I just started watching 玫瑰故事. 刘亦菲 looks like slimmed down quite a bit from her last appearance in 去有风的地方. Now she looks convincing enough to act as an intern at the start of the show.

Thoughts on The Double so far...

The less this series focuses on romance and the insufferably vain ML, the better it gets. They should have stopped with the rain scene.

Why do we need the FL to quickly fall for a man she barely knows (despite having just been brutally buried alive by her husband)?

Why does the ML need to stalk the FL everywhere and appear out of nowhere with his two minions in unnecessary 英雄救美 scenes?

Will a FL driven by revenge be in a frame of mind to sniff roses dreamily in a bathtub (read: dreaming of ML)? Or mend the ML's torn handkerchief? What is going on?

Instead of letting a long dramatic scene with the FL flow beautifully with WJY's acting, we are constantly shown a closeup of the ML's face and his impassive or smirky reaction while the FL is talking or doing something.

Is this not a FL-driven drama? Can the FL not survive without romance or the ML's high-and-mighty assistance?

If this drama can focus on the revenge plot, it could be quite thrilling.

The character that really puts the 爽 in this 复仇爽剧 is:

Not to say The Double is bad. Just a shame that it could be so much better. Will continue watching.
