To my Friends and Supporters

Would you consider helping to defray the costs and expenses incurred in running the NSP Marine Parade Campaign?

These include the following items:

(1) Production (Artwork and Printing) of Flyers, Posters, Banners, Election Booklets

(2) Postage and distribution of Election Booklets to Marine Parade residents

(3) Labour to put up and take down Posters and Banners

(4) Production of “Chope” Tissue Packs

(5) Setting up stage, barricades, spotlights, sound system, etc for Rally at Aljunied Open Field on 28 April 2011

(6) Rental of lorry, with driver and fixing of ambulating loud speakers for 9 days

(7) Food and refreshments for volunteers

(8) T-shirts for volunteers

(9) Translation services

(10) Rental of room for press conference

(11) Rental of video equipment

(12) Telecommunications, Transport, photocopying, stationery and incidentals

We are currently in the process of compiling the list of costs and expenses for the Marine Parade Campaign (excluding items to be borne by NSP at party level).

Based on the invoices at hand to date, the Marine Parade Campaign expenses are well over $35,000 and will be borne by my team mates and I personally, as candidates.

I am legally allowed to ask for contributions from fellow Singaporeans. Hence, do consider if you could help.

** No amount is too small! **

Your contribution of any amount, will be very much appreciated!

Any excess over the amount required to cover the costs of the Marine Parade Campaign will be handed to NSP.

Yours sincerely

Nicole Seah

NSP's Candidate on behalf of the NSP team for Marine Parade GRC

Address on NRIC or company’s registered address

this may be the first time that such an appeal is being made, at least in such a manner.

in the appeal, nicole did not explain why such an appeal was made. the lack of a detailed explanation as to the appeal makes it somewhat difficult as to why such an appeal was necessary.

yes, it was mentioned that the appeal was to defray costs and expenses incurred for the marine parade campaign. however, more should be done to explain why such an appeal was made. did they blow the budget and are now in debts and serious financial difficulties?

or was it simply a case of wanting to seek reimbursement for the costs and expenses incurred so that they would not suffer financial losses in the campaign?

if it were the former, i believe that sg ppl may not be that heartless to want to see opposition party ppl get into serious financial problems as a result of contesting in the ge. after all, as opposition ppl more often than not say, they are 'fighting' for singaporeans.

however, if it were to be the latter, it would be disappointing to learn that such a development is happening in sg politics. it is also interesting to note that the appeal was only about the marine parade campaign.

there is never a sure win in contesting in the ge. well, almost, in some cases. thus, there should be the preparation to lose. in the same vein, the costs and expenses incurred in the running of a campaign must be such costs and expenses which one must be prepared to not recover.

this is disturbing in the sense that if such an appeal were to be met with overwhelming success and be inculcated as normative opposition politics, a possible situation would be that prospective opposition party members may just pop out to contest knowing that they would be reimbursed even if they do not win.

is this a good thing? it may be a positive development in the sense that there may be more contests from the opposition in future ge. however, it may lead to the quandary where the opposition opposes just for the sake of opposing and further, the kind of dedication and conviction may be lost.

is this the kind of development that should be encouraged?

if you want to stand up to be MP and be the voice of the people you must have the resources to do so. It's a sad truth esp in Singapore. And honestly I think Nicole Seah and some of the NSP candidates are quite well-off.

Doesnt make sense for us to chip in to their campaigning dollars. I would not chip in even if it were WP or SPP or SDP.......... unless if I join the party of course
