generally, u do not need to care about the module type.. jus bid for modules that will satisfy the graduation requirement as shown on the statistic's webpage can liao.

Insecure and Confused

Hi, I am a year 1 stat major in NUS. The previous round 1c bidding I failed to secure Ma1101R and ST1131 while the current round 2A I was not allowed to bid for my core modules as well. Erm does anyone have any idea what is the chances of my appeal for these 2 cores be successful after round 3?

no idea.. but u can try telling them it is important for u to take thsoe mod cos it will fulfill the prerequiste of other core mod and list down wat are the mods that will be affected if u dun take it this sem bla bla bla.

Erm I secured Calculus only. Right now bidding for 3 electives - Understanding the Universe Gek1520, Econs EC1301 and Postwar Japanese and Anime JS2216.
At first I was really hoping to get 3 cores and 2 electives but it feels impossible now. Next sem I hope to take multitvariable calculus, probability and programming methodology but now I am stuck because I only have 1 core.

I am actually very surprised why you didn't get MA1101R. ST1131 has historically been high in bid points, you could always take in Sem 2.

... and unless if you're doing a Math Minor/Major, don't bother doing MA1104. MA2311 is almost same in syllabus, and is tailor-made for Stats students so you won't compete in the bell curve with the Math/QF majors.

I wonder where do you want to spend the points on. I remember paying 63 if I'm not wrong, my seniors paid 100+ too. 5 points is too cheap.

I have always told this to my friends - do a really proper module planning, and half the battle of NUS is won. The rest is down to hard work. If you really need the module badly, all the more you should spend.

Know how the CORS system work and make full advantage of it.

A proper planning involves looking for suitable alternatives in case **** does (and really do) happen. It also involves planning for the 10 or so mods you need to take this academic year, even better if you could do it further out.

Do not take MA1104 or MA2108 unless you are planning to take QF or maths minor. Just take MA2311 like raichu said.

For the one who missed his core mods, try waiting for round 3 bidding, IIRC sometimes there are limited extra slots opened for round 3.

Like what others have said, for the freshies please remember to really work hard and try to do well for the first sem. It will really set the tone/pace for the rest of your sems.

you can check the number of excess slot bidded for MA1101R and St1131 based on the report of the previous round and check out the available slots for the next few rounds then try to see if supply meets demands, give and take a few more for people who will appear out of the blue moon. Though most of the time it will be rather expensive if your protected round is over.
