think that's not the issue. even if elections dept allowed you to spend $5M, does not mean you can spend money which you do not have. also, the way nicole is going about it, claiming for even incidental expenses and transport etc which showed they are out to get reimbursed for everything.

also, asking for political donations to cover expenses through personal bank account? where's the accountability? what if some people still donate months or years from now? how to account for such donations? the proper way is to have a separate bank account strictly for such donations for the party.

i know thats not the issue here...i am just stating to those who think that they overspent, just some knowledge sharing:)

Seriously she should have asked while campaigning. now everyone pack bags and go riao, then she come out and say they've exceeded their budget and ask for donation. :s22:

still think she's over-rated.

agree but still think its not an issue of exceeding the budget. it appears they wish to be reimbursed for everything, else why would petty or personal amounts like telecoms, transport, incidentals even be in their claims?

definitely over rated. why cry over a couple of hundred dollars for one poor person for the media, then on the other hand try to recoup well over $35K which includes some dubious or unnecessary expenses?

shows that if you want to ask for donation, do it during the election period, not after

PAP set very short time, only 3 week notice. 19 april announce, 7 may election. Where got time to fund raising?

I think this is PAP strategy to crippled small party.

the issue is no matter how small a party is, such expenses can be forecasted to a certain extent. its not like what the msm says about such opposition only appearing once every 5 years during election for a few days only - unless what they have been saying is true? :o

yes, SDA and RP looked disorganised asking for even deposit money BUT yet even now, you do not see any of them asking for be reimbursed for all their expenses, even incidentals? so if they look disorganised, what does that make the nicole seah party? greedy bunch? there are smaller parties involved in the last election and you do not see them seeking donations to cover even their incidental expenses.

if money not enough, some of the unnecessary expenses can be avoided, like chope tissue? telecoms and transport need to claim? are they reimbursing their volunteers for these basic costs? if not, are they reimbursing themselves??

$35K for the whole team is only at most a few thousand dollars per person, gms already donated $10K. and yes, that is a very small sum of money for professionals to put their money where their mouth is. if not willing to even spend a few $K to represent the poor and needy and to hit the jackpot of $15K/mth, then i really question the motive or ability of these professionals.

as for con job, you are the one who brought it up but there is a reason why public donations should be handled carefully for transparency and accountability. else, any charlatan can try their luck and put up their personal bank account on the net and ask for donations.

er up until last week i saw RP and i think SDP (not sure about that one) asking for donations on their facebook as well. RP was also reminding people that they still have merchandise to sell to help defray election cost. are they at fault also? you think they professionals have alot of money to spare is it? you still seem to think 35k is a small sum. yes its not millions but to working class people that already is alot of money.

about the conjob i just said if u think they are trying to swindle there are ways to find out even if it turned out to be false. Nicole wasn't asked by the party to solicit donations. she ownself ask. if you du lan feel that she is being too much dun donate. she has never said die die u must donate else.

haha ish for transport?

yah rah.. i mean if u dun have the budget, just work with what u have. If u exceeded, then llst and accept it rah. I dun get why a donation (if any) ish expected from the people.

Ish this move initiated by Nicole Seah? Do the others know of it? Did the other NSP members published it on their facebook walls?

And i don't get why the amount goes to her bank account with her name and not one that's under NSP (or NSP treasurer or whoever's in charge of funding matters).

You are way too butthurt over this. Notice that there is alot more to the cost than just incidentals. Also I don't believe she fully expects to recoup everything they spent. I don't know how much donation they can get, but defraying a part of the cost will help them out. If you think $35k is nothing to cry over you obviously must be some rich elite miser of sorts.

Why are you hating so much over a simple donation solicitation?

no lei, even long after the election is over, you see people still asking for donations through their personal bank account :o

why is it that other political parties like wp, spp etc do not have the same problem?

i think the list was just a laundry list of what was spent on the entire campaign....i doubt very much the 35K would be used to defry on telecoms, transport or even incidentials....

I have to agree that after splitting between the 5 GRC members, the bill for each comes up to between $5-7k depending on GMS's donation. Seriously $7k is not a big amount and a politician worth his salt should be able to cough it out without any problems. If a candidate has problem raising even $7k, then it is a sign that he has issues with self-management and definitely not up to the cut of being a MP where he has to manage the entire GRC.

Think of it as we pay them to voice out for us so we can be "safe" from the ISD.

how can u be sure tt they didn't spent a considerable amount of their own money for the campaign?....first thing first...they already have to come out with 16K each for the election deposits which fortunately they got it back...

can please elaborate?

haha...what i mean ish i read some replies saying they overspend thats why asking for donations so i am just sharing some knowledge on why i think they never overspend because they can't probably overspend since there is a amt that they can spend on each voter(explained in my previous thread)

i am not into the discussion of whether they sld ask for donations or not etc.

I dunno about you but $7k for a 24 year old girl just out of uni is alot of money. I know I am a student too.

As for them gambling $7k to win $15k a month.....not sure if srs. I don't think anyone seriously thought that they can beat GCT. They already performed wayy better than expected with Tin pei ling self imploding. Highly doubt they are doing a mathematical gamble for financial gain here.
