I am not a PRC media consumer - so it does not bother me much... Here's another report generated based on tracert to zw-n-v.youku.com
Here is my personal view on china website related problem. Experts correct me if I am wrong
Accessing china websites was never a fast thing to me, no matter which ISP (I have been with Singtel,Starhub,Qala,NTT and now MR) its always slower than ang moh sites.
For those streaming sites I believe they get their revenue from:
1. ads...every one of them has tons and tons of them
2. monthly subscription for better speed, better quality and also latest content
Based on this 2 points, why in the world would these streaming sites allocate bandwidth to people outside of china not paying the subscription OR not within the target of the products/games/services featured within the ads? I know I wouldn't. Anyone outside these 2 groups is just eating up my bandwidth slowing down the amount of ads I can display and chalking up complains on slow speed for subscribers paying money.
Also don't forget that their timezone is exactly the same as us, which means that when u wanna sit down and watch something, they are also doing the same.
Just look at what Viewquest is doing...they definitely have better routes than MR, in the biz for longer time and yet they have to employ the use of VPN...this just shows that its not just a matter of routes and peering to me..we must be "within China" to experience what we consider lag free streaming. Maybe MR can work out something with their teleport add on. Let users VPN to China.
I would like to point out that users are not expecting HD lag free streaming experience like youtube. Users are comparing the sames sites across different ISPs and wondering why they are not getting the same experience. When M1 4G LTE speeds are better than land line speeds, I think users have the right to call out the ISP on it's short comings.
Most users, are not really interested nor is able to understand the technical jargon the ISP throws at us. They can only see why Singtel/M1/VQ can access and we cannot.
i think they offering if for u to break ur contract. to offset the termination costs
give us cash ?
My ONT link is down.
I'm now on my backup provider.
Nope, that will be in form of credit to offset your monthly bills![]()
so every month pay zero for bill ?
MR users are rather active in this forum thus its unfair to say "the size of the threads and issues posted" is alot. Most of the forum thread on MR serve more than just complain, it is also one of the official channel that MR users can come to 24/7 to look for help (thou reply in the wee hours would most likely not be answered immediately) and is also a community gathering point. Help is not only rendered by MR personnel but by fellow subscribers who chip in their own time to assist other subscribers (even those from other ISP) with issues faced and the occasional off topic informational chats.i just got my house and is looking around for ISPs. MR seems to have alot of problems looking at the size of the threads and issues posted by users.. was initially interested in the 1Gbps offering but now not so much....

One impt fact: When it works, no one ever "complains".

Yeah, this is always the case in the service sector.
I always practice to give good feedback to service I received.
