New Computer in feb

Unfortunately i plan on going on a weekday afternoon XD not exactlly the best time for an outing with office working friends.

I have a suggestion. Don't get Haswell. Get an Ivy Bridge i7 instead. Maybe a 3770k and overclock it to 4.5. Easily outperforms the Haswell.

Go for a GTX 670 like some here have suggested. It will easily burn through FFXIV ARR at max settings.

Also, you might wanna watercool your CPU instead. Good air coolers go for about 200. Put some extra cash in and get a simple water cooling kit.

The advantages would be that your rig would be quiet and you can get better overclocking results. You can go for a closed water loop kit like the Corsair H series if your budget is low for cooling. Still beats air cooling in terms of noise but not scalable like a custom loop and as such, are far cheaper.

If you have the budget, you can also overclock your GPU and watercool it. Although that isn't really that important. It's more for slightly advantageous overclocked yields and less noise over stock GPU air coolers.

if im not wrong, the price of 680 has dropped which is pretty much more worth it to get a 680 den a 670.

Overclocking is fun and require a lot of patience. Before overclocking my cpu, I read up on my cpu specs and checked what was the average overclocked speed ppl could get on my cpu and from there u can gauge whether u got a gd cpu or below average.

What I did was to set my vcore to 1.2 and tried out 4.6ghz. However it gave me a straight bsod. From there I tried down tuning to 4.5ghz. It managed to boot but couldn't run stable after stress testing. Same goes for 4.4ghz. After trial and error and playing with most settings, I managed to get 4.4ghz running at 1.25v with a max temp of 70 under load.

Well, I can still fine tune some more I suppose but I'm kinda lazy and the temp is within the safe zone so I guess I wun be touching the settings anytime soon.

did you know that the average lifespan of a cpu is 10-20 years?

and depending on how you overclock your system, it might jolly well last longer than the average stock cpu.

relating to overclocking, why does overclocking reduces the lifespan of your cpu? Simple logic, becoz overclocking causes your cpu to run hotter which might lead to degrading of your cpu components. HOWEVER, if you are able to keep your temps under control, your cpu degradation can be kept to the minimal which overall shouldnt affect the lifespan of your cpu.

TLDR: Overclocking does not hurt your cpu. Heat does.

Well, i believe there are a lot of OC-ed examples around that lasted them until they had to upgrade to keep up with technology. I see no point to continue this debate. To each his own. Cheers!

i'll testify that I have seen dinosaurs PCs which my work place refuses to change cause its still working.

And yes, they are 10 years old.

TS, you may want to take some reference to the right of this post. I bought my rig last week. Taking out the OS and HSF it will cost about your 1.8k budget. Not from Tradepac though.

You have to walk quite a fair bit to the temporary taxi stand, so you are carrying both your casing and your items, good luck.

Fortran? Well pricing otherwise, i actually enjoy the unboxing and assembly of a diy com.
I recently assembled one for my friend (he opted for cyberactive as he did not trust SLS even with a foot long branch).
Matx,i5,ssd,hdd,ati gpu, psu, casing, dvd rom. Just basic plug and play.

If u want b85 g43 gaming u can go arc midi (atx case) can house anything tt is atx board and smaller. Mini is similar to midi just smaller and only can house matx and smaller board. Depend whether u want more space to work with or save space in ur final setup. Both comes with window and non window if im not wrong. Actually wanted to get midi also. But my ahLian still standing strong. No need to go define if u prefer the arc style. Define is slient case

There's a taxi stand near the busstop. However due to construction u need to walk a fair bit. Get one really good fren to go with u? Den can treat him with the discount you saved. Cause if there is casing + psu its pain in the ass for me alternative get casing online like from MNC delivery.

I tried googling but all i kept getting was aftershock.
My this friend was very very very impatient. I told him we'd go on a sunday(my rare sunday off) and buy his rig and assemble it at his house. But he got so impatient he went to cyberactive and asked the shop people to assemble one for him.
Right before assembling the shop attendent told him that without an OS its just a huge metal box so he was shocked and called me in a rush. And got scolded by me hahaha (the shop attendent recommended him 760 gtx, i7 core when he told him he wanted a gaming rig XD)

I think my purchases should fit into 3 bags, 2 for parts and 1 for casing. So i might bring a bag and stuff the contents of one of the bag of parts into it.
With 2 bags it will be manageable.
