Alpha test? - my question is by how many and for how long.

It is only now that you are doing beta test with 200 users and mind you, its a 1G line and you only require 1 week to iron out issues on a newly setup network? - well done!

Looking at how MR is handling and things progressing since announcement of the 1G plan till now, my take is that it takes at least a good 6 to 9 months before the network is stable, then again when its stable, they would have hit into capacity issues. Would be lucky to connect to MR at almost the subscribed speed, what about peering and bandwidth out?

How would a beta of 200 users be indicative of stability for the rest of its much larger subscriber base? The answer is of course no.

What are they doing for the 1 week beta? let me guess its mostly for probability to hit 1Gbps doing downloading (eliminating large user base being a problem), access to sites (when MR just started out there are alot of sites the DNS is unable to reach) and perhaps some other obvious stuff that needs to be there and could be done in 1 week.

As for how they are handling things now from what I see its everything administrative rather than indicative of how the 1Gbps will perform.

Got a call in the afternoon telling me that they are very sorry for the delay and another call will be done next week to schedule the installation.

Was so happy when they finally called but turned out its just a call to apologise. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to it.

(FYI) Im in the beta programme so it may be earlier for me.

The alpha test has began long ago and it's stable such that we are able to constantly attain 800-1000Mbps with the right equipments.

Since the introduction of the plan, we have been working hard to ensure the DNS are working fine, any potential capacity cap issue has been resolved, peering and bandwidth checked and similar to existing or better.

There's absolutely no need to wait for 6-9months for that i can assure you as it's stable and robust enough. As mention the beta would include few hundred users ( 200 user + HWZ) that we can reach out personally and collect feedback to further improve the performance because the network is ever growing =).

We certainly avoid oversubscription. Thus, every few sign up would allow us to expand our current network capacity and ensure it's capable of accepting every more people into the system. Thus, the system is able to support maximum capacity and speed.

Thus, large user base would't be an problem but rather an advantage due to the potential cache generated that allow quicker loading of sites.

The 1 week is our feedback period to allow us to listen and understand how we can further shape the future of Singapore's network and further enhance the fastest network.

I feel sorry for the support staff. MyRepublic should have kept subscribers informed in the 1st place, instead of letting the early adopters waiting through the later part of February 2014. Also they should not have denied about the 2014 Feb call back.

Q&A By Lawrence

Hi all,

not sure if anyone remembers me, but am Lawrence Chan, I look after the product function of MyRepublic (i used to hang out here more before Nivlek and Johnnny joined the team)

Just want to give some heads up to customers see quite alot of posts (apologies I just woke up, we were trying to get the systems up over last night)

Just want to give my assurance that all customers will not have any issues getting this 49.99 or 59.99 price point. The limit on subscribers getting it is only for new subscribers. Current subscribers of course will not have any limits on this, be it you opt in today or 1 year from now, it will still be there for you.

1. Why is my installation date later than others.

We built a new network for this plan. Basically it would mean new modems (ONT) to be installed at your premise. And it also means having to arrange going to 15000 peoples homes

We have arranged customers based on their plan and how long they have been with us and stuck them to Q1 Q2 Q3 and Q4 and 2015 Q1 to migrate them.

What this also means, if you signed up 1 or 2 month ago on a 24 month contract, you should be migrated to the new line within 12 - 15 months.

This is conditional on you opting for it via our order system. (Our new plans have new pricing and also it also means you have to let us into your homes to install it so we have an order function)

2. The freaking order system is not working for me.

Sincere apologies, the order system is pretty new. And apparently still got some bugs. We will give updates on the bugs we fix but not to worry as we will try our best to ensure current customers do not get pushed back beyond assigned installation date. If migration goes well, its our hope to bring people forward instead.

3. There is a beta installations in February, I will announce more as we get closer to it. We dont intend to install till then as we need to collate the orders and finish up our alpha phase. (please don't send us requests for it yet, we will make announcements at the end of the month.)

4. Is this a new opco? Are there new ONTs?
yes. yeap

5. Why do i need to buy a new router?

If you are using N15U engenius 9850, unfortunately Lan to Wan throughput in real life testing, falls short of anywhere near 1gbps. The routers we have for selection can achieve approximately 900 - 960 mbps consistently.

6. Why do existing guys not get the $100 router voucher!

Actually you do, we didnt portray it very well on the order section. the router prices are post $100 reduction from their retail pricing.

7. Will you have schemes later on for customers to migrate even earlier than their assigned dates.

Yes. There might be a small admin fee (we actually can only do about 70 migrations a day with our field team) to increase the capacity we have to get some new installers down. There's a premium on that we intend to make it if existing customers are willing to share that cost, we can bring them in earlier. More news to come in February.

8. What happens to my current contract when I upgrade or recontract as a current customer

we tear it up and the new one starts from the day you get installed.

8. Whats your current priorities?

a. Making clearer communication to current customers via EDM and SMS and social media to reduce call load in the CS call center (its overloading)
b. Clean up order management tool to remove some bugs.
c. Create new program to facilitate earlier installations via a small premium.
d. Coordinating massive call back appointment arranging session in february for 1st of march onward installs
e. Beta program details.

I know i havent been much in the forums. Apologies on that (my inbox is full, so you might need to pmsg nivlek and johnnny if you got queries)

But figured i gave you guys some high level news on whats going on in MyRepublic.

I ordered on the 14th of Jan, was assured that i would be placed on a queue from march but right now i'm being told that i would only be getting the installation once my contract ends? I dont noe if this is how u guys are planning to screw ur existing customers up by placing priority over the newer customers.
Whats the point of me ordering way ahead in Jan and get a Q3 date when i can order in march and still get that same Q3 installation date. Might as well wait and see if got other offers right??
Attached are the images from chatlogs betw me and the staff. Highlighted in bold are the points that brought me to my decision.
Would really love to call in and rage on one of the staff but i doubt raging on them would bring about any solution to the issue on hand so hopefully the higher mgt can do something abt it.
Thanks.

Are china websites, based on dynamic IP in particular, tested?

Are you aware that there is a one-time charge of $58 service installation if you upgrade before your contract ends?

My contract ends in Aug. my understanding from this thread and on MR site is that I sign up early to lockin the 49.90 price. Installation to commence once my contract expire which the email confo stated 3Q.
MR will call me nearer to installation date once firm.
So I don't understand why existing customers are screwed? We signed a contract so if we want early, pay termination fees and follow up from there.

i signed up on 14th jan they gave me estimated installation Q3. I tried doing the sign up today. estimated time also Q3. Price also no change. So why sign up early?

Refer to point 8 highlighted in bold
"What happens to my current contract when I upgrade or recontract as a current customer

we tear it up and the new one starts from the day you get installed.
"

Based on my understanding, it shows that once u sign = sign for new line. Old contract teared up = same queue. I even went to check on fb with them with regards to this. Whats the point of tearing something up that doesnt exist right?

If you sign up in Jan, your schedule is in Q3... if you sign up in Q3, your schedule may be in 2015... it all depends on how many people actually signed up before you, and how fast can OpenNet provide your home fibre connection with the 1gbps service.

A contract is signed between 2 parties. Not only you sign and its a contract. There is also a statement saying when will the contract comes into power, which I believe is when the service is activated. oh wait... its inside your quote....

I think really miscommunication. I didn't have to submit any documentation when I signed up for upgrade.
And my estimated installation date is 2Q not 3Q as mentioned earlier.
And as end of 2Q is just a couple of months till my contract end, I think MR waived the installation charge.

Also the part about tearing up original contract and start as new doesn't really mean one is considered a new subscriber. Just start a fresh new 24 months.
