This was taken a week earlier on 18 April, right in front of h0neystars' ryokan :D

And if you were there on 30 April, you will get a better view than this :)

where were you standing and what time was this photo taken?

wondering what is the best timing without fog..
I was walking around alone the Kawaguchiko lake area. All the way to the end there are some people fishing, further right in. I saw this weird looking place which seems to be some religion ground but locked up from public, just right next to this place, pretty much the deadend already. I think it was around 1pm, then I notice clouds are moving le, so just sat down waited around 30mins. :p
Piece of advice from my this trip to avoid tourist crowed, be there before 12noon, so you can still enjoy slowly walk and take photos without people blocking you or noisy tourists.

wowwww. I really need to change my itinerary a little to camp for mt fuji.

Only staying at that ryokan for 1N and planning to set off early to visit the pink moss area. Guess I should visit the pink moss area in the afternoon instead and camp for mt fuji good view the whole morning =p

Assuming weather is ok, you are correct to plan the visit to the Shibasakura (pink moss) festival in the afternoon.

The location of the pink moss area is just south of Lake Motosu with Fuji to the east. Which means that if you visit in the morning, your photos of Fuji will likely suffer from back light with the sun behind it.

By visiting in the afternoon, you will get good light from the western sun shining on Fuji (and the pink moss in front of it) as shown in my earlier second photo. But try not to be there too late (it's a long drive from Kawaguchiko) as the foothills to the west will cast shadows on the flowers if the sun has set too low!

The pink moss and phlox will likely be in full bloom when you are there so your photos should be even nicer than those I took when I was there, weather permitting.

And if you have your own transport, that area is pretty near to the famous Lake Motosu view of Fuji in the 1000 yen note:

Thanks for your suggestions! Will try to schedule afternoon for Shibasakura. Sadly, I'm not having my own transport this time so Lake Motosu would be a miss for me. It looks really beautiful though..

We will be using public transport + on weekends which is not exactly the ideal situation. There's a bus which I have to catch and the frequency is 3 times a day (7am, 11am and 5pm). If we can't catch the 11am bus for whatever reason, gonna have to cab to the train station. *fingers crossed*

Assuming you are talking about leaving from Komaya Ryokan, there are Red Line buses every 10 min (~20-25 min travel time) to Kawaguchiko station.

Then from Kawaguchiko station, there are shuttle buses departing every 40 min (~30 min travel time) to the festival ground. The shuttle bus costs 2000yen return and includes entrance to the festival. They can be bought at the counter in a small hut set up at the Kawaguchiko station carpark.

What a good day you had.
My trip here on 2 Sat ago saw Mt Fuji kept on hiding in cloud partially at middays mostly despite cloudless on the train .
Could not stay long as I had to rush off to Aomori that afternoon.

Thanks for the directions from Komaya Ryokan but the infrequent bus timings I was referring to was my bus from Hakone area to Gotemba. It only has 3-4 timings on weekends.

Can't wait for my trip! Mt Fuji :):):)
