It was a separate pack. Not sure if it still is BUT given that they are moving Celestial movie to this pack JingXuan pack, I guess you will have to pay for it as a separate pack.

I’m currently still on the “honeymoon” period with SingtelTV since I’m getting all the channels for free during the 1st 30 days after my service was activated.

I switched from SH and was for many many years, used to mindlessly channel surf, especially those Chinese packs, FOX, and HBO. Switching over from SH to ST was really not by choice since SH has also been closing down channels and their older STB (the black colour one) is functionally rubbish. I was surprised how much more responsive the SingtelTV UI is although their catch up tv navigation is really shiat compared to SH.

I signed with ST knowing full well that Disney is closing off all those Fox channels. But since Netflix is available, I don’t think I’ll be missing out too much. My neural pathways will take some re-wiring to change from mindless channel surfing, to viewing program previews and deciding which ones I’ll add to my to-watch list.

My contract with SingtelTV is 12 months so if I can really cut the cord totally, then i’ll just have to figure out how to get my TV binge purely from streaming services.

Hi All, due to home layout, i am considering to upgrade the wifi. However, as everyone is saying its a pain to modify the wifi setting when MioTV is included. As such, i would like seek the advice of many here.

My current set up is

ONT (confirm is ONT not ONR) -> Singtel Mesh Router -> MioTv.

However, i am thinking of upgrade the network to:

ONT -> Singtel Mesh Router -> MioTv
Singtel Mesh Router -> Network Switch -> Asus Zenwifi XD4 Node 1, 2, 3 (via Ethernet backhaul)

In the above situation, should i actually disable DHCP on Singtel Mesh Router and use Asus ZenWifi to allocate DHCP or the DHCP server must be from Mesh Router?

Thank you very much.

Edited to show the correct mapping

Your switch can not be connected to the ONT directly. Whether the following options will work or not will depend on your floor plan and LAN ports location. Are the Singtel Mesh Router and Mio TV box located in the living room? Where is the network patch panel (which links to your room LAN ports) located?

Option 1: keep Singtel Mesh Router and buy Asus Zenwifi XD4 3-pack
ONT -> Singtel Mesh Router as main router -> Mio TV
Singtel Mesh Router -> Network Switch -> Asus Zenwifi XD4 Node 1 in AP mode -- XD4 Mesh nodes 2 and 3 (Ethernet backhaul)

Option 2: do not use XD4 3-pack, but rather get an Asus router with more LAN ports and then XD2 two pack.
ONT -> Asus RT-AX58U (example, as main router) -> Mio TV
RT-AX58U -> Network Switch -> Asus Zenwifi XD4 Node 1 and 2 as AIMesh nodes (Ethernet backhaul)

There are more complicated options like using a VLAN-capable switch. In that case, it is possible to connect the switch to the ONT. But please check if the above two options work for you or not.

Hi. Thanks for your advice. I was consider Option 1, but i guess the spacing was removed when I posted. Can i check, is it a must to have DHCP Server enable on the Singtel Mesh router? Can I use XD4 mesh as a DHCP Server? Would this affect the MioTV?

As for the network Switch, I am considering TP Link SG105 because I have know that SG105 is capable to run on MIOTV, but i would still prefer to run MIOTV directly from the router.

I am a little surprised by your recommended on Option 2. Option 1 may be a cheaper option but is there any specific reason to consider Option 2? Main Router of AX 58U will have better speed?

Whether Option 1 and 2 are working or not, will depend on your floor plan (LAN ports location, ONT location, Mio TV box location, intended main wireless router location, patch panel location). Maybe both options will not work, if you do not have enough LAN ports in the main router area, maybe both options will not work. So please post the details.

Option 2 is better in a few aspects
1) Single SSID with AIMesh
2) You can have better FW features of the Asus router. This may or may not be important to you though. For example, you can not change the DNS server in Singtel Mesh router but you can do it with Asus router. Asus router also has many other features compared to Singtel Mesh Router.
3) RT-AX58U will also have better wireless performance than Singtel Mesh router. But this may not be the main reason for Option 2.

Take note XD4 can not be used for Option 2 as it has only two ports, if use one port for Singtel TV then you can not use Ethernet backhaul any more.

