oh so if we leave the front engine on, the battery will not die off in the morning? (i suppose it consumes petrol instead?) Within the van there is there any normal powerplug sockets?

yeah the long night hours is gonna need some activities. We intend to cook nice dinners and bring some board games over as well. Projector sounds like a good idea just that its kind of bulky, and perhaps need bring speakers and labtop too.

Anyway which telco will be most reliable when travelling melb-sydney route?
I guess Telstra is generally best for rural area coverage

you can turn on your heater/blower with key on, but that will run your front battery flat within 2 hours, leaving u no cranking power to start engine in the morning. Thus on engine to charge battery while heater is discharging. Catch ball?

Projector cheap, ultralight and compact, insert thumdrive/sd card can play, (no need laptop/tablet), audio out connect to car stereo aux in, and u got a theatre..haha.
Last trip in Japan cold outside, we hung screen cloth inside back windscreen, on engine and heater, lie in bed watch with chips/beer/wine, jin shiok.

US$54, under 1 kg, AC powered using 12V?240V AC invertor mentioned above. I'm very satisfied with this.

US$106 free ship, palm size, USB powered . 0.6kg. Good reviews
(I'm skeptical about how 5V can be bright enough)

Along coastal, any telco will cover well, but Optus quite pop for data.
Lebara (Telstra-affiliated) $10 1GB/14 days, $1 external airtime, free intra-calls among friends. (dunno still applicable)

Just a reminder for those driving campervans, please try to move to the left at the next opportunity if you're holding up traffic behind you..

hehe thanks bro! any specific ones u think really required?

I have most of the stuff I think I need, but given it's my first camper van trip, there might be stuff that will be helpful that I haven't thought of!

Sent from Samsung SM-G935F using GAGT
some stuff I will be bringing (multi port USB car charger to charge up phones and powerbank in the day, torches with mini lamp for night use, 12V mini Fan heater, backpacks instead of luggage bag, microfiber towels, plastic bags, multipurpose string and army knife)

rest of stuff I intend to get at the supermarket there after collecting vehicle.

any other items recommended based on your experience?

1) headlamps - carrying/washing utensils/crockery to dark toilets, no hands to hold lamp, and also more directed.
2) 12v splitter - for the many car devices.
3) 12v-240vac invertor - for charging camera batts with Ac docks or other Ac devices
4) binoculars - very 3D look when watching greeneries, birds and babes.
5) 5m led strip - sidelighting van when dining out.
6) key tool - handy, clears customs when bunched with keys
7) selfie stick
8) rope/cord: for hanging laundry in/outside car, to secure luggages/backpacks
9) carcam / action cam (if buggying or chasing kangaroos for thrills)
10) Sim adaptor - for older phones, somestime the telco runs out of yr required size format SIM.

You seems more into edmw than when back home, we are like keeping you company while on holiday...haha.

npnt, which vehicle you having, and your planned route? Seems like you may have many days back in Melbourne for its Crown casino (was quite generous to me last time..haha)

When you get the hang of it, really no need to paycamp. No need to be plugged in every night (if that;s what the renter told you), as long as you are running engine 2-3 hours a day, the back battery is good to run 12 hours at night, with those low-powered fridge, lights and devices charging.

As mentioned earlier, in fact, there is ongoing campaign amongst local campers in Australia, against the high costs of holiday parks ($30-40/vehicle+$8 per head), afterall you're only using shared showers/kitchen, and still staying in your vans, no linens / room cleaning costs.(Laundry and some bbq pits are coin-operated)

Many vancampers are actually long-term stayers, town-hopping for jobs, or on assignments, with long term parking like $300-400/month. Socialise around, quite interesting to hear their travel/job adventures.

12 apostles best viewed in the morning, otherwise in the shadows during sunset. Sunset has school of fairy penguins creeping back to shore down below. There's actually as secret path to the beach below to get close to the penguins, but precarious due to the tide times. Try to reach 12apos before sunset, to catch them in the glimpse, and stay the night over for the morning view and walk.

The Port Campell 12 apostles visitor Centre car par,, has nice toilets (closes at 8 pm) there to park overnight too. No chasing, last year my friends/2 years ago I went. (winter time)

Enjoy your trip and Keep us updated on your adventures!.

Wah, open account to ask one qn.
There are many threads on visiting NSW-VIC (AU), but all roughly the same must/will-see places. But no doubt, most are repeating the typical/talkabout eating, queuing, shopping, tourist sites, city buzz and lights. Unless you are ready to go off the beaten track, campervan questions pls.

I dunno what places you've been.
But assuming revisiting as new or covering the usual must-sees in the smoothest route, this is my 2 cts input.
EHiLXxAl.png

Perth-(Pinnacles/Waverock-detour)-Dunberry-Basselton-Margaret River-Denmark-Pembleton-Albany & The Rugged Coast (Gap/Blowhole)-Frizgerald NP-Esperance-CapeLeGrande NP-Kalgoolie-Outback Desert-Uluru NP (Redrock)-Alice Springs-Cooper Pedy-Adelaide-Grampians-Great Ocean Route-Melbourne-Yarra-Phillip island-Sydney-Newcastle-Waterfall Highway-DorigoNP-Gold coast-Brisbane-Sunshine Coast.

The big inland detour is only for the sake of the Red Rock, Cooper-pedy and taking the monotony away from the waves/beaches, for the real outback desert experience. Skipping and going coastal eastwards, shaves u 5-7 days more for East Coast cities

Where have you already been?
If you already done Perth/Albany, then maybe take the north route to Broome, Darwin then south to Alice.(but that's a greater hell of a drive)

Add another 10 days for Tasmania?..lol
