From Tokyo station, take the JR Chuo line to Mitaka station and transfer to the Kaiji ltd. express train to Otsuki. It is also possible to take the Kaiji ltd. express directly from Shinjuku station. At Otsuki, transfer to the Fujikyu line. This is a privately held railway and the JR Pass is can’t be used on this line. The fare from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko is ¥ 1,440 by limited express or ¥ 1,140 by local service.

Found some info from website... Are those details above ok to follow? Thanks

Same shown from hyperdia..

I rented a car and drove all around Lake Kawaguchi and surrounding areas last autumn. Very beautiful. I think having a car is a must. Gives you the flexibility to move around freely. Found some really great parks along the lake that can only be accessed by car

6am sunrise, the lake still got fog lifting out of it!

I searched and get to know that there's direct express bus from shinjuku to Kawaguchiko JR station... And there's this retro bus going to lake kawaguchi... Anyone took bus instead of train before? Which is better?

I will be taking bus. Cheaper and seems faster. Less hassle too as no need to transfer here and there.

Cant help you with the Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko Station portion since i went from Kyoto to Mishima, hop on the the bus to Kawaguchiko Station before getting onto the retro bus to my B&B at Lake Kawaguchiko(Weekend Shuffle Lakeside Inn)..

Definitely bus would be more straightforward like someone mention without transfer..

Yup, i took the bus frm shinjuku station to kawaguchiko. 1750¥, 1h45mins. No transfer needed and fuss-free. Though there's many stops along the way, there's a monitor that informs u the next stop in English. And bus only stops if someone press the alighting bell.

Now the bus terminal is a super big and new building at south exit of shinjuku station. Easy to reach.

Ticketing ? Buy from the bus terminal or online is better?

You need to change train at Otsuki 大月 station to Fujikyu express (private rail company where JR pass is not valid). Price from Otsuki - Kawaguchiko is 1450¥ if I didn't remember wrongly. The train interior is super cute with either Thomas-themed train or Fujisan-cartoon. However, if u don't hv jr pass, then I recommend that u take the direct bus frm Shinjuku station instead (1750¥, 1h45mins, 1 bus every hr).

Just buy on the spot at the counter. Unless it's super peak period, it's always available. I bought mine on the spot and didn't need to prebook.

Anyway I recommend this postcard photo location near kawaguchiko at Chureito Temple. Very pretty if you can catch pagoda, sakura and Mt Fuji together on a clear day. I only managed the 1st and 3rd coz sakura aint open yet.

I reserved mine online already. Collection and payment will be at the counter. If you are going on weekends, better reserve.

Will be there for 2 nights and I will return via Odawara by train.

Anyone tried any in the website list?

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6902.html

I tried fujiyama onsen, I quite like it. Got many facilities in its 4 storey building, got large modern baths (no view of mt fuji though), got restaurant inside, easy access with Kawaguchiko red-line bus. There's even a resting lounge on 4th floor where u can rest on a comfy chair to a view of mt fuji and sleep. No time limit of how long u can stay inside, as long as u leave by the end of their operating hours. Many ppl treat the fujiyama onsen like jimjilbang in korea. Stay inside the entire day. 1250 ¥ for adult.

Any accommodation for 1 night to recommend at Lake Kawaguchiko. Wouldn't want to miss the morning sunrise
