you totally missed the point. their problem is not even that they overspent. it appears that they failed to budget (or cannot be bothered to budget) for these expenses. if really money not enough, don't spend on the unnecessary. most of these expenses should have been forecasted and many could have been avoided by appealing to volunteers, donors before the election and not anyhow spend thinking can always ask for donations from smitten fans later.

look through their expense list, got chope tissue some more. posters and banners i thought nsp put up themselves?

and begging for money via facebook and appealing to the naive "fans" AFTER the election really makes one wonder if they are really that serious about serving singaporeans in the first place. want to gamble on getting $15K/mth MP allowance but expecting singaporeans to pay for all their miscellaneous expenses?

the actress supposedly so sad and cry about the poor over a couple of hundred dollars and has no shame in asking for well over $35,000 NOT for helping the poor but to cover all the misc expenses of these young professionals who think running for election is an all expenses paid jaunt.

think if these wannabe politicians are so poor that they cannot even afford to fork out a small sum of money for their own compaign, its better they spent their youth working to support themselves before even professing to help others. but most working professionals would have no problems paying for these expenses themselves so is this a case of them expecting singaporeans to foot all their bills?

money does not grow on tress and for them to spend well over $35K AND expect others to pay for all their expenses is really too much. this money can go a long way to helping the poor residents they profess to want to serve.

and worst, can also use personal bank account to seek donations from the public

instead of saying show me the money, they should put their own money where their mouth is.

no you missed the point. you don't seem to get that NSP compared to incumbent is a small party with limited resources and manpower. If they really had that many volunteers to tap GMS bro will not pass away putting up posters in tampines.

Has it occurred to you that they incurred all the costs first because they knew that time was short and didn't want to look disorganized like SDA and RP did when they ask for last minute donation the night b4 nomination day. Not to mention the fact that all these items take time to produce if they dun prepare b4 nomination day may not have them ready during the short campaign period and then got nothing to give out at rallies and visits then GCT can smile and say really No substance Party.

Yes money don't grow on trees...you think they produce all that election material or set up rallies and press meetings dun cost anything? If they dun produce then people will say they're not putting up a proper fight just like SDA that put up a half assed fight. you think 35K is small sum? remember who they are...they are not rich people from rich background. they are working people like you and me. yes i agree the personal bank account might be a mistake but she has stated that she will send the donor a receipt indicating received. if you really think she's pulling a con job why don't u report them to CPIB?

not obama lah...

hillary clinton was running out of budget. asking for donation after election finish. obama donated to her 700 USD (max allowed).

hilary also draw from her own pocket twice during the campaign when they were short of money.

the point was made in reference to him being labeled a "joker"...does the guy really deserve the tag of being a joker just tt he messed up on his election strategy? alot of point was made about his strategy in retrospect after the Aljunied WP team succeeded..

Goh Meng Seng had plenty of bad press way before the elections. He mentioned running the Town Council is not the job of an MP, amongst other things. Correct me if I am wrong, but I do remember reading somewhere that he sold his HDB to contest and if he lost, he would move to Hong Kong.

And I don't know what strategy the NSP has shown in this elections. The entire Tampines team was nowhere to be seen during the whole campaigning period and once it became clear Nicole Seah was the rising star of the party, the entire party became Nicole Seah Party. No doubt he lost a loved one in that period but it is not fair to anyone, much less his deceased brother, to say that has disadvantaged them.

What is wrong with you guys lol. She isn't demanding for money, she is asking nicely for it. You don't have to give if you don't want to.

Running a campaign certainly costs money. It doesn't mean that they overspend. If you don't give them money they'll just bear the costs themselves which they have planned to (And I am not giving!). No need to criticize them for it.

Say going to university costs money but you planned for it and decided you can afford it working part tiem while studying. You aunt sees your plight and you tell her you are happy to accept her paying your school fees for you. She decides to sponsor part of your school fees. Is there anything wrong with that? If she doesn't give you any money you are going through with it anyway...

Yes, I agree. Afterall she is asking for a donation.

But therein lies many salient points that do not reflect well on NSP. For one, it seems like another attempt to bank on Nicole Seah's popularity. It is quite clear NSP has indeed become Nicole Seah Party. Case in point, contrast this with Chen Show Mao in Workers Party. I am in no doubt that WP needs donations too, trouble is, big names are not trotted out to ask for it.

dun you tink the party hiding behind the popularity of Nicole Seah is a manifestation of the media coverage on her? did the party sought to deliberately leverage on her popularity? but if it did..it certainly worked with regads to the results in Marine Parade GRC...about the entire Tampines team going missing during election campaign..tt i do not know...but if u r using yr own experience to guage their visibility during the campaign...i say tt's a flawed way of looking at things...

Just wonder why NSP ask Nicola Seah to ask for donation? Becos she is popular? Got many fans? Is she the leader? With her fame overnight, easy to get more donation?
Ask the guy which carry the poster ask her to marry him donate lah. She should ask donation during rally, now over all die hard fans back to reality. This is wayang show.

Who cares? I may be charming and popular and my aunt likes me and decides to sponsor part of my school fees over my lazy good for nothing cousin. Does that reflect badly on me? LOL at Nicole Seah being a big name, she is just some girl with her short 15mins of fame.

Chen Show Mao was given way more attention before Nicole Seah came up. Workers Party did not fall into this trap of "name-dropping", every candidate in all areas were given fair attention and did their ground work equally. Do note that this is independent of party size and resources. These are a direct indication of the party's views and leadership.

Flawed it may be, because indeed, that post was written by me. However I would be happy if anyone who lives in Tampines would come up and prove they had seen the NSP team on walkabouts in the neighbourhoods or house visits :)

It will be interesting to know how the discussion went behind closed doors. What were they thinking when they decided to spend way over their budget? Did they plan to just heck it and think of a way to repay their debt later? Was it always their intention to milk the public for donations? Were they counting on being voted in and then using town council funds or something?

I feel even those donating have the right to know.

Seriously she should have asked while campaigning. now everyone pack bags and go riao, then she come out and say they've exceeded their budget and ask for donation. :s22:

still think she's over-rated.

the issue is no matter how small a party is, such expenses can be forecasted to a certain extent. its not like what the msm says about such opposition only appearing once every 5 years during election for a few days only - unless what they have been saying is true? :o

yes, SDA and RP looked disorganised asking for even deposit money BUT yet even now, you do not see any of them asking for be reimbursed for all their expenses, even incidentals? so if they look disorganised, what does that make the nicole seah party? greedy bunch? there are smaller parties involved in the last election and you do not see them seeking donations to cover even their incidental expenses.

if money not enough, some of the unnecessary expenses can be avoided, like chope tissue? telecoms and transport need to claim? are they reimbursing their volunteers for these basic costs? if not, are they reimbursing themselves??

$35K for the whole team is only at most a few thousand dollars per person, gms already donated $10K. and yes, that is a very small sum of money for professionals to put their money where their mouth is. if not willing to even spend a few $K to represent the poor and needy and to hit the jackpot of $15K/mth, then i really question the motive or ability of these professionals.

as for con job, you are the one who brought it up but there is a reason why public donations should be handled carefully for transparency and accountability. else, any charlatan can try their luck and put up their personal bank account on the net and ask for donations.

did the NSP name drop her? if the party finds tt she's competent and is able to leverage on her to get more votes..why not? i can dare say tt even WP won Aljunied with the presence of CSM and his credentials....is not as if Nicole Seah is utterly incompetent and is only a flower pot rite and tt the NSP is shamelessly trying to gain more votes through sex appeal....
