I am using Asus RT88 router. Ont > Asus RT88 > switch for internet. forget which port number which is connected from Ont singtel tv to this port then direct to patch panel direct to one room that have singtel set top box.

Then you need to change your switch to a managed one if you intend to use internet and singtel tv together..

Have you tried checking if your router has a VLAN function.


Can avoid wasting money on a managed switch. Unless you run out of ports already...

I not sure whether the router have a VLAN function.

But the switch have 16 ports is to network for all the data point in each rooms. The switch is to connect from the router to the patch panel which is connected to each rooms.

then you will need to configure your switch. I don't think switches use VLAN in the same way as routers do... the topology is a lot more complex.

My switch is simple type cannot configure. But I didn't connect the singtel tv to the switch.

How to have 2nd singtel TV box connected?

I have a singtel TV box connected directly from ont to the router designated port for singtel TV then connected directly to a patch panel data port.

If I wish to subscribe to one or two more singtel TV boxes, how to I connect them to my home network.

I have only one data port in each room, can I use a switch in the room data port so that I can have both internet access and singtel TV.

it works for you because this simple switch supports IGMP snooping, which is essential if you want to connect both internet and singtel tv together and use concurrently.

therefore, no need for a managed switch.

Hi, can I ask you have separate network cable for internet and Singtel TV? Or one network cable into your rooms and the D-Link switch split into internet and singtel TV?

I want to change to ST Fibre and TV. but currently i m using AC5300 Router
so how do i continue to be able to use the router so which is better way

1) ONT--Singtel Router---MIO TV set up box and ASUS Router

or
2) ONT---ASUS Router -----MIO TV Set up Box

if i use Option 2) I read a few of them post that ASUS Router sometimes don't Sync very well with MIO TV Setup box which cause problems

but if i were to use Option 1) It means converting a AC5300 Router to AP Mode. Will my Wireless Speed be affected and my PC is connect to my router via ethernet cable so now with this option should the ethernet cable be connected to ST Router or it can be through the ASUS Router.

I have the same question, any members currently have this kind of setup can advice and share your experience.

ONR in utility room connected to Unmanaged switch. LAN points to switch.
LAN points in various room either connect direct to STB or another switch/AP for both STB and internet.
