Being conservative is not too bad a strategy either
Think about it,
As a new brand, who will want to launch with 8Gen1 or 888 which are both major flops by Samsung?
The next best readily available chipset in the market will be 778G alr.... and they have plenty of time to tune for the hardware and software to complement each other.
Also, lets not forget when HONOR made its way back to the scene with HONOR 50, it wasn't flagship processor either (778) but was priced at near flagship price. Still sold like hot cakes in the end and look at where they are now.... holding a significant market share of the Chinese market and now slowly getting a foothold on the rest of the world

Doesn't sound impressive atm.

unless its something undercutting the flagships or great specs until beyond flagships.

probably just run of the mill :o

Or they developed what essential was trying to do with their ill-fated essential ph-2 and offer something unique in their OS which is actually useful.

Most brands OS also comes with useful features, i don't see how compelling it can be. :o
Unless it's a entire OS change or maybe some privacy focus OS.

The only thing i see going for it now is if the OS is light, fast almost stock like with just a touch of reskin.
There's not many "stock" OS brands, say pixel from google and oneplus* if they return to their previous form.

Pair that with great hardware and a decent price, they might have a hit.
Otherwise it's gonna be a tough sell imo.
