Hey croc, so whats your set up now? You have existing SH Fibre, so they activated port 2 on the FTP, then ST provided you a ONR?

Then connect 2 STB to the ONR via LAN?
Fibre 1 SH Still
Fibre 2 ST -ONR -Port 1 (Actually was told any port) - STB
- Port 2 - Media Bridge

Hi windwaver,

If there is something that we can better assist or advise you with, kindly PM us your contact details.

Our colleagues can be in touch with offers that you can consider to make an informed decision on switching to Singtel TV, just as beano shared in this thread.

Hi beano,

We are glad to be of service to you and trust that your needs are being addressed.

Thanks.

I've called Singtel with regards to jumping over from Starhub (broadband and TV services). However, the CSO that picked up my call don't even know what Starhub offers and just give me URLs to Singtel's website (which I already know).

If Singtel were to expect people to jump ship, your CSO needs to be better. Simply giving people URLs doesn't cut it these days.

Frankly, after the call, I really have 2nd thoughts about Singtel.

For Singtel stuff, CSO just give me URLs (never answer my questions) and doesn't even know what Starhub offers when they are targeting Starhub customers.

In summary, the CSO doesn't know the competition and didn't answer any of my questions with regards to the differences.

Actually for me, the guys here reached out to me, and assigned someone to communicate via email, he was professional and informative and also bundle some deals.. where as SH didn't bother to lift a finger when i told them i was going to terminate cable tv..

Save yourself the grief & dont jump ship. I did & regretted.

1. TV guide only has chinese text for chinese channels such as ch 8, ch u, star chinese, etc. My parents watch but rely on english subtitles so when tv guide synopsis is all chinese, big problem.

For starhub tv the language for tv guide can be english or chinese. Stinktel’s lame excuse was it depends on what the provider gives them. So i asked if she is saying mediacorp doesn’t like stinktel & that’s why they only get chinese text for tv guide & she was dumbfounded.

2. Pausing a show is poorly implemented. For starhub as long as your hard disk has space, u can pause for as long as u want & take all the time u want to watch after u unpause. In fact once i paused, forgot all about it, went out for several hours, came home & found it still paused!

For stinktel tv, i pause a show, go have dinner, come back 30 mins later & its unpaused, ie its showing the current show. Stinktel’s explanation was there is a time limit to when i MUST watch a paused show if not it will not be available for viewing any more but couldn’t explain why its so sh*tty.

3. If u have a poor memory, good luck cos stinktel tv has no alerts. Starhub u can set several alerts & 5 mins before show starts a reminder pops up. U can either change channel immediately or leave it, after which it will auto change channel 5 mins later.

I asked on the online stinktel chat if such feature was available & told yes. Now i find out its not.

I guess i shouldnt be surprised since from day 1 their online chat is useless. In fact their entire CS team is useless. Speak to 5 different ppl & get 5 different stories & no idea who is correct!

From enquiries about BB to mobile to tv, i’ve had headaches from day 1 with different staff saying different things.

Lesson learnt. I should have known that if their CS is so useless, their products would be equally sh*tty.

Now im stuck with stinktel for 2 years.

Ya. I feel singel should have a diff subtitle as I used to have hub tv
And now the gems channel on japanesss but it’s subsitle is in Mandrian and can’t use to to amend to Mandrian spoken Thai is odd

Singtel should improve on this if singtel don’t improve I will jump to hub tv again
Stinktel CS blamed the provider saying they only provide chinese so stinktel can only use chinese. Its obvious shortcoming of stinktel’s system.

I whack her back & ask her why all the providers including mediacorp like starhub & provide then eng & chin text in the tv guide synopsis but hate stinktel & only provide chin text & she was speechless 🙄

Those who have tried Singtel TV Go, how is it with EPL and Champions League? Any issues? Any difference between Home View and On-The-Go? Laggy?

Would appreciate some feedback. TIA!

Can HG8244H ONR be in bridge mode so I can use own router yet the remaining 3 ports on HG8244H ONR use for Mio TV set-top box direct connection?

If so, if I have 3 set-top boxes, can each have a direct connection to each of the 3 ports or must it share one port through switch?

By right if its operating in router mode, there is no bridging support.

