yeah that's why quite pointless to quit job to study full-time coding, unless going to take up like bootcamp or something..

Though what I meant was just by developing certain web applications with JavaScript (e.g. Yelp clones, many tutorials on that or even just games like tic-tac-toe or the color memory game), you will be able to convince certain employers to take you in at the entry level if you don't mind the salary (probably ~2.5k or less).. don't really need complicated codes on github as long as you are able to explain the process behind it.. know a few people who managed to do that

Yeah bootcamp is on the table. Thought of giving myself 1 year to achieve some level of competency to jump to the working level.. I just think self learning wouldn't help for me with all the distractions from work and family.

just came across the NTUC PCP website..

not sure whether its a typo or the figures are real..

if the figures are real, the PCP is quite a joke..

350 jobseekers registered but only 8 hired.. that's 0.022% success rate :D

the course is over. i do not know about other pcp, but for software development at least 3 months are definitely not enough.

Bottomline is, should I quit my job and jump to study coding?

You might want to try ISS-NUS graduate diploma in systems analysis. It's a course that helps non-IT graduates to convert and work in an IT industry.

Quite a bit of coding...

Well the problem with that course is that it's a full-time one year (even though with 6 months internship) and not many working adults can commit to that...

That course also focuses more on Java, C, as shown in their syllabus so may not be ideal too for someone looking to do purely web applications.

also heard that quite a lot of foreigners in that course compared to singaporeans, so may find it hard to adapt and blend in with the class.

the developer pcp is pretty heavy on front end development. However they are using angular framework which requires you to learn node.js, angular, typescript, express and a few other database. I am taking up pcp mostly to gain government grant and to socialise with fellow coders. to be honest udemy is a better choice learn coding.

Agreed. There are so many online resources these days for learning. Knowledge is free.

I am also trying to convert. All the best to you! Just keep working hard.

Pls dun sabo ppl lah!

what for? not useful to me

dont think its that bad lah, few months ago did try to find some reviews on it and have 2 guys wrote quite detailed about it and can see that they aren't earning any commissions from it:

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...web-development-immersive-review-5282897.html

but of course the NUS one is still cheaper and sometimes it may be better to self study first.. but usually for these kind of courses the value lies in the career network they can provide

Thinking about joining the full stack javascript pcp after finishing my degree in murdoch computer science and cyber forensics (full time)any advice?

About 9 months away from graduating.

My background is 2 years experience in ithelpdesk. Also doing ceh certification which is useful for web security.

I have been coding about 6 months now on my own + school work but havent got much progress. I do have my fundamentals in programming oop + some data structures,

I know c++, java.and basic javascript

Trying to find time to do more javascript on my own. Is a course like this useful to enter development field?

if u have com sci degree u already do not qualify for this pcp. just try to find an entry level programming job, your com sci degree should have equipped you well enough with the fundamentals. you probably learn less in the PCP anyway compared to what you would learn in a full scale comp sci degree.

can use your projects in school as your portfolio.

i cant help if your focus is on C++ or java. for javascript you need to know html and css at the very least, even if you only write backend node.js and express.js.

for the full stack pcp, there is a batch coming up in august. be prepared to learn angular typescript framework.

javascript very simple, pick up es5 to es7 functions and prototypes first. afterwards go learn framework such as angular.js/angular 2+ and react. pick up jquery, express and their middleware such as multer, bodyparser, passport, jwt, bcrypt and etc.