For Option 1, you can also use single SSID by disable Wifi of the Singtel Mesh Router. But it is not possible to use the XD4 as the main router. So you have to use the DHCP function of the Singtel Mesh Router.

BTW, TL-SG105 is not a VLAN capable switch, only TL-SG105E is VLAN capable.

Just an example, if the ONT, SIngtel Mesh Router and the Singtel TV box are all in the living room, and the patch panel is also there. Then you do not have issues with either Option 1 and 2.

If your ONT and patch panel are in the DB box, and Singtel Mesh router and Mio TV box are in the living room console area, then you need to check how many LAN ports you have in the living room console area.
1) If single port, then both options will not work well.

1a) ONT -> patch panel --> living room LAN port 1 -- Singtel Mesh Router as main router -> Mio TV

Singtel Mesh Router --> XD4 main unit in AP mode

Main problem is that no way to use Ethernet backhaul already for Node 2 and 3.

1b) ONT -> Singtel Mesh router in DB box --> patch panel --> living room LAN port 1 --> Mio TV
Singtel Mesh Router in DB Box --> patch panel --> XD4 in rooms

Main problem of 1b is that no way to put the XD4 in the living room.

2) If double ports, then it should work. For example, here is Option 1.

ONT -> patch panel --> living room LAN port 1 -- Singtel Mesh Router as main router -> Mio TV

Singtel Mesh Router -> Asus Zenwifi XD4 Node 1 in AP mode --> living room LAN port 2 --> patch panel --> Network Switch in DB box -> -- XD4 Mesh nodes 2 and 3 (Ethernet backhaul)

Hi xiaofan. Thanks for the help. I will try to explain it without attaching the picture.

You are right. I have 4 LAN Port in my patch Panel. 2 Lan ports goes to the living room, and 1 Lan port goes into the other 2 room each.

The Patch Panel, ONT and Router will be together.

I was actually considering:

ONT -> Singtel Mesh Router (turn off Wifi) -> LAN port 1 in living room -> MioTv
ONT -> SIngtel Mesh Router -> Network Switch -> LAN port 2 in living room -> XD4 Node 1 in AP Mode -> outgoing port to TV
Network Switch -> Lan Switch 3/4 into the respective room (this will be consider Ethernet backhaul right?)

In this case, i believe the wifi will cover the entire house.

Like you have suggested for AX58U, I would very much prefer to get ASUS system to control the whole network instead of Singtel Mesh. However, the Singtel Mesh router is no choice since my family needs the MioTV to work. Before AX series, i use to have trouble running Asus VLAN tagging for MIOTV sometimes. so that’s why i am wondering if it is possible to disable the DHCP server on SIngtel Mesh Router and let XD4 handle the DHCP Server instead while letting MIOTV work.

Not sure I am confusing you or anyone else.

I did think about Option 2 at first. However, i decided against it because of the cost. Although like you have mentioned, the advantage of Option 2 is better wireless system and i apologies for typo in the network switch. You are right, SG105E is the correct switch.

...

Without the picture it is a bit difficult to check what you are trying to do is correct or not. For example, in your plan, are the ONT, SingTel Mesh Router, TL-SG105E switch and the patch panel all located in the DB box? If that is the case, it seems that your plan is correct.

Anyway I think you get the rough idea right. You just have to test by yourself.

I am using the Asus RT-AX82U (with SingTel other VLAN profile) with SingTel ONT and SingTel TV box and in general no issues with SingTel TV.

But yes it is more stable to use SingTel Mesh router with SingTel TV box. And you get more functions like app remote control and using Netflix or StingRay services on the SingTel TV boxes.

You should be able to get rid of the network switch in the patch panel area as singtel mesh router comes with 4 lan ports right ?

ONT -> Singtel Mesh Router (turn off Wifi) -> LAN port 1 in living room -> MioTv
ONT -> SIngtel Mesh Router -> LAN port 2 in living room -> XD4 Node 1 in AP Mode -> outgoing port to TV
ONT -> SIngtel Mesh Router ->Lan ports 3/4 into the respective room (xd4 node 2/3)

Now that you have mentioned this, it would make sense. i was thinking that all the nodes should be connected somehow, but somehow forgot that the mesh router is also able to function as a network switch. In this case, ethernet backhaul is still right?

Really appreciate the help provided. Apologies that my knowledge of networking is limited.
