Finally rooted my note ii lte after updating firmware to LJ5

Purpose of rooting was to move apps to SD and placing custom apps onto the multi window

However, apps2SD is not supported, and link2SD requires 2 primary partitions on the SD.

I do not wush to reformat inorder to repartition, so I'll hunt for other solutions, mayb directory binding...

Now, multi window, the method from xda that involves flashing a custom zip file, only shows settings for LJ1 and LJ3.. any idea if LJ5 can use the LJ3 settings?

Thnx

Oh you referring to the one on modacco right? I'm interested to know if it's supported on LJ5 too! Anyone tried?

good news...
i flashed the new firmware LJ5, rooted it and used the previous zip file generated for the multiwindow app (from modaco) and it's back to normal.

i didn't wipe or anything. my stuff and apps remains.

initially, after reverted to stock, then root. i activate the multiapp by pressing and holding the return key...it showed some of my 3rd party apps in the side bar. but there was no other 3rd party apps when trying to edit.

this was resolved by flashing the zip i generated from modaco website using the LJ3 option last round.

edit: oh... lol don't know what's wrong with my whatsapp.... its in the app list for the multiwindow. but just can't seem to drag it to the multiwindow scrollbar. maybe I got to regenerate a new zip file or whether due whatsapp.

Thanks for sharing! Do try regenerating again and see if it does work perfectly on LJ5! Btw is Singapore the only country with LJ5 firmware?

just try? lol
last time i also just whack.
don't forget, that was meant for 7100 in the first place.

Yo mate!
Thanks for taking the leap

ok, honestly, I do not exactly know how to flash - and also the fact that I do not know how to "flash back to stock" in case it fails

tell me if these steps are wrong:

1. make a backup of the res file and store it "somewhere"
2. create the zip at modaco with the apps I want, and copy it (the zip) to SD card
3. boot into recovery, and flash with the zip from SD card
4. reboot and test

Recovery process:
if it fails, just copy the original "res file" back to where i found it and reboot and all is fine??

are these steps correct?

my best friend Google is not free tonite, so i dont wanna disturb her (him) first .. :)

NB: btw I've successfully rooted, following the steps to the T

yes. even if the backed up res file cannot work upon restore also no worries. coz u are just a flash away. can always flash back to stock.

damn easy. Just download the stock firmware and unzip oreveal the tar file. then use the Odin application to flash as u would when u were trying to do rooting.

ok. gonna try it now.

so initial flash would be copying the file to SD, and flash without using odin ya? coz i'm on Mac, though i can dual boot to windows to do odin again and reflash stock firmware (like how i root the note2 previously)

.. plus i'm using stock Rom updated to firmware J5 and rooted..

it doesnt matter if it is not "deodexed" right? coz ive been checking xda, and most of the multi-tools requires the deodexed Rom

..now waiting for phone to charge to at least 50% b4 attempting.. battery level is 3x % now..

flashing the multi zip from modaco no need Odin. just boot to recovery mode (cwm) and choose to flash the zip file u copied to your sd card.

yup, mine not deodexed too.

the double Facebook is when u already have a Facebook installed, then play store got a Facebook update. It will become this way. A reboot should fix it. but there's a bug, after a reboot the sidebar will be reset and u got to add your app there again.

yeah, choon choon after the flash, there was a facebook update, so it created the double Facebook :)

but, for me, after rebooting, the custom added apps still remains in the sidebar, maybe you have "too many" apps in the sidebar, thats why it is reset upon reboot? I thought I read somewhere that there might be some issues if there are a lot of apps in the sidebar, like 2 pages or something..

anyway, my issue now is, upon reboot, the sequence of the apps in the sidebar are "randomised", ie. i arranged whatsapp on top, SG Bus 2nd, dolphin browser 3rd - but upon reboot, their position were rearranged

This randomised arrangement was also mentioned in the forums - I can live with that for now

anyway, this is a great mod. And thanks for the encouragements, this is my first step in flashing .. (2nd - if you consider rooting = 1st)

now there's only 1 more thing left to do - getting apps onto the SD card..

directory binding seems to have some issues according the xda - sometimes it shows that directory bind crashes - but the binding still remains.. and there might be issues if we need to update the apps too

swapping int and ext storage - ie. mounting the SD card and "cheating" the system to let it know that ext = int, could be a solution, except the writing speed is a tad slower for external, as compared to internal

still looking for a better solution..

Thanks for confirming the modaco Webtool for multi app multitasking tray is working on LJ5! Anyone knows if it can work on LIJ too..? I'm still on LIJ and it seems LJ5 may just be problematic as well from some others here..

hmm, I'm sure you already did this, but just to be sure, did you add your own apps to the
...
, before you generated the zip?

ie. For Whatsapp, you need to add
com.whatsapp
