as majority of users are perfectly fine with the Nokia ONR WiFi as it is.
the usual excuse/tai chi to justify and fend off such requests.

I'd say you are lucky to have gotten a professional CSO. unfortunately, that is rare, in my past experiences with SH.

It is a black box which I think they released previously paired with the TP-Link router (AP mode) for the UltraSpeed plans too. They recently changed all to the new Nokia XS-2426X-A (white tower) which then includes WiFi capability. It also comes with 10Gbps port. After converting to ONT, only the single port can be used on the "ONR".

Those who subscribed earlier in 2023 would most likely have gotten this black box too I think. They can correct me if I'm wrong. =P

But that new Nokia XS-2426X-A is NOT WFi 7 compatible as with other ISP's ONR as well for now. So it's a no-no to me.

Your way is still best to me (as long as the ONT has no issues) for I can use my own top-end WiFi 7 router....................come the day

Now they use Wifi 6 but in future they will upgrade to Wifi 7 for sure as technology is running very fast. I feedback to SH recently. Just wait la. MR may also change to ONR in future.

Moving towards WiFi 7 is a must and will surely proceed.

If MR go ahead with ONR then might as well contract now for 2 yrs with its ONT. As long as within the 2 yrs contract period I'll be happy with the ONT and WiFi 7 router mesh. After that if MR would to change to ONR then it's another thing.

If ALL ISPs go for ONR then routers will become extinct in the market...................I said that before. By then to just get APs

The question is why waste money on Wifi 7 router when you can just wait? Wifi 7 is no urgent thing so i can wait.

I'm waiting too.

My setup was recently completed and is 10Gbps-ready (Cat 6A cables, 10Gbps switches and a 10Gbps OWC TB4 docking station) except for a 10Gbps subscription and a WiFi 7 router.

If SIMBA 2.5Gbps can come early to my area I can try it for 6 months. Hopefully, later I can switch to 10Gbps once SH/MR can launch theirs.

With the 50% price drop for SH Ultra Speed Homehub+ it is just when SH will launch for sure. If Starhub throw in a Nokia Beacon 24 as free ONR for Ultra Speed Homehub+ then a lot of users will sign up for sure. Most users are waiting for it now. We want wireless speed which is convenient la.

I suppose it's a triband (not a quad band) ONR. Why their LAN ports are not multi-Gig ports?

https://www.nokia.com/networks/fixed-networks/nokia-wifi-beacon-24/

Its total speed is 24Gbps far lower than the ASUS 30Gbps ZenwiFi BQ16 Pro and the TP-LINK Deco BE95 33Gbps (both quad bands)

For god sake just give Nokia ONR XS-250X-A as a ONT and leave the router to the end user to decide

@Henry Ng

Since you made suggestions to SH can you also suggest that they offer 2 options for its 10Gbps plan

Option 1

SH can issue its ONR with WiFi 7 - for the general public

Option 2

SH should gve an ONT and let more knowledgeable enthusiastic users to decide on their routers. For this Option SH can
1) Dictate that it only has a responsibility to provide a 10Gbps line with the ONT
2) If SH technician is requested to attend to problem at user's premise - Issues related to user's router/network will be chargeable if it's confirm by the technician during troubleshooting. The technician will not be responsible to solve the user's router and/or network problem

Like that I bet SH will have higher user takeup rate

They say no to ONT earlier. They like ONR as it is faster.

What if MR changed to ONR?

Why do you think they will move to ONR? They are offering ONT and power users who do not need the contents offered by Starhub tend to sign up MR 10Gbps plan. I am pretty sure MR will be able to launch official 10Gbps plan and continue using ONT. It is good for Starhub as well as they can capture both type of users.

And there is no issue to wait for new providers to come out with 10Gbps plans. Eventually M1 will come on board as well. I tend to think M1 will use XGS-PON ONT.

The consumer market for 10Gbps pie is too small to be shared lah. If M1 wants to be involved it would have done it long time back. As for SIMBA............have to wait another few years since it just started with the 2.5Gbps

What if MR changed to ONR?

Since SH/MR also use ONR then see who provides a more powerful ONR (like quad band) with higher speed (33Gbps or more) WiFi 7 lor

If both provide the same powerful ONR then I'll take MR for its better performance. No IPv6 not an issue even after a few years IPv4 still won't run out of addresses. By then WiFi 8 will be launched

I'll buy APs with ONR unless ISP comes with mesh units
