selling merchandise is ok, but to talk about fighting for the people i agree we need alternative voices in the parliament and using the country's funds in the right way..........

but to join politics, you should already have set aside some funds or asked for it beforehand/during campaigning period.

first of all, we dont know if they would do a good job if they are elected MPs, secondly the money they get as MPs would also not benefit any of us directly.

fighting for a cause needs money and i think NSP's candidates arent that poor.

and never spend money that is not yet earned. all in all, i dont agree to donate to them at all for overspending. just like how YOG cannot be justified.

totally agree except for the part about overspending. believe its not overspending here, its their expectation to be fully reimbursed for their expenses.

"Telecommunications, Transport, photocopying, stationery and incidentals" all these sup sup sui one also can claim? :(

telecomms covers their phone bills?? transport cover taxi, mrt and bus fares?? incidentals also cannot cover from their own pockets?

to those who think they overspent, i don't think they overspent.

if moi ish right, there ish a certain amount they can spend on a voter. notch sure my example right notch but here is it:

say X GRC got 100 people, they can only spend S$2 on each voter, so they can only spend S$200.

moi think the finances hab to be submitted to the elections dept after the GE.

Democrats and Republicans fund campaigns because they want their politicians in to approve or introduce issues which benefits their industries

its not really the same

political donations are very common in the UK and US...in the United States...both the Democrats and Republicans politicans depend heavily on political dontions to run their election campaigns...dun see wad is so wrong about asking for donation in sg...

i wonder where they get their money from...

SPP and WP have an election budget, which is a portion of money from the charges they have collected from their town..

PAP is from... well, you know better than me..

other parties who do not have income, other than donations, where they get their money from to sustain operations?

PAP even worse, use your tax to fund their activities. Don't point finger, at most don't donate and shut up. PAP forced u to donate beforehand. $3.2Bn of tax used to buy your votes and more for their carrot upgrading.

its not really the same

there are donations from individuals like me and you too...and not just from lobby groups or rich individuals...so yes...there are elements of pork barrel politics in political donations..but at the same time..not all donations are made with ulterior motives

think that's not the issue. even if elections dept allowed you to spend $5M, does not mean you can spend money which you do not have. also, the way nicole is going about it, claiming for even incidental expenses and transport etc which showed they are out to get reimbursed for everything.

also, asking for political donations to cover expenses through personal bank account? where's the accountability? what if some people still donate months or years from now? how to account for such donations? the proper way is to have a separate bank account strictly for such donations for the party.
