Bro touchme, able to share more about this and feedback on this camper van?
the experience with auto-sleepers worked out well. Will definitely use then the next time round.
The 4-berth version provides most free space, but tradeoff with lower view. Though I did not use it, but by walking thru a returned unit, regretted my choice.
Describe your traveling buddies (age/size/relationship), then I can provide a more accurate suggestion.

Those kind of carparks are designed for everything from motorbikes to tour buses, I think you'll be just fine. :)

House-on-wheels is def. fun for kids and some adults too, like me..haha
The 4-berth is definitely the choice for you, more car-like. With shower rcmded if traveling in summer. But I'm not too sure it's available in Brisbane, book early.

Andy is right. The only place that forbids campers are underground car parks in the city centres, due to height constraints. May even be able țo park overnight in the themeparks' carpark too, for early entry. (winter, off-peak season). I'll choose to do away with campsite parking hereforth. Beach/ gardens/playgrounds carparks have generous lots and public toilets. Nothing beats a swing/obstacle course for kids upon waking up/after breakfast.

Groupon your theme parks tickets. I still have 2 golf-puting course tickets for kids to giveaway, if you're keen.

Do make a 2 days trip to Springbrook NP, 1 hour from gold coast, for a 2 hrs waterfalls walk in the woods. Call Ben direct +61488236236, for <$100/night (off-peak) luxury accdm at gold coast. (hilltop condo or beachfront shared house, featured above)

not only house-on-wheels, but 'double floor house' with top deck sleeping (upstairs/downstairs) will be fun for kids. Now that they never sleep deck bunk beds anymore. Anyway, clear with your wife first, then talk. Not outdoor type can drop idea, like an earlier poster on this thread.

Some of Ben's listing (inc. Brisbane/gold coast +fiji island / $7k per night yatch)
x3WpY4Ol.jpg
the condo I stayed. From there, you can see his other listings above. Think it's up this season, was $110 in June.. Nonetheless I think the top listed funky house by mermaid beach looks good for $108 for 2a+2c, before additional fees+10% airbnb commission.

Call Ben direct, he shd be able to knock off a chunk (3-4 days rcdm for theme parks visits in gold coast). Best you notify me before calling, so that I can inform him prior, else he may not dare deal privately/attractively on phone.

For budget,, go for Auto-sleepers, 4-berth with shower/toilet, about $95 in winter (May-Jul), double in summer (Nov-Jan), though it seats 5. Sleeps 5 if kids are mini.
Perth and South or Sydney to Melbourne, should be good for first timers. Ask for SGD cash deposit to save you on interest and double fx conversions.

yes,, at least Britz/Maui has.
Advice again, split into 2x 4-berth instead for following reasons:
1) ease of driving
2) multi-tasking/emergency recovery
3) more privacy
4) better views for otherwise back passengers.
5) deposits and costs

Bro, which one you referring to as the better one from autocampers for 2?
1) Hitop Hiace (without Toilet)
2) Ford (without Toilet)
3) Toyota Hilux (with Toilet)
4) Suzuki Every (without Toilet)

For motorhome with heater by LPG(Maui), I have been reading on tripadvisor that it is not necessary to visit powered campsites if you have been travelling 300km+ / day. Less laundry trips. Do you have any experience on this?

Thanks in advance

When I quote 'Autocampers' I meant the company, not campervans in general.
I wasn't aware there is Suzuki Every 600cc in Oz. I used that in Japan ($100/day), when there were no campervan rentals then.

Quite useable in fact, with outdoor stove/table/chairs, ultra-fuel economy and manuverable. Only trouble is barang have to be moved to front cabin when sleeping at night, and back to rear in the morning. Surprisingly it sleeps 2 full height 6ft-ers flat, length just nice for a movie or 2, projected on cloth draped over its rear windscreen. (pic later)

Of the 4, I will still opt for the mainstream Hi-top, proven with most shopping storage space, walking/dining/bed space. Ford's config a little weird and lacks 'flow'. A truckload with toilet+waste water+human waste+heater, is a waste of driving energy and gasoline. Drove 7-berth truck twice (Europe + Perth-Albany), didnlt like them, and its experiences.

