besides those perpertual and retail bonds, can a person with limited capital like myself invest in other kinds of bond? I doubt it right.. haha.
You do not need bonds under the following scenarios:
(1) You are young and have decades to go before retirement
(2) You will not be touching the money for at least the next decade
3) You have very high risk tolerance
(4) You can maintain the discipline to consistently average down deep market downturns
(5) You want the absolute greatest returns possible
Other than that, bonds are there to provide a peace of mind when the market goes on a roller coaster.
Different people, different strokes.
Again, it is dependent on the individual.
Unable to say more unless you can provide more information.
I am 24 years old and the money will not be touched. I have about $100k to put in and i plan to enter by doing some DCA.
The portfolio allocation that I am looking at is around 70/30 stocks/bonds.
As for SG and foreign shares, for SG I am looking for dividends so stuff like telcos and banks. While for foreign I will probably will using index with small amounts of stock picking.

Wow 100k, then DCA might cost you (100,000 x 1%) = $1000 commission fees liao.

Okay we are off to a good start.
How much of that 70% stock allocation will be invested in SG and overseas respectively?
Likewise, how much of that 30% bond allocation will be invested in SG and overseas respectively?
Again your personal risk tolerance comes into play.
Thanks for the replies guys. Some more background, I am graduating with a degree in finance and have read some books.
My main concern is the split between SG and foreign due to currency. My view is that global growth will be higher than SG in the long run so my portfolio allocation will be skewed towards global.
As for transaction fees, aren't most brokerage charging from 0.2%-0.28%?
Knn 24 yo got 100k
BB spotted
Aren't you a DBS Treasures client?

While economic growth is modest, the threat of a full-blown recession is unlikely. Our 2017 picks are A-Reit, CapitaLand, Frasers Centrepoint Trust, Frasers Logistics & Industrial Trust, Global Logistic Properties, Keppel DC Reit, OUE, Raffles Medical Group, Sheng Siong and Singtel.
