I'm looking at switching from Starhub cable TV to Singtel TV. Looking at the Singtel site, it seems BBC World News isn't one of the channels offered. Can anyone confirm this?

Just checked with ST. The offer is only when you’re the cable and cable internet (Not fibre)with either M1 or Starhub then you can switch over to ST and get the 24 months free internet. And same thing to SH if you want to get the 24months free fibre internet.

Indeed this is true.

These are the news channel offered on Singtel

  • Sky News HD
  • CGTN
  • NHK World - Japan (HD)
  • France 24 (English)
  • Deutsche Welle (English)
  • Russia Today
  • FOX News Channel
  • CNN International (HD)
  • HLN
  • Bloomberg Television (HD)
  • CNBC Asia

So if BBC news is important to you, you are stuck with Team Green.

But surely there is an alternative way to get access to BBC News right? There should be an app right?

Ah. I see. Thanks for updating. Guess I do not qualify then. :s22:

Hmm. Are there still customers on Cable Internet? Even then the number must be very small.

Frankly, I do not understand the logic. Singtel should be more aggressive and just offer 2 yr free fibre Internet regardless of whether customers are on cable of fibre internet.

This is a once-in-a-long-time opportunity for Singtel to grab customers from their pay TV competitor. There are a lot of frustrated Starhub customers who will be willing to seriously consider switching, given the proper incentive to do so.

I say a 2-yr free Fibre Internet will do so nicely ;)

Real news bro? Any link to support this? I might call / go tomorrow!

Sorry I can not find the exact link. I think it is more like S$20+, basically some Starhub Cable TV users get the promotion to convert to Fibre TV and then get two years of Fibre Internet for free. Some also got offer for the content pack etc and effectively only pay less than S$30 per month. The basic 3 group is said to be around S$33.

You can probably ask in this thread. I remember I saw the S$20+ number from the thread.

I am a long time Mio TV user myself, very low usage now that my daughter goes to primary one but still worth it due to the one year half price offer and SingTel Circle perks (free yearly mobile phone upgrade which is said to be worth S$350 per year).

Just read through a couple of pages on this.

Time for me to switch from cable tv to fibre tv as well.. more incline towards ST now due to their channels line up.

I also have an issue of needing 2 STBs, and was thinking of running wireless, but realised need to pay $10/mth to run airties..

I might just run LAN cable about 40m from the room to the living where the ONT is located.. feasible right?

40 meter should work. To play safe you can check with SingTel to confirm.

Btw you will get ONR as a new subscriber, just use Ethernet cable to connect your SingTel TV boxes to the ports of the ONR. They will give you a wireless router (AC Plus) which act as an AP for your wireless devices to access Internet.

I'm inclined to switch to Mio Tv given that i can get the trio pack with EPL at a cost so much lower than with SH. But i have a small problem. Browsing through the channels, i can't seem to find anything on TVB shows like SH has on 855? Any one can verify that.

Yes. Confirm. No TVB on Singtel.

Also missing from Singtel channels: BBC News, BBC Earth, BBC Lifestyle, Smithsonian, Love Nature, Curiosity, Blue Ant Entertainment, Blue Ant Extreme, Dreamworks

These are the major differences between Singtel and Starhub.

No TVB on SingTel TV. If you do not need Live TV, you can subscribe to TCB Anywhere SG for legitimate streaming of TVB content. Premium zone is at S$5.98 per months.

https://www.tvbanywhere.com.sg/

A bit of problem though if you want to use it on TV -- the app is mainly meant for mobile phones and not working on official Android TV OS device like those Sony smart TV or Mi Box S or NVidia Shield TV, and it does not support Chromecast.

If you need live TV, the only legitimate mean I know is through Starhub now.

Actually I think you can watch on big screen on certain Android TV boxes. It does not work on official Android TV OS boxes like Mi Box S and Nvidia Shield TV but may work on TV boxes running mobile phone version of Android.

Out of my 4 generic Android TV boxes, all rooted, one of them is able to run TVB Anywhere SG, I can only test the basic zone though. I think unrooted boxes has higher chance to work.

BTW TVB News app 无线新闻is free if you need only the live news channels from TVB.
