Here's me using echo in my bedroom. It unifies my harmony and wemo. :)
Apologies for the amateurish video. Also, have since moved it to my bedside table so i no longer need to raise my voice..

I am only using the hub. You can use the harmony app on your phone to interface with the hub to control your devices.
However to get echo to communicate with harmony, i am running a hue emulator on my pc. Alternately, ifttt can also be used, but i prefer the emulator to avoid the round trip ifttt would take.

You mean you have to keep an hue emulator server running whenever u want to use it? Can you run it off a Rbpi?

Not raspberry pie, but instead just on my 150 dollar windows mini pc. Mini pc is on all the time anyway cos connected to my tv as my source of entertainment. Set the emulator to run as a service, so its more of a setup and forget. :)

My osram lightify turnable 60 that i ordered from amazon Germany just arrived. The 3 bulbs were successfully detected by smartthings. And yes! Echo was able to control them via smartthings too :)

congrats! i got an Echo too integrated into my Control4 system (thanks to Digital Homes).

My only gripe with echo is the volume cant be operated independently with music and speech.

Hi,

Has anyone here with an Amazon Echo manage to get it to work with weather? I mean without saying "in Singapore". I only manage to get it to work with time. But the weather is not working.

Thanks.

Hi, want to ask you about the Wemo Light switch. Do you know if i can get it from some shop in singapore? Also does the voltage matter since the US version is 110v while singapore has 240v.

Also do you have the contact of the electrician who can help install this? Thanks.

sorry bro i dont have first hand experience with the wemo switch.... you might also want to be careful with the switch shape because USA is rectangular... UK is square... it will not fit into our backboxes so must hack the wall

wondering whats the best solution. Am looking at automation solutions from bigger brands like maybe google samsung amazon etc. At least they won't close down suddenly etc

There's typically 2 routes you can pursue.

The first is consumer HA which can be through by getting items yourself primarily off places like Amazon (Hue, Nest etc) and fitting up these to serve your needs. This is much much cheaper but may not integrate into your lifestyle fully and will likely be less polished (if you want a hotel kind of feeling then this isnt the route to go). Players include Insteon, Wink, Smartthings etc

The second is professional HA which high-end residences and commercial projects employ. It's typically more polished and bespoke for your lifestyle but set aside a pretty penny for it (10-20k min). The only major players in professional home automation are Crestron, Control4, Savant (Avoid the remote because its all IR).

Google doesnt have home automation. Neither does amazon (only the echo which is a device we integrate into home automation systems). Samsung has smartthings which is okay but not a full automation suite.