LPG means its own gas, so has nothing to do with powered sites, which only provides electrical+water supply, other than parking space, common kitchen/bathrooms (no gas top-up here). Latter is done with a cylinder swap at any gas stations. Did not visit any powered sites, on one of my 14-days trip about 100+km/day.

Laundry trips (coin-operated) and baths (token fee) can just drive in any paid campgrounds. Toilets plentiful everywhere (rule of thumb: park near them overnight, for leaks and after-meal washing).

Bro, thanks for your insightful and fast response.

Actually I am contemplating whether to take one motorhome (100+), and can camp free / cheaply (Legal sites), and not having to check into campsites for hot water shower facilities; or to take a hi-top (~70) and having to check into campsites for (~30-50 / night).

However, for motorhomes or hi-top (Please correct me if I am wrong), if i go un-powered for 10 days, it means that every night when I sleep I will have to on the engine throughout the night for aircon? Since there is no generator on the vehicle.

I am thinking of going this June or December, or next year June. Hence, weather could be either Winter or Summer.

Thanks!

Xdevolde, shower in truck is quite cramp and pressure pathetic, with limited water. Not shiok bath, be it hot or cold weather. Sts weather too cold also don't feel like bathing.

To have heater or aircon, you need to run engine, a new van will be quiet/little vibration. Depending on the temperature/breeze, leaving a gap in the windows, you may not need to turn them on. Typically, one of us will wake up 3-4am to turn it on, or wind up/down windows, depending on getting hot/cold.

After a couple of nights, you'll know how to gauge and set the optimal temperature/window gap.

Warning: idling your engine whole night 10pm-7am takes up quarter tank gasoline (don't wake up to dead engine and empty tank).
Need to watch engine temperature in summer.

hihi

based on my experience,i think both veh you need not check into camper park if you are comfortable enough staying on the free campsite.
pratically i think u can park anywhere and stay overnight, so long it not by any houses or recreation nearby
and dun be surprise that you are the only veh camping there in the wild !!
for showering and toilet business, can always go use the public wash room.
it super clean and even have hot shower

i feel WA is a "very" camper friendly place compare to other part of OZ
do download the apps wikicamper.
i find it very useful for campervan in OZ
it will tell you all the free camp site and even washroom

you will need AC power plug in to operate the cabin aircon.
but again if you go during winter, there will be no need for aircon. just close all the window and you are good to go.
and as you travel further up north, temperature will increase

lastly, i do agree with "touchme", its better to get to veh since there is so many of you.
no doubt 1 veh can accom all of you. but cons is more then pros

Finally my turn to make a post. :)

Just confirmed a relocation rental (with Jucy) from Coolangatta to Sydney to get a bit of a feel of it. It's only 3 days so a lot of driving, but it's only $1 per day. :s13:

Going down highway 1 is the quickest and most simple way, so being me, I'm looking at a much more convoluted way with about 4 hours of driving for each of the 3 days. My wife will help share the driving though.

Day 1 will take us down to Bryon Bay for a photo, then up through Lismore and Casino, and through the dividing range to Tenterfield, where we would join New England Highway. Probably stay at Bluff Rock or, if we have the energy, head all the way down to Beardy Creek.

Day 2 will see us following the highway past Armidale to Uralla, and follow Thunderbolt's Way. Bretti Reserve or Gloryvale looks like a good place for a quick overnight before we get all the way back to the coastline the next day.

We probably won't stop very much on day 3, given we're based in Sydney and most places are easily within reach anyway - we were up in Port Stephens just 1.5 month ago.

Will post back after the trip next week.

$1 deal on a tourist highway route on 3 reasonable days, is hard to find indeed.
Coach from gold coast to Sydney already $100+/pax. Didn't ask for gas vouchers?..haha

It comes with a full tank, and it's to be returned empty. Enough to get me about halfway. :s13:
