Just to clear stuff up. The asus eee 900mhz celeron may well be faster then the atom 1.6ghz.

SuperPi benchmark. http://laptoping.com/intel-atom-benchmark.html

But the upside is atom has a TDP between 0.6W to 2.5W which means lower power usage. But dont mistake yourself and think its faster.

This must be "stickied".

For the last time, the MSI Wind is using Diamondville, not Silverthorne. All benchmarks of the Atom that you can find out on the Internet now are of the Silverthorne.

Crimson__Tide has kindly provided some pictures in the other thread, and I've placed them into the first post of this thread.

Now you can see that the mic is at the top right corner of the LCD screen. Looks like a better placement than that of the Eee PC, where it was located below the touchpad.

That's what everyone wants to know! :)

Due to Intel's NDA you won't be able to find much information on Diamondville anywhere until it's officially launched by Intel in June.

So far, this is all I can find:
Diamondville is confirmed to be the first Intel processor to support simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) since the Pentium 4. While the entire Silverthorne architecture supports SMT, only Diamondville is confirmed as SMT-enabled.

By the way, Diamondville is a Silverthorne derivative, and both fall under the Intel Atom brand. You can read the Wikipedia entry for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silverthorne_(CPU)

Silverthorne: Optimised for low-power, then low-cost.
Diamondville: Optimised for low-cost, then low-power.
This is why Diamondville has a higher TDP than Silverthorne (4W vs 0.6W-2.5W)

Some other technical information if it means anything to you - cos it doesn't mean anything to me: The 1.6Ghz Diamondville processors will be paired with Intel's 945GSE northbridge and ICH7M southbridge.

Edit: This might mean the MSI Wind is using GMA950 DX9 integrated graphics and able to support up to DDR2-800 RAM (2GB limit).

haha doesn't mean much to me either, but maybe that's because I don't have much interest for the in depth operation of a computer processor.

What everybody should care about is that whatever MSI chooses for the Wind's processor being able to at least match the Celeron M 900mhz's performance while maintaining a balance with cost and power consumption.

Here's some information on the Shelton '08 platform, which is what MSI Wind is going to be based on:

The “Shelton’08″ features the Intel “Diamondville” single core processor at 1.6GHz, a 533MHz front-side bus, the 945GSE chipset with integrated DirectX 9 graphics chip, single channel DDR2 memory support, an 802.11g Wi-Fi module, and a USB/PATA solid state drive. The platform is claimed to have low power consumption, enabling battery life of between 3-4 hours.

One more month? Arriving end May or early June.

If you subscribe to mobile broadband you will still need to carry the 3G modem around... of course if your laptop has integrated HSDPA then you won't need the modem since it's already built into the laptop.