Even if there is bridging support, ont will only support 1 LAN port.

You need to own self find a managed switch to support singtel tv set top boxes through a 3rd party router, since no 3rd party router can run both internet and singtel tv together in one port.

Either way, you are still stuck.

Yes but only with the SingTel 1Gbps +1Gbps plan. Port 1,2,3 of the ONR can be connected to your three SingTel TV boxes directly through Ethernet cable.

Port 4 is in ONT mode where you can use your own router for Internet access.

For other plans like the normal 1Gbps or 2Gbps plan, no way.

Yes this is what I want. My friend just subscribed to 1gbps and given free basic tv said this way is possible as he is using it but he has yet to try because he did not account for extra lan cable to his tv console. I will ask him if he can try for my sake.

Is this 1+1gbps physically 2 x fibre line or 1 like VQ 2gbps?

If it's 1 x fibre line and if 1+1gbps can work this way, they should provide it even for 1gbps plan because rightfully, iptv bandwidth should be provision separately on top of bb bandwidth and not eat into it.

The reason why I thought it might be possible for the remaining ports to be be configured for other use in spite of bridge mode is cos my current VQ ONT is configured in bridge mode yet the remaining 3 ports is configured as a dumb switch so I did not have to install a switch at my db for the cat6 return cable from my room where my Asus router is. Of the 3 dump switch configured ports, one is used for return cable and the remaining 2 is for Smart TV and android box.

I'm trying to avoid using the Asus Singtel profile where port 4 is provision for IPTV since I want to get 3 set-top boxes which will then means I have to add one or more switches.

1Gbps + 1Gbps is a gaming oriented plan. It is still using single fibre line. Total bandwidth is 2Gbps, split into two part. First 1Gbps is for the first three ONR ports. You can add switches here if you need more ports. For example you have three boxes which needs three ports, but if you need to connect more things you can add a dumb switch. You can still use it for Internet access because the three boxes will not saturate the 1Gbps bandwidth.

Second 1Gbps is for the ONR 4th port in ONT mode where you can use your own router.

It costs higher than the 2Gbps plan. The 2Gbps plan is mostly useless for most of the people.

Going back to your original question, you can have three SingTel TV boxes connected to the ONR, your own router has to be configured as an Access Point irregardless of how many SingTel TV boxes you have (say zero or 1 or 2 or 3) if you are on the regular 1Gbps plan because your ONR can not be bridged.

In the end you will have to upgrade to the 1GBps + 1Gbps to use your own router and three boxes.

That being said, even with the ONR, you can try to configure your own router in router mode and ignore the double NAT problem some experts say not good. It will actually work. Search the forum for more info.

I am not exactly sure if there are really problems with double NAT in this case. One of the problems mentioned before is that device connected to your own router can not access those connected to the other three ONR ports, but who cares in this case since they are the SingTel TV boxes.

But I am not an expert in Networking so take my input with a grain of salt.

Yes it is possible but you need to spend efforts to convince SingTel. YMMV. So far only one user got this done.

Hi kenchi,

Thanks for asking.

You can sign up for Nihon Starter at $19.90 monthly, without signing up for any other TV packs.

For your first set-top box, if you choose:
1. set-top box with with DVR feature: $12.90 monthly
2. set-top box without DVR feature: $4.90 monthly
However, we are running a promotion currently offering free 6 months for set-top box with DVR only.

For your second set-top box, which will have to be non-DVR, it will be $14.90 monthly. However, there is an ongoing promotion for the second set-top box at $5.00 monthly for 24 months, for your consideration.

You can call 1609 to sign up, thanks.

Is the $5 monthly for second set top box promo still going on?

Not into Sports myself but it is said that SingTel Cast Sports Plus pack is the cheapest.

https://blog.moneysmart.sg/entertainment/cheapest-premier-league-subscription-singtel-cast/

S$49.90 per month no contract.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/lifestyle-services/cast/sports-plus

SingTel cast can be installed on Mi Box S or Nvidia Shield TV. Or you can cast from phone to TV using Chromecast dongle or Mi Box S or Nvidia Shield TV. It is also available for Apple TV and Samsung Smart TV as well as Sony Android TV.
