This is what I do for my cams. If need tone view from external, I use VPN.

On the camera, I used a static IP, but gateway I put some rubbish non existence IP address. Never put your router's ip. This will ensure no Internet traffic is possible, but still accessible over the LAN.

There is such thing called the reverse engineer.

The moment you hook to your router with internet connectivity you are exposed.

Packets will timeout and drop when it hits an non-existent gateway. Of course to make sure it does not leak out from the other interface assuming using LAN), you need to disable the wireless interface or do the same thing on the gateway settings.

Hi all,

I would like to share my traumatic experience with this Carousell seller (Carousell Username: installationcctv). Seller's name is Dylan and his mobile number is 82772920. He sells V380 brand of CCTV cameras.

Not only did Dylan sell defective cameras to me and went MIA during the 1 year warranty period, he is also suspected of invasion of privacy.

Dylan told me not to set any password as many of his customers would forget their passwords and it would be a huge hassle to reset these. I naively trusted him and only discovered he was spying on my husband and I in our master bedroom when the camera lens would move by itself to focus on our bed in the middle of the night.

I have already made a police report today, Report No: E/20170705/2025
This case is currently under investigation and the investigating officer in charge of this case is urging other buyers who have experienced unscrupulous business practice and/or invasion of privacy issues in relation to Dylan to contact him (Song Jian Li: 63918464).

Fellow members, pls beware of this seller, Dylan.

No offense but if this is already a police case, I would refrain from making accusations prior to it being completed.

Just so you know, the moment you did not put any password, ANYONE can be watching your CCTV and not necessarily Dylan.
All I see from your only 16 posts is you continuously posting the same thing over many different threads.

And like another post that you responded with the intention to accuse the poster of being 'Dylan' himself, I would suggest leaving it up to the police to get him.

And in case you start abusing other people again like me for not taking your side, note that tech products goes both ways. Some people will get a faulty product and as you will know, those are the people that will make the most noise. Just because you have a bad experience, doesn't mean others will have one too. So if they say that they had no issues with Dylan's CCTV installation service, don't accuse them of being one of his close friends and so on so forth.

Note, that if the investigation comes out fine and he is not guilty of anything, note that you may have just ruined someone's livelihood and worst, his image that even if he wants to find another job, they might not do so because you have been spreading rumors about him without PROOF that he is actually the one who was spying on you in the bedroom.

And by reading the other thread where you did not divulge that you had a camera set up in the toilet is extremely disturbing even if you said it was because of a 'maid abuse'. Remember, this is a minor that you are recording and potentially exposing to the world with your irresponsibility to put a password over your CCTV network.

If you bother to read this thread, you will know that there are many websites that leaks out these unprotected CCTV cameras for the world to see.

Also note that if the netweight guy is truly 'Dylan' or his supporter, just provide the info to the police. You are not the one who decides who's guilty or not. A simple police request for the information to the account of netweight will show whether they are linked. Dylan seems to have 2 accounts on Carousell. The other is for a slimming service located at Joo Chiat. And if Netweight is really able to contact Dylan with ease while you don't the police may ask netweight to assist with the investigation. So like I said, let the police do their work.

Even I have found out Dylan's surname by my own research. But that is how I also found out your hiding of unscrupulous and unlawful putting of a camera in the toilet.

As quoted in a Straits Times article,
"CCTVs should not be installed in areas that will compromise the FDWs' (foreign domestic workers') privacy, for example, where they sleep, change their clothes or the bathroom area," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). "All employers must respect the privacy of their employees, including foreign domestic workers who work and reside in their employers' homes."

You have clearly violated this law under Outrage of Modesty and should also be reported to the police. :vijayadmin:

For anyone else interested in the post by netweight that reveals this incriminating offense by Fantalicious, you may check it out from page 317 onwards here. http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-knowledge-base-33/wireless-ip-camera-thread-2966892-317.html

Lilasn,

Thought I would clarify on the bathroom CCTV issue. As mentioned in my previous post on the other thread, the bathroom in question is my kids' bathroom on the 2nd floor and nobody uses this bathroom except my kids (in fact, the whole 2nd floor belongs to them). My 2 maids also have their own bathroom on the 1st floor which is for their own usage only. Similarly, my husband and I have our own bathroom attached to our master bedroom on the 3rd floor. This was the arrangement in our previous house. We have since moved house in early May. Our Burmese maid who is being investigated for child abuse has since left and we now have a lovely replacement whom we think we can trust (Fingers crossed!) The CCTV camera which was in the kids' bathroom in the previous house has since been moved to their play area. Dylan is fully aware of all of these. However, if there should ever be any suspicion of any of our 2 maids abusing our kids in the bathroom, we will not hesitate to install another CCTV camera there.

There is thus no violation of the 'outrage of modesty' law. Do feel free to voice out any concern you may have to the police if you so wish and I will be more than happy to cooperate.

FYI, during the lodging of both police reports in respect of both Dylan and my Burmese maid abusing my daughter a few months ago, the locations of my CCTVs were disclosed to the police and there was nil concern whatsoever.

You are entitled to your opinion and are free to voice it, and so am I.

By the way, I am unaware that Dylan has 2 accounts on Carousell and definitely have been unable to find out his surname yet! (I'm rather unsophisticated when it comes to IT and high tech matters, if I can be totally honest.) If you, by any chance, are willing to share the results of your research with me, do feel free to PM me.

Obviously, this has been a very traumatic experience and trying time for me and my family. Fingers crossed that the police will be able to pin him down. But even if they are unable to, the least I hope to do is to warn other potential buyers about Dylan's unscrupulous business tactics and the danger of him invading the privacy of other buyers (who may similarly be as naive as me to listen to his advice of not setting passwords).

My bedroom Vstarcam CCTV been hack.
Example I had set my CCTV to look at 1 direction and I find that my CCTV will turn 160 degree and watching me and my wife sleeping around 11pm ~ 1am. I had change password a few time and i had found that the CCTV will turn to my direct where we sleep.

Should I report to Police? What can they do? They can't do anything right?
Should I buy other brand? But how trustful is other brand CCTV?

Wah scary. The whole idea of CCTV is to provide security. Yet the security itself was breached. I'm not very sure how CCTV works, but maybe investing in more prominent brands like Cisco or Canon would be safer??

here is the sad part, flaws has been pointed out by security experts and yet the makers(oem) of those IPcams dismiss and ignores the security issues and tells the customer that their product is safe. many of thoe IPCams are written very poorly in terms of security and the makers only care if it works or not. no effort is being put to ensure its security

while prominent brands are less likely to get hacked, but they do happen

however prominent brands takes security much more seriously and in most cases issue patch to fix security holes that are reported.

again, i want to make it clear that no brands are safe.

your best way to prevent anyone from hacking in is to put the ipcams on a seperate VLAN or route via a VPN. or even Local intranet only. ( no connections to the outside world)
