnose 2:
I replaced the fuse of the power board and plugged in the power. Immediately when I turned on the power, there was a 'pop' sound from the power board and smelt the same burnt smell.

Checked the power board again and the fuse was blown yet again. Visual inspection now shows one of the green thermistors near the power input cracked.

Would love any help from you guys to know what's wrong with my power board. Thank you all!
