cuda has been redesigned, u cant compare them 1:1. its probably within few percent +- of 2080ti.

I dont think there is re-designed, the only part I see where CUDA core is different 64 of the FP32 core is combined with INT-16 core, resulting in a 128 Cuda cores per SM rather than 64.

The computation power is a huge difference, and even if IPC is dropped, the fact that 3080 is 80%-100% faster than 2080 hint very likely how fast Ampere is.

3070 is likely not less than 80% the performance 3080, because CUDA cores give diminishing return with higher number. For 3080 performance it should be around 40-60% faster than 2080 Ti.

With that 3070 should be around 10-25% faster than 2080 Ti. Though I believe 10% should be most likely the case.

I think the 30 series FE is something that will grow on me. I am a huge fan of the 20 series FE and may consider getting on as a collectors item later :s22:

If im not mistaken, Nvidia used to only sell the reference design to AIB(partners) as they dont make their own cards to sell. Like.."Hey, MSI here is the blueprint for the card as a reference"
Then MSI can do their own mods, add another 8 pin/ 6 pin power connecter...extra hdmi/dvi ports etc etc.

The 3080/3090 with the new design is not exactly a reference card. Its like Nvidia is their own Nvidia AIB, they are making their own cards to sell.

No,.. NVidia have their own Founders Edition for both the 10 and 20 series. The 10 series is a blower style card (I have the GTX 1070 FE).

For the 30 series they seem to have customised their board (smaller) than the boards used for AIB cards from what I can see in the images floating around.

TBH if you ask me, the cuda cores on RTX 3070 is 5888 while the RTX 2080 Ti is 4352.

Based on the graphical computation power the 3070 is far more powerful than even the mighty Titan RTX. There is almost no doubt the 3070 is faster than 2080 Ti, not just on-par.

i suspect 2080ti will be slightly faster than 3070 at higher res.

the cuda core changes i think is like this..

game engines use floating points and integer instructions

in 10-series, the gpu process fp and int one after another

in 20-series, nvidia allow fp and int to run in parallel. they also increase fp and int cores in a 1 to 1 ratio. they were expecting games to use more and more int.

in 30-series, nvidia tweaked the 1 to 1 ratio, the fp cores still do fp, but the int cores can do either int of fp. they probably after 2 years of tests, found 20-series have too much int not doing work in games.

the cuda cores is from the fp instructions. thats why you see 30-series has massive increase in cuda cores. but the games perf uplift is not same % as the cores increase. meaning 30-series wont utilise all cores as cuda fp, as some cores still needed for int.

This video can explain more :o

Anybody here thinks that AIB cards all looks quite meh? I feel like FE cards are a lot nicer? Although I would probably still open those cards and slap in a waterblock. Lol

I might just go for a FE card if I do get one

Doesn't matter
At that price I will take 3070

I suspect that they will be snapped up in a matter of hours once they go on sale. I just hope they put a limit on how many each person can buy otherwise we will get into a horrible situation where people will hog cards demanding silly prices!!!

I believe that you are right, though not for the above reasons. At 4K, the 8GB VRAM will become a limiting factor.

Probably moot though since for 4K, most people will opt for something with a bit more hp like the 3080 or 3090.

Im not sure if my explanation is correct but anyway here is article which is what i was trying to say

The current RTX30 FE series is not a reference design pcb. Nvidia is now competing with all the other AIB brands.

What Nvidia does was, they actually sell a reference design pcb to all the AIB. Its up to AIB to remodel it to perform better or add in their own cooler design.

Nvidia themselves now have custom pcb design for their own FE card. Which spots better components from the reference pcb.

Those custom wc please watch out on the blocks that you are buying. Make sure it is fully compatible with the cards that you buy. Founders Edition, Reference, Strix, Gaming Trio, Aorus, etc etc.

The 3070 is targeted mainly for 1440p users, and it should offer solid performance. It should also offer decent 4K performance, but I think one have to make some compromises, depending on the game. DLSS could be something that Nvidia will push to make 4K possible, though not on every title.

For those looking for more horse power and with the budget, I think the 3080 is the better buy than the absurdly overpriced 3090. After this 2080 Ti fiasco, people should think twice about buying something that is incrementally better than the 3080, but cost more than double.

Wonder if AMD will announce RDNA2 before the widespread availability of RTX 30x0
Makes sense to do so but not sure if they're on time

There are rumors that they will announce RDNA2 later this month if not by next month. Either ways, I think AMD may be late to the party.

There’s very low chance of AMD announcing and still have the logistics ready to ship before Nvidia.

which is kind of weird though

reference pcb is supposed to be the "recommended" design

if they themselves are using a custom pcb and the AIBs make their own custom pcb too

then what even is the point of a reference pcb anymore if nobody is going to use it

At least from my knowledge, the best bins will be by Nvidia and those that choose to custom loop based on their design.
