Hi there, just to check, to upgrade to 10gbps you need 2 ports in order to have 10gbps fibre?
Just now starhub salesperson called and asked me if I have other phone or internet plans. I say that I have another singtel landline. So he said can't upgrade and ask me to pay $240 to change something at my home.
your Fibre Termination Point (FTP) has 2 ports and you just need 1 port to subscribe to 10Gbps

assuming that 1 port is never being used to subscribe to any services, then all's good...

Just saw the SingTel 5gig plan at $49.90 seems quite competitive with the StarHub 5gig plan at $45.00. Includes wifi 7 router for top up.

The drawback of going beyond 1Gbps is you need to have the necessary devices to support that so you may need to buy some devices that are not so cheap. That is not all, having more bandwidth may not be as good as one may be thinking. Most consumer websites will have internet traffic shaping and most websites do not require such high bandwidth and most sites will have CDN and they use technology to reduce the bandwidth required so that users can even download with their mobile phone. So what you think?

10G NIC for Desktops are not that expensive, but TB3/TB4/USB4 to 10G NIC for laptops are quite expensive.

That being said, I found two cheaper alternative from Tmall/Taobao today.
I have no ideas how good they are, so YMMV.

1. IOCREST IO-HTB113-GLAN

USB4 Single Port 10G Ethernet Adapter
Compatible with Thunderbolt 3/4
RJ45 10GBASE-T Ethernet
Support Mac
RMB 499 from Tmall/Taobao, S$125 from AliExpress.

This is very very cheap compared to our OWC TB4 to 10 Gbps LAN adaptor. The laptop or desktop must not be too old model and have the basic specs required to support it. However, users must understand that most websites do not require such high bandwidth and most sites will have CDN and they use technology to reduce the bandwidth required so that users can even download with their mobile phone. At the end of the day, it is up to users to decide whether they want to go beyond 1Gbps internet speed and which devices they want to buy eg. to replace an existing old computer with a new one with a fast processor and SSD.

10gig adapters are still useful for internal network transfer to nas. If you really only want something that is enough even a 500mbps connection is more than enough.

No SFP+ connection for optical fiber transceiver?

For those who are on the 5Gbps plans and use Desktop or mini PCs, IOcrest has RTL8126 based 5Gbps network adapters at RMB89 and RMB99.

Again no idea how good they are. YMMV.

for overseas servers, myrepublic uses starhub as their upstream transit provider.

tl; dr they are essentially the same, so see price and content bundle.
SH peak hours slow down is a concern and their backend simply do not care and keep saying they are investigating. How users know whether they are working or not? They should be able to see our network clearly. Some more we are 10 Gbps ready long ago. SH is their own ops co so everything in their own hand. The issue has been affecting me for 2 months+ and SH keep dragging the case. There are many affected by the issue. SH should resolve the issue immediately instead of dragging it.

Meaning to say the SH Home Digital Voice is plug into the BE810v directly? Is there still a need for a ONT or this TP link router is ONR by itself? Fibre Box to TP link directly? No idea how it works, maybe expert can explain.
I got the setup in May.. still spot the Nokia ONR. My digital voice is plugged to Nokia.

Looking for answers.... for some reason my EB810v LAN1 is not working at all.

Call Starhub for support?

Do you mean the 10G LAN port? When you say it does not work, what exactly is not working?

Not working for 10Gbps? It could be your 10G NIC which is not working.
Try a different device, for example, it should work with typical gigabit Ethernet port.

Feel like we got short changed and not say technology not mature yet. Better do not sign up 10Gbps now. Wait and see.
I was on 2Gbps... 1+1 using Asus router for load balancing (SH didnt even share this info).
Contract's up, got 10Gbps bundle, it is cheaper than my 2Gbps's subscription.
I made the jump to wifi 7, as I have been looking to get a 6E to upgrade from my old 5.
