Check the installation and do a reset by holding the button.

Off your vpn if any and make sure you are on 2.4ghz first with channel band between 1-11 not auto

This only happens when it is installed wrongly or capacitor not installed at L1 (assuming yours is non neutral). Please check on cabling again.

Intend to purchase an international m2 hub from lazada. Can the hub works with d1 switches from Taobao or shopee?

Anyone tried to use aqara M1S hub and couldn’t bind using aqara app?

I tried Mi home app and it can connect but cannot add aqara D1 switches in google home. So I have to use aqara app instead because I want to use google home for its voice command.

I followed aqara app instructions like 2.4ghz, strong signal, normal characters for wifi password. But still can’t bind the hub.

Anyone has same experience and managed to solve it?

For those who are confused with all the fragmented technologies in a smart home eco system, this might be a video to simplify some of the standards

Yes it does. I made a mistake in purchasing M1s hub from shopee and end up its region lock to PRC.

Is your M1s hub region lock to PRC? Mine is and I have to buy M2 from a local shop to replace it.

I have just move to my first own place and finish setting up the basic smart devices. Only manage to configure 4 scene / routine.

Uses Aqara D1 with M2 hub, combination of broadlink IR and RF device to control standing fan, Aircon, TV, Soundbar, xiaomi robot

Waiting for another 3 motion sensor to bring the automation up another level as I don't want to be talking to Google all the time. Some time, I just want it to work like when I enter bathroom at night, the light will just turn on, and off after some inactivity.

Aircon wise, broadlink can switch on when binded to GH but I have not figure out if I can set timer.

One meh thing is that the broadlink is unable to detect my Crestar Value 5 Blade ceiling fan, spent some time there and one Google search result states that the manufacturer may not use the same RF chip for the same model, hence it may not work. Anyone can advise how to find out the exact RF channel the fan is using? I checked with Crestar before buying that the RF channel is 433 which is in line with the Broadlink spec but doesn't work.

EDiT: Credit to Alex (EvilBear?) for your video. It helps a lot though I am a early adopter of GH and smart plug.

I gave up getting Broadlink Remote to work with Crestar. Dont know why people are recommending Broadlink, it even has problems connecting with my WIFI. Go get the Tuya WIFI+IR+RF Smart Remote instead. Works fine with Crestar fans and no issues with WIFI connectivity. Its also compatible with Alexa and Google. U can find it on Aliexpress.

https://blog.google/products/google-nest/new-google-nest-latest-cams-and-doorbells-are-here/

The new Google Nest Doorbell looks pretty good. Cheaper than their current Nest Hello doorbell and is battery powered, so there's no need to think about how to wire it up. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available via Google SG.
But If you want to unlock its full potential, a cloud subscription called Nest Aware is required, and not cheap too. Personally, I will stick to Ring Doorbell

Hi,

I am new to home automation and read through many comments in this thread but still as confused. Maybe some kind souls can help?

I assume that aqara is still the preferred option and this is compatible to google home?
I am looking to connect lights, aircon and curtains. Is there a one stop solution where I can purchase everything, or should I get everything online?
For lighting, I assume that I just need to get aqara switches?
Also for aircon, do I need an M2 hub in each room, or can I just get an M2 hub and IR blasters for each room?
For curtains, does anyone has experience buying the track from taobao or is there a reliable contractor in Singapore who can do the job at a reasonable fee?

Also the app that I should use is Aqara or Mi Home? What is the difference?
Many thanks.

Hi @swanage18
Yes, you're correct - Aqara is integrated to Google home.
I am looking to connect lights, aircon and curtains. Is there a one stop solution where I can purchase everything, or should I get everything online?
Of course - there are 3rd party providers for that - e.g Home @uto. It will cost more though

For lighting, I assume that I just need to get aqara switches?
There are many other switches that you can get besides Aqara - the Tuya switches are gaining traction here in this thread too.
Also for aircon, do I need an M2 hub in each room, or can I just get an M2 hub and IR blasters for each room?
For aircon - you just need a IR blaster only - no need for M2
There are cheap IR blaster out there - around $10:

For curtains, does anyone has experience buying the track from taobao or is there a reliable contractor in Singapore who can do the job at a reasonable fee?
Curtain motor/ tracks from Taobao or online is alrite. There are contractor in Carousell that does smart curtains - you can check them out.

Also the app that I should use is Aqara or Mi Home? What is the difference?
For Aqara if you get the international version (and connected to their OTHERS server) - response time will be better. For Mi Home to function well - you'll have to connect to their China server which will be quite laggy.

Many thanks.

Hi all, just asking cause now planning for switches to my new place.

For those who have used the SMATRUL switches, can I assign one gang to function as a virtual switch without physically wiring it to any lights? I.e. I place at the entrance of my home such that with one button I can turn off all lights at home. The rest of my lights physically paired to similar switches around the house.

Example of switch

Thanks!

i have both but i prefer Tuya over Aqara. - i use a lot of wall switches. Wife prefer touch over rocker so one major reason why we dump Aqara away

easier to set up, no need gateway. Straightforward and works reliably. However, wifi motion sensor has 2-3s lag. If it matters.
Thank you batniss - was still contemplating between aqara versus tuya ecosystem.

are you still using any aqara devices currently? Is there any you cant live without (which Tuya doesnt have)?

feel that aqara has a wider ecosystem of products to choose& buy from e.g. the aqara single control panel i'm looking at - tuya doesnt have it (https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a1z0d.6639537.1997196601.711.77c77484pBb2ey&id=630801438842)

This is nice but I dont need because i will be using my phone.

I only like Aqara more because non neutral works well without the need of a capacitor as compared to Tuya where i need to install a capacitor(when you buy the switch it comes with it)else it won't work properly.
