Lol you need to catch up with happenings bro.

Singapore is a premier source of Nerf and gel blasters. There is a super active community. Some rotten eggs spoil the fun by actually importing illegal things. The guy who made the news lately? He had a mix of both legal and illegal kit. It was illegal discharge in public that got him the attention of SPF. He has been excluded from the community.

Here is where the lines are drawn.

Legal to own, legal to make, Import of COMPLETE units are CONTROLLED

-Foam blasters that are not gas actuated
-Gel blasters that are not gas actuated
-Water guns

You can get complete units from manufacturers and distributors who followed SPF process. It is generally not a good idea to import your own. Here's an idiotic situation. You can leave Singapore with your legit NERF blaster on holiday, but not legally bring it back in assembled. High end NERF blasters are disassembled for international travel when overseas games are played because of this. In pieces, the blasters are not controlled items because when complete they are not classified as firearms.

Some places like ifb.sg and springblaster.com are legit places to get foam blasters.

The definition here of gas actuation encompasses CO2 canisters and high pressure air. It does not cover indirect gas actuation by means of a spring.

====
ILLEGAL in all forms to possess for private individuals. This is what the quoted article is talking about.
Airsoft, and also stun guns.

-Paintball markers
-Airsoft AEGs
-Airguns
-Crossbows

Corporate entities with licenses from SPF can own the above btw. That is why I made explicit mention of private individuals.

There is a bit of grey area between hobby gel blasters and airsoft AEGs that makes the import of gel blaster mechanisms controlled. Gel blasters are essentially scaled up AEG mechanisms so the permits process is a bit of minefield to navigate. Best to leave it to companies registered with SPF to handle that e.g. bluebird gel blasters. Contrast with NERF blasters because gel blaster gearboxes are controlled items whilst nothing that makes up a NERF blaster is controlled.

I am a BBGB customer. We are actually instructed to retain the receipt and show it to SPF if anything happens to prove that the gel blaster we have was obtained through legit means. This is probably due to the controlled standardized gearbox and is not a problem you would encounter with regular NERF foam blasters. I suspect that Kiddy Palace and Toys R Us blasters use substantially different gel launching mechanisms that aren't AEG adjacent.

I see...

But these things still look dangerous since they can be easily modified to fire other projectiles. I think its only a matter of time before something nasty happens and these things get banned.

You’d be surprised to know they absolutely suck at firing anything other than foam.

Going by that logic kid grade nerf blasters should be banned too.

The MOAB for example has a chronoed muzzle velocity of 70fps. This is less than what a NERF or Xshot branded toys r us blaster does.

It is entirely form before function. Which is why I got it in the first place. My nephew loves NERF and engineering, and this will be a well placed tool to introduce him to additive manufacturing.

btw the community here does go to some lengths to ensure our blasters look nothing like real steel. All brightly coloured, mostly plasticky.

Me? Im gonna do my MOAB in hello kitty pink complete with furry charms.

Yes but they can be modified.

Absolutely. And if the line is crossed, the law should be brought down hard on the fellow’s neck. Remember. The only difference between a sledge hammer and a tool of murder is intent.

Kiddy palace sells full auto gel blasters. Those can probably generate more firepower against otters than ts's expensive flex.
Remember the blasters Nparks use against the monkeys? That is the upgraded SHUS Shark available from Bluebird Gel Blasters. Gel is more suitable for animal control because the hydro beads turn into dust when dried.

Btw for those looking to try out foam blasting...

This one is a really nice unit to start with. $299 from springblaster.com with CNC machined upgrade parts. They have a preorder open for the latest iteration of their all metal mainline blaster too, but that one is rather expensive.

Worker Seagull with upgraded parts:

The stock Seagull is alternatively available from ifb.sg for $170

Also available from IFB is the ZWQ S400 which is a highly rated unit for $180.

PEW PEW! Responsibly. The two above are 200+ fps blasters and can be configured with aftermarket parts for 300 fps which is not a power level suitable for friendly games.

BTW for those who like Gundam and are a bit Cuckoo: Very limited edition All CNC single shot blaster. Breech loaded. It is essentially a Nerf Jolt on steroids. I want.... but oh so expensive for what it is. It is also called the Cuckoo and retails for more than my MOAB kit cost. Wholly impractical with a long reload process. It does 150ish fps which is quite a bit more than Jolt and is closer to what you might expect from a higher end toy grade blaster like an XShot pro. There's only so much a small plunger and short barrel will afford you.

Maybe can show the finished product one day :o
One day :) Maybe end of year. June holidays coming to an end and it is after all a build I mean for my nephew to take the lead on. I will probably 3D print the bulky non-structural parts first.

Want him to experience first-hand though the importance of print directionality and layer/infill management with structural parts like the gears.

And the next project further down the line:

M4m0th Greg.

NERF AMR firing 30mm diameter foam at 250fps. A regular NERF dart is 12.7mm.

We go from BRRRRRRRRT to BOOOOOMZ.

Is 200+ FPS enough to kill a lizard or cockroach ?

2 weeks to print, 30m to load, 15s of BRRRT, 15m of cleanup.

Pricessless.

Look forward to laugh in TF2 Heavy.

Gonna build this as a project with my nephew. Need a slave to pick up the shell casings and links, and who has the nimble little child fingers to assemble the lot.

I have a couple of quick upgrade ideas :

- Use a snap latch instead of a screw to close the loading chamber.

- links for the ammo belt and the tubes is separated when the nerf darts are pushed into the chamber. Meaning can technically build an attachment for the ejection port that splits the spent links and tubes into 2 different bags. Saves a bit of time "cleaning up". But won't be as much fun as seeing "casings" flying out everywhere though

- or, if got more skills, redsign the belt into an continuous loop. Ie
- links don't decouple;
- tubes will have a section built like a spring, allowing the tubes carrying the nerf darts to stretch forward into the "firing chamber" to deliver the darts. Emptied tubes and links then feed directly back into backpack as a continuous belt. No need to spend 30 mins to reconnect the links and tubes. Just need to reload the darts into the links.
