transmission started working for a few mins but hanged after that. stopped transmission and tried checking the contents of transmission-daemon.log

the filesize of the log is extremely big, taking over 500mb in space.

I just deleted the log cos it seems to take forever to transfer.
Will see what the new log posts after starting & stopping transmission.

EDIT:

these lines keep appearing again in the log, same as when i installed transmission myself.
"[08:48:17.439] DHT Attempting bootstrap from dht.transmissionbt.com (tr-dht.c:247)
[08:50:52.979] tr_crypto error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0) (crypto.c:336)
[08:51:44.499] tr_crypto error:24064064:random number generator:SSLEAY_RAND_BYTES:pRNG not seeded (crypto.c:113)"

repeat last line to infinity

note: smiley is :*P (without the *)

I added in

chmod 700 /ffp/var/lib/sshd/
chmod 700 /ffp/etc/ssh/ssh_*

into ffp/start/sshd.sh

as stated by some guy using a 320l on
HDD-Installation of the fun_plug 0.7 on NAS-devices

SSH works now.

The default permission for the mentioned file, ie. ssh_host_ecdsa_key is 600 which is correct. It may be referring to the private key file, ie. ssh_host_ecdsa_key.pub which is set to 644. Thus I believed by changing this to 600 should solve the issue.

In your case, you have change it to becoming an executable script instead.

As for Transmission error seem mainly DHT related. There is a bug fix in v2.74 on DHT for IPv6 addresses but can't be sure if it's the cause. Will compile the latest (v2.75) and post it up for testing.

Interestingly, some other guy has a similar error with transmission on the DNS-345, but on an older version of transmission.

"
I have a DNS-345 i have installed transmission 2.50 following the various tutorials using funplug 05 but i have a problem
either running through command line or the webinterface transmission generates a lot of errors related to "crypto":
command line:
tr_crypto: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0)
and in the transmission-daemon.log:
tr_crypto error:24064064:random number generator:SSLEAY_RAND_BYTES:pRNG not seeded (crypto.c:113)

in the log file this error is continuously being generated the log file gets to a enormous size quick, also it seems that
transmission is like hogging all the cpu power webinterface get's non responsive.
"
Not sure if it helps since i don't understand the commands but he used this to mitigate the problem.

"
rm /dev/random
rm /dev/urandom

and then

mknod -m 666 /dev/random c 1 8
mknod -m 666 /dev/urandom c 1 9

the problem goes away but it return later on usually from what i have seen till now a few minutes after the start
of a new day the error returns and you have to do the same thing again to solve it"

@LX2010, can you do a clean NAS restart and list the content of /dev. Need to know if the 2 device files is there by default or created via FFP.

Just type: ls -l /dev/random (and urandom)

sorry, but what exactly is a clean nas restart? Is it whereby only FFP is installed but no other packages such as transmission are on?

Also, do i enter it in SSH or Telenet?

Here's the result from telenet with only FFP & SSH/transmission not installed

"sh-4.1# ls -l /dev/random
crw-rw---- 1 root root 1, 8 Jan 1 2000 /dev/random
sh-4.1# ls -l /dev/urandom
crw-rw---- 1 root root 1, 9 Jan 1 2000 /dev/urandom"

Clean restart as in booting from stock firmware without additional intervention from user add-on like FFP.

From what I can gather, these 2 device files are already there by default, the only different is the file permission. On the DNS-320, random is set to 664 whilst urandom is 755. FYI, Transmission deamon is ran under account nobody which might be why the crypto errors occurred.

Oh man. Hope there's still some way to get transmission working. Tranmission looks leagues ahead of the default downloading software from dlink.

As a side note, I have to go back to camp today. Will probably be back on Fri so you can take your time on this.(if you're still working on it)

Also, thanks a lot for the time you've spent thus far! :)

I can only work with whatever info I received since I don't have a DNS-320L to begin with. It would seem like D-Link have not learn from their "mistakes", why reinvent something when it been working fine all along.

Tried UPnP AV Server recently, able to see it on Windows Media Player but doesn't support MKV or RMVB format.

Have tried iTunes Server in the past, IIRC can be seen on WMP as well.

Anyone know what's the current price and where to get this? Is the $99 Promo at challenger still available?

You already answered your own question ;)

Yes, $99 is for member only else it's $159 IIRC.

@georgeleong, if itunes server is indeed not working as it should then you should report this to D-Link, ie. post it here. AFAIK, there are no user report regarding this problem yet over at D-Link forum.

Unfortunately I have none of the devices mentioned else can help to verify this (but only on DNS-320).

The last time I checked was a week ago but didn't notice any mention of date.

Can't comment on streaming part as I don't own this model.

For BTing, the DNS-320 is up to task and with DNS-320L having more cpu and memory, it should be even better. But in IMO it's better to dump the provided BT client and switch to Transmission, you wouldn't regret it.
