I've updated my bios and it doesn't crashes anymore with some performance increase.

There's a small physical switch on the card itself, try switching it and update your card. My card is using Hynix RAM too.

Note: i think that all powercolor r9 290 pcs+ are affected with bad bios for current batch previously I 1 to 1 exchange the card because of frequent crashes and monitor unable to detect the GPU and after exchanged the problem still occurs. untill i flash updated bios by powercolor

pls refer to this forum
PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 44

Hey Guys,

This is Raymond from PowerColor, we were contacted before about performance issue with a small batch of cards. We have a bios update now that fixes the performance issue. To get the bios update, please email me with the EAN code, Serial Number and Model number. Basically all the sticker number on the back of the card. The bios will be released on a per case basis, so please do not release it publicly as it might damage other graphic card. You can email me directly at Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com.

Best Regards,
Raymond

If you read through the rest of forums, it does not affect a small batch of cards, seems like almost every 290 PCS+ is affected.
Wrote to Powercolor singapore but no response from them.

Hi Guys,

Please allow us to have some time to check about this issue.

The Bios that Raymond from TUL US side is more on improving performance & it's not for solving any other faults you may face.

Should there be any issue you're currently facing for your Power Color R9 290s, we would suggest to do the following steps first.

1. Please try to update the Motherboard BIOS to the newest then clear CMOS. Loading default BIOS setting then save and exit.

2. If Possible, please try do a fresh OS installing & do all the necessary windows updates. Then, Installing MB WHQL driver and graphic card drivers. Not forgetting to Install your games with the newest updates.

3. Please to try download the newest beta driver: AMD Catalyst 14.2 Beta Driver for Windows

4. If you wish to change the drivers to another version, please use the display driver uninstaller to remove all previous graphic card drivers. Display Driver Uninstaller

Should there be any issues after these steps are done, Please drop us a PM first so we can advice you what can be done next.

Any news on the Bios update, we will update again later this week & apologies for the waiting.

Regards
