The Alienware comes with Dell Priority Phone Support, so call this hotline 1800 394 7486, rather than the normal Dell Tech Support hotline. The lady I spoke to understood that I was entitled to receive a Windows 8 OS disk once I told her I needed to do a clean install on a new SSD and AlienRespawn could not work because it reported that I needed a 750GB disk. Dell sent me a Windows 8 OS disk via DHL.

It looks like this
Dell Windows 8 Recovery Media CD for Winodws 8 Products 64bit - Drivers & Utilities

Thanks for the info. Btw, just to clarify, so with a clean install on a SSD, the alienware respawn will not work?

Yup, AlienRespawn (the version that came installed in our new laptops) does not work when trying to restore to a new SSD. And you can't use AlienRespawn to create a clean Windows 8 OS recovery disk. It only allows you to create an image of the 750GB HDD that came inside the laptop.

I just subscribed to SingTel Fibre on 31st July and currently waiting for the redemption letter to arrive. Anyone have any idea when I can expect to redeem the Alienware 14? I might get a mSATA hard disk and want to make it my primary disk for OS files only. Is there an online tutorials to transfer the OS from the existing hard disk to the new mSATA hard disk? Thanks in advance.

When's your installation date? The letter will arrive 7 business days after the Fibre installation, not the sign up date.

I installed my fibre on 9 July, my collection date is 22 August (yup 1.5 months later) so actually I haven't collected mine yet. I bought another one from someone who collected on 22 July since I needed another laptop anyway. Will patiently wait for my other one later this month, heh.

As for installing Windows 8 on an SSD, some suggestions and a brief tutorial are on the earlier pages of this thread.

Hey guys,

I am facing a problem with my M14.I bought it direct from Dell Online store.Hmm, when I set the keyboard settings to cubed or colorwheel, it works while I am operating but once I restart the system, the color is auto gone and I cannot change it again. I will have to restart the whole system to do it again. It is only for these two settings though.Other settings work fine.

Not really, you can adjust the effect just need to play around with it. Takes me a while to setup for it to work on the new alienware....

I think you could right? This winamp plug is more of a music or movie effect lighting. All alienfx do is to allow us to change the color to our liking.....

One thing i notice about the AW14 is that nvidia optimus sometimes fails to detect that you are gaming and doesn't turn on the gpu.

Switching to discrete-only solves this but u get less battery life and somehow my AW always shuts down when i close the lid instead of sleep in this mode i.e when i open the lid it doesnt come back on by itself. Already checked the settings in alienfusion.

Just figured out that u can actually manually set certain programs for optimus to trigger the GPU in nvidia control panel (manage 3d settings -> program settings -> select program / add exe manually -> use "High-performance nvidia processor")

Optimus should run once it detects a game running in full screen. Of all the games I've tried on a variety of laptops, only one failed to start the GPU, though the game is not well known, Path of Exile. Most big titles should not have any issues with the Nvidia GPU kicking in.

Alternatively, you can right click on the game icon and select "run with graphic processor --> high performance Nvidia processor."

Dell website cheapest spec $2299.
I am looking below 2k

I doubt you can find one that is below 2k unless someone here is selling the singtel set. Most of them are selling less than 2k. But for installment plan there really isn't much of a choice here. Even if courts or harvey norman do sell it prices are more or less similar.
