New China Dramas: New and Upcoming Shows

Let's hope they have better dramas lined up for the rest of the year. I think Tencent has the strongest slate, at least for the next few months. 庆余年 第二季 and 长相思 第二季 are expected to be out soon. They also have 金庸武侠世界, which looks like a 2024 (or possibly summer) show.

Still waiting for CXS S2, as usual...

Gonna check out War of Faith later on. Many reviews are 10/10 on MyDramaList, which I usually refer to for info and reviews.
Seems like it’s a must watch drama of the year.

Enjoy the series! Moi checked out a bit of episode 1. Wang Yibo's acting is quite good inside.

Not sure where you are at with Harbin 1944 now, but wondering whether to drop this series already...

It starts out just fine but is getting quite tedious and unpleasant to watch. I don't really like this Song Zhuo Wen character. Even though Guan Xue is supposed to be smart and ruthless, this guy runs circles around her and her agency the whole series, from the moment he appears. He will also be her downfall. The violence is also depressing to watch. Maybe this type of story works better as a movie.

I am on Ep 3 now. Actually this is a good show. But if you were to compare it with 追风者, this shows first 2 episode is a bit messy, tends to keep you on the suspense and then slowly unveil. Especially the first 2 episode. The way of the story telling is very different style.

When Guan Xue sees the rail policeman for the first time, I think it’s Ep 1 ending, there is flash back which I do not understand, I have to own self find ownself info to know that the flashback is her saviour.

追风者focus much on character development and builds Wang Yibo personality and values slowly as the episodes goes. Harbin 1944 is more fast pace

Two recent highly rated mini-series:

我的阿勒泰 (To The Wonder)

Selected for an international TV festival (Canneseries). Doesn't look like moi type of show but apparently the cinematography is quite good. 8 episodes. Very high Douban rating of 8.8.

不夠善良的我們 (Imperfect Us)

New-ish Taiwan mini-series which ended late last month. Music by Tanya Chua. Tried a wee bit of 1 episode but didn't really like it (maybe just me). 8 episodes. Also very high Douban rating of 8.3.

Actually the one that I’m really looking forward besides Lost You Forever, it’s the Fox Spirit Matchmaker series that are star studded. Yangmi remains the best fox spirit actress on screen for me and she will be appearing in season 1.
Season 3 comprised of Cheng Yi which confirmed will be good and tear jerking.

Thoughts on recent series...

狐妖小红娘·月红篇
Watched a few episodes of this and really struggled to stay interested in the story. The poor script is made worse with the whole cast not using their original voices, bad bgm, and a dependency on special effects (as usual for this genre). Gong Jun ish keyi and he does look more interested in his role here compared to last year's 安乐传 (which flopped, especially by the second half), but it is not enough to save the series.

庆余年 第二季
Decided to skip this as have already forgotten what happened in S1 and after seeing mixed comments about S2's plot/script (eg many unnecessary scenes added for various supporting characters, unfunny jokes, self-conscious acting, etc.).

墨雨云间
Expectations are not high for this (iykyk) despite the story seeming somewhat interesting, just hoping it's at least watchable.

Just moi two cents
