Hi Bros. Just wanna ask if it is better to get the myrepublic lite plan or the tpg plan? Just for secondary number. Thanks!

MyRepublic has better connectivity both above and undergrounds. TPG has very limited underground connectivity.

Should you need more data for your secondary number, and you are using the data mostly outdoors and never underground, you can get TPG.

If you need consistency and more sms and call mins, MyRepublic will be better choice. For business phone line, MyRepublic Lite will be ideal. TPG is not suitable for business line.

i wannna sign up for Lite plan and port over my existing number from starhub when my SH contract ends on 1 June. MR staff told me i can port in at a later date by filling up a port-in application form. but the form doesnt allow me to tell MR which date i want to port in. So im worried that MR may port-in before my SH contract ends on 1 June. then starhub will fine me right?

this is the MR port-in form (3rd one): https://support.myrepublic.com.sg/hc/en-us/articles/115003745193-Service-Application-Request-Forms

There are overlap gaps in this so would suggest submit the form after your SH contract ends or on 1 june itself. (yah you will need to pay both side MR and SH until port in completed)

im trying to avoid overlaps lol. and i also dont want to pay SH for accidental early termination (if the port over happens before my contract ends on 1 Jun) or pay MR for non-usage if i sign up too early lol. but i also dun want any service disruption where ppl cant call me. i can deal with half a day where ppl are not able to call me, but not 1-3 biz days. the MR staff tells me the porting in to MR can take that long altho i saw ppl commenting here that it takes a few hrs only.

During port over can happen as fast as 1 working day and as slow as 3 days (so what you read is correct). You have no control over it. Normal turnaround is about 1 -2 day (during normal business hour but no ** really hard to say)

Actually I remember starhub will pro-rate your last month and you need to chase for refund after receiving your last bill.

Port over will happen normally at 12 AM and should complete by 4-5 AM. Unless u work during early hours else impact is low.

Yes. Because MyRepublic is using M1 Network. While TPG on the other hand is 4th Telco, and they are building up networks by themselves, there are many places underground that are not covered yet.

For your secondary line, you might not want to use it as there is no connection underground.

For your secondary line, you might not want to use it as there is no connection underground.

From another perspective:

As this is your secondary line, and the most important thing here is probably more data bundle, TPG 50GB $10 plan may not be a bad deal.

It is true that service coverage in tunnels is still work in progress, and inbuilding coverage in non-commercial buildings may still have issues.

However, as the bundle is 50GB/month, vs MyRepublic's 6GB (exc throttled), TPG may not be that bad. It is not unlimited, but with 50GB, as long as you don't use it to download large stuff on the go, it's practically eat-all-you-can buffet.

While inside tunnel, just switch back to your main line to normal stuff that you're used to now. Likelihood of exceeding the primary data bundle should be much lesser.

Sometimes inbuilding coverage woes do happen on non-TPG networks as well, it is not that the incumbents are immune to this problem.

Also, there are stretches in the train tunnel that M1's network do face network congestion during peak hours. Even if you have service inside, sometimes you just see spinning circle as well. So it's not all sunshine when using M1's network anyway. (geddit? Sunshine? M1?)

Btw, I'm using both M1 and TPG. So giving this perspective doesn't mean I'm persuading you to swing to one side or another, I'm saying as an alternate perspective to why TPG over MyRepublic, as compared to @Jurong640's MyRepublic over TPG.

Is myrepublic signal is as bad as m1?

Currently got 1 m1 line n 1 CL, both no signal at my carpark which is located at 2nd floor. Giga n TPG so far ok

Thought of changing giga to myrepublic until i see that it is also under m1

The reception will be same as main M1. For basement carpark, it's normal to have bad signals. It's dependent on your area actually. M1 isn't as bad as what some people had mentioned. If you really need a strong reception at your carpark, then MyRepublic is not for you.

Hi Bros. Just wanna ask if it is better to get the myrepublic lite plan or the tpg plan? Just for secondary number. Thanks!

It depends on ur area of coverage, existing line as well as needs.

If you are already using M1/ST and you think the coverage is good, Giga $10 (Starhub) would complement it in event of downtime or low coverage for ur first line. Giga $1 for 100mins talk time add on is good as and when you need it.

If you are looking at mainly data, TPG $10/50GB makes more sense as mentioned by lohsenglte

And I am reasoning why Giga is good over MR and TPG (I have all 3 lines)

Since you already know M1's network may not be that suitable for you, then MyRepublic's new plans won't help you at all.

And if StarHub & TPG's network fits your usage better, you can always think about them too.

Also, since you have M1 and CL, getting MR won't give you any form of redundancy. Once M1 is down, all the other two will be dragged along as well.

If you have multiple lines, it could be wiser to split into different carriers, just in case. Don't put all into one basket. ;)

hahah yes, see where you are coming from bro. thanks for the alternative perspective. i had signed for the tpg trial plan previously and the connection isnt too bad for my use, but when underground, or actually in the outskirts or corners of the country, the data seems to load real slow.

nonetheless, thank you to the bros here for the advices hahahah. still considering the options

As stated, my carpark is on 2nd floor n still the signal is bad. 1 bar at most

wah thanks bro. haha now there is another option to consider. i have been reading up on all the different telcos, and i dont want to just rely on the articles or reviews on the sites. is the reliability for giga good on a day to day basis or any issues? thanks

Really depends on ur area to access the Starhub network. I used it mainly as a data line and so far no major issue for the last 1.5 months. Northeast line is also good.

What’s ur first line telco? What’s the plan for 1st line? What’s the use of second line?

There are different considerations for me and for you. For me, my main line should not have so much call time and data, using it mainly for calling Govt and Banks, so it should never be TPG. It can be Giga $10, MR $10 or Grid $17.90z

My second line will be the mainstay as it is for work and video streaming. So it is either MR $29, SH $25+$20 (65GB) or M1 $30.35/40.35 for 30/80GB.

If you are kind that needs to run around the country and go ulu place, ST should be the key, with Grid Mobile or Gomo options

First line telco is ST. But bundled with the home and all. Purpose of second line is for side line, sign ups, and the likes. in a way to keep my first line free from spam and unnecessary calls or texts
