Software Modified issue and Device Status : Custom

Just to repeat this issue again on the official Note Pro 12.2 thread.

Just purchased a New Note Pro 12.2 on Saturday, everything is good.
Tried to perform OTA update and a pop up saying that
"Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"

Checked the Device Status under settings and noticed that it is shown as "Custom" and not Official.

Though the issues doesn't seem to cause any problems so far but I am concerned that few months down the road when something fails in the note pro 12.2, Samsung may not honour my warranty because they may think that I have tampered with the software myself (rooting).

Talked to a Hotline Service Support and he remote logged into my Note Pro after installation of an Smart Tutor app.
Told me that all checks out fine but I shouldn't be seeing such messages as shown in the pics. Suggests that I bring down service centre to resolve but warns that if they deem that my set has been tampered with (as in rooted), they will not honour the warranty.

Went down to Service support on Sunday, the technical advisor is also surprised to see the issue but informs that this is not the first case. My note pro had to stay in for further investigation. Bear in mind that the shop that I bought it from also have other new units with same issue. Many more others proud note pro 12.2 owners on other threads are also reporting seeing the same things as me.

My opinion on this :

1) If its a bug and Samsung can give me a black and white to say that I am still able to perform any new updates in the future and also state that my device is not rooted or tampered with in any way, then I will walk away feeling better.

2) If they tell me that its a software issue and needs to reload another rom into the device then I will have to warn future buyers to be mindful if you are thinking of purchasing the Note Pro 12.2 as you might need to trouble yourself to bring this to service centre after you have purchased it.

Whether its an issue or not, hopefully they give me a good reply.
Will update when I get it back.

i dont think it is isolated. mine having the similar status.

recent note 3 official update rendered the device as custom instead of official.

Mine is the same - custom status. Strange thing is that the demo unit I played with at Samsung Experience shop shows "Official" status, but I didn't take note of the firmware version.

Not sure why there is a big hoo ha about the Rom..

It's already 4.4 kit Kat and the touch wiz is unique to 12.2 because of the added multi Window mode - 4 Windows.

If there is an update, you can drop by service center to do the upgrade and help you flash

Samsung KNOX Counter you should know | Kingo Android Root

Samsung has a Knox counter that will be triggered when u don't root with the Knox bypass.

This is one of the few safeguards in place.

OTA does not work as it will detect the firmware being 'modified' and won't continue. You are right Samsung can claim you modified the firmware and void the warranty. So it's better to raise this issue to them as soon as possible.
