Nth for saga? Nth to see there so not worth? For hakata to yufuin, you mean taking JR or the scenic train?

The activity I did in Saga was Shopping at Tosu Premium Outlet. You could consider this for a wet-weather alternative.

I would suggest to skip Yufuin No Mori sightseeing trains (pretty hard to be available due to popular demand even on weekdays) and get the station staff recommendations and assistance to book available Sonic train & onward connections between
Oita & Yufuin eg. Yufu 3 / Yufu 5.

Is putting fukuoka on the first day and last day better or just the last few days ?

no direct route, check rhe the route planner, probably have to change at kumamoto

not familiar with yufuin so better wait for others. of coz better stay near or at least not too far from station so can do beppu as day trip if u wish

I stayed beppu and went yufuin as a day trip. Hence I didn’t research a lot into yufuin. There may be more to explore if u look into it

essentially it is a long stretch of road that is like a huge fairyland and themepark. I think Is nice but some may think it is very commercialized. Whichever way it is, this is going to take you easily half a day.

if I break the area into three segments, the train station to the west and its adjacent segment is quiet with less shops while the mid and east segment is more lively closer to the bus station.

At the eastern end that is the lake which u can walk around in the morning.

I did a round island 13 days , I spend 3 days at nagasaki as i was there for the lantern festival.

Nagasaki got quite a number of attractions. e.g Mt Inasa, Peace park etc

Kumamoto i spend 1 day there for the castle. I was there the year before the earthquake hit.

IMO Nagasaki worth at least 2 days if you not doing any day trips from there.

Did you go to mount Aso when you are at kumamoto?

yes but we drove, can't advise how to go by train. crater became active & spewing toxic gas suddenly, couldn't stay on. it was really to breathe & stings so advise u to check aso status before going.

surrounding like grassland, komezuka were beautiful when grass are green. aso farm land got unique looking accommodation
