I'm not really looking at the big 3 telco. From what I know, they do restrict torrent traffic. What I like about my 100mpbs MR pure is that they don't restrict torrent.

I only scared that after upgrading, it will be worse. Do you think so?

well my neighbour is on singtel and after doing the utorrent config and router port forwarding he has no more speed issues.

On the other hand my MR has been getting worse & worse. mega.co.nz used to be 13MB/s. now about 3MB/s. torrents aren't great (< 3 MB/s). Twitch streaming is a complete joke & BBC streaming is much poorer than Singtel (1 night for WC BBC was totally unwatchable on MR but fine on Singnet, mostly BBC on MR isn't good).

No doubt some issues with Singnet but calling support works. I used to be on Singnet ADSL and nv had an issue with torrenting.

the MR network performance has been steadily worsening. Fibre is a shared bandwidth infrastructure and without knowing MR's policy of number of subscribers per line per area & the quality of the bandwidth they buy, 1Gbps is a total marketing ploy.

Personally I regret choosing MR.

Are you using wired or wireless connection?

I believe it was mentioned several times that there are many factors e.g. number of seeders, ratio etc affecting the torrents speed.

Personally,

I stream the world cup from BBC (acestream / bloodzeed) which is HD and i get about a 95% uptime with minimal buffering even on weekend nights. For torrent, my speeds vary depending on the seeders/leachers but a file with good number of seeds usually hit about 3-5mb/s. Im a heavy downloader with files usually in the >10GB size. So far, im contended with MR speeds.

Im using the old 200mbps plan (or was it 100mbps?) and on wifi using a N56U router with at least 2 thick ass walls between my computer and the router.

Now I am re-contracting to the 1GBPS plan as im paying more for my slower plan currently. Possibly changing my router to the N68U. Same thing as others here.. signed up for recontract, no sight no sound from MR about 1 month plus. Then I read here that the online chat CSO works better. Tried that yesterday.. Within the same day got my call and arranged for setup date.

I would not say that I am overly happy with MR, but so far i've had minimal disruptions or complains.

I never failed to have problems with Singtel ADSL or Fibre. Slow speed, bad torrents etc.

Even a torrent with good seeds can't hit more than 3mbps wired connection on Fibre 100Mbps:s22:

Still waiting to Jump to MR and I personally think it will definitely be better than Singtel

IKR. I have heard stories

i hit 8mb/s on torrents if they are well seed.

Its all about the settings

Mind sharing? Cus I not sure if my settings are done correctly.

By right your IP address will only change if you turn your router off for more than 10 seconds

My installation is done in a very fast manner. This is the test result part 1:

MyRepublic Speed Test:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 944479 kbps (118059.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 474054 kbps (59256.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 1 ms
Jitter: 1 ms
7/3/2014 8:06:04 PM

SpeedTest.net to ViewQuest server:

Twitch: watching Twitch without buffering, very smooth. Currently watching 2 games at source quality (Invasion-Arrow, Minesky-Titan)

BBC iPlayer: BBC iPlayer - Watch BBC One live : smooth, no buffering

Other stream: http://tv.csmtalk.vn/pewpewvn (also Dota 2): smooth, no buffering

Later I will report download & torrent speed

You all might see that I have been a supporter and defended MR. But I guess everyone has a breaking point and today is mine.

Today I made the very regretful decision to decide that enough is enough from MR. I have been a defender of Myrepublic and have joined them 2 years ago, jumping from the Big 3 telcos to sign up with them. Honestly, for the last 2 years, barring some hiccups, everything was quite ok. So when my contract is up, I have no issues wanting to continue with them and in fact, wanted to upgrade to the 1GB plan. SO I received an installation date on 3rd July which is today. Having read so many feedbacks of them cancelling appointments last minute, I made a point to call at least twice with the latest one this morning at nearly 9am to ensure they are going to come later at 2-6pm. The guy said yes they are coming.

At around 10 plus, Miss Min from MR called me and told there will be problems with my installation as they 3rd party they are working with do not have permission to enter some building to do patching of system, therefore my installation cannot go ahead. I told her this is ridiculous because why did not the permission was secured a day before at least and now this is the kind of excuse given to cancel my installation? She says there is nothing she can do. I probed further and realised this is not the first time this happened and I asked her why then MR did not bother to resolve this problem and she just kept repeating that there is nothing MR can do. I told her, then get someone who can do something to talk to me. She insists that she is the one who can handle the situation but I told her, she should just go and find out what is happening with the 3rd party and get someone else to talk to me.

Put me on hold for a few minutes and then a Mr John came to speak to me. And Viola! MR pulled the biggest excuse. That due to a migration of sorts, my order was never entered into the system! Wow! And the best thing is that when I called in few times to ensure my installation will go ahead, they said "yes" to me is because they only see the main screen but did not go into the details and at nearly 11am, 3 hours before my supposed installation, someone in MR actually found out about this situation.

John wanted to offer a one month's waiver. And eventually I told him even if they offer me a 24 month's waiver, its not longer an issue with money. Its that ridiculous reasons are being given to put customers off. And after being promised installation today, and with their ridiculous reasons, John told me that I will have to wait at least 14 more days before they can schedule me for a new installation. That was the last straw. A service provider who cannot resolve issues and gives ridiculous reasons for that do not deserve my support. 2 years ago when I joined MR when I first saw them posting in Hardwarezone with people like Lawrence etc...I saw a chance to support a company willing to come up against the big boys. But 2 years later, they are just like them. Ridiculous. I will be sourcing for a new service provider and already ask John to terminate my 1GB request and will terminate my current MR service too.

hi everyone, i just upgraded to 1gbps on MR and im using the n66u.

just to confirm, the only way to get good speeds on the n66u on the 1gbps plan is to go with stock firmware or merlin right? i was on shibby tomato and the speed was pretty bad (250+ mbps on speedtest) so i flashed it to merlin and it went up to 800+ mbps.

any idea if dd-wrt would give better speeds for n66u on the 1gbps plan? or should i really consider getting the ac68u if i really want to use tomato or dd-wrt?

i kind of regret not getting the ac68u as part of my upgrade.

For 1Gbps plan, you can only use the stock or RMerlin firmware, since only these have the NAT h/w acceleration, which you need to reach speeds close to 1G.
3rd-party firmware like tomato and dd-wrt don't have NAT h/w acceleration so you won't even go above 500Mbps.
