Yes you'll need to sign up for static IP, otherwise you'll be unable to access it from outside your home network.

Yes, you will need to apply for the Static IP for port forwarding in order to access outside from your home network.

IP camera does not work on MR default dynamic PRIVATE IP.

so i supposed no one is on 1gbps yet?

I seriously doubted so.

MR claimed that they have conducted their "alpha" test successfully but who knows if its a LAN 2 LAN or FTTH 2 MR connection?

Further claims that they need only one week for "beta"??? They don't even have 1G in the first place and on a new Network, 1 week? :s22: My take is the various network equipment vendors also has the worry of instability under load. Such implementation is new in the world. Yes, there is already 1G FTTH for Singapore but not rolled out at such scale.

I was all excited when I saw the launch news and signed up on the very first day but I felt its a "half bake cake" but have decided to go with them.

However, looking at how things are going for the past weeks, I don't think its even "half bake", they might have only started baking.

Decided to stay put even I received the call that they will call me next week to arrange installation (I did not opt in for beta). My feel is that they will take 6 - 9 months to stable the network and from then, I will decide (even if prices are higher, I am ok. Frankly, from the current "promo" price, I have a feeling with the saying "pay peanuts, get monkeys") and I do not want my server services hosted off my current connection to suffer.

I remember reading a post linking to IDA site that they already got the approval as Opco since last year November. The Alpha test probably started in december and the ends in feb (I saw one of their staff posting the end of alpha here). Since nobody posted anything (maybe they are not liable to say anything) the Alpha is probably done by MR staff (who themselves uses the connection at home). I have been shown the speedtest for alpha before.

Like I said in my previous post in your comments, the beta might not require extensive length, it could be to test for obvious and blatant issues like inability to reach certain sites. This DOES happen before (I am with MR for 21 months now) and users have to report sites to have them fixed.

Pay peanuts get monkeys is very true. MR is definitely a pay peanuts RSP. If you have worries about your server services, u should pay more and go for viewquest instead. Think they are more stable.

Yes, I saw ur comments previously. I am seeing more in the "beta", the proxy servers, load balances, networks equipment and etc have to be tested and fine tuned with certain load. Like I mentioned, the vendors also should be crossing their fingers that things work well.

Yes, MR will succeed. But I hope that they will succeed fast and bring the internet speed to the next level for the day to day internet user. Only time will tell.

Speedtest these days are just numbers. So what if one can get a full 1G to MR? The next question is how is their CDNs and peerings?

They probably did those kind of tests in the alpha, because they did say that even when its a beta its a fully working connection. Its a bit of shooting themselves in the foot if the 200 beta testers can't even hit around 600-800Mbps (typical high end router LAN performance). Come April we will know.

If one is looking for peering and routes they shouldn't be here signing up for MR, should go for more established RSP, they will probably have better peering and stuff after being around for so long. MR to me is still the one to go if u wanna torrent on the cheap. Ang moh sites no issues, but access China sites...nah, go for something else.

If money is an issue when it comes to peering hopefully they can get enough funds from this 1Gbps connection and improve things as it goes by.
