i watch jiale demand, the theme song havent sing finish, miotv hang already. just now tech support was saying maybe modem and channel not compatible

I remember once watching a channel (can't remember which one now), the screen froze and then went black. I pressed the remote "ch/pg +" to go next channel, that next channel was ok. I pressed the "ch/pg -" to return back, that channel was still black. Moments later the transmission came back.

This tells me the problem is with the source. Like all PayTV station, ST is relaying the broadcast directly in realtime from the source owner. Something can go wrong in the process. Should not be ST backend capacity any more because that already taken care of.

You will notice that in a lot of the show adv, it usually state something like - Every Friday HK 8pm JKT 7pm - something like that. If only shown in SG and only on mioTV, no reason for screening schedule time to be like this.

I am not sure whether this is the problem you experiencing. Maybe if happen again, try the ch/pg + and - to check.

for me i face this issue with pace router with the grey box...

suddenly no signal. red color on 'service'

due to my existing issues with stinktel...i was given free 5 mths recording setup box and aztech router as swap

I have not used the Pace router before, but if understood to be the same manufacturer as the white 2Wire2701, the LED lights are Broadband and Internet.

This the same for the Aztech DSL1015EW(S) when I was on ADSL previously. When I lost ADSL, the Broadband LED went red. Internet LED is whether I was logged in or not. I did not have a Service LED.

Presently, I am using the Aztech DSL7002GRV(S) and there is an additional IPTV LED light in addition to the Broadband and Internet LED. There is no Service LED.

On the grey Motorola non-DVR set-top box, there is Link and HD LED. I do not have a Service LED.

Presently, I am using the Tatung HD DVR. There are HD, Rec, Link LEDs. There is no Service LED.

Afraid I do not know what is Service LED so I am unable to help find out more.

Sometimes ST does 'slot' their own ads in like that botak football fella popping up and interrupting the TV show / drama.

ST ads never appear on SH afaik.

Noticed sometimes there was this 1 sec pause before the ad comes on so that could potentially be a case to the screen freezes for some users.

BTW, any info when ST will be launching AXN ? Saw on the AXN wiki that it will be on mioTV but they never say when.

Really miss CSI and Hawaii 5-O =:p

Yes, ST (like all other PayTV stations) do in fact insert their own adv but during broadcast adv timing reserved for them. They are quite professional on this. You will notice they don't interrupt the realtime broadcasts that you missed something. The rights owners leave this space to the PayTV stations.

You can notice this very obvious in the F1 live races. The commentators are given timings on when the live broadcast will break away for adv. So too the PayTV station. This is all part of the process. If you watch F1 live races before on TV3 and City Sports (the MediaCorp station that was closed years ago), you could see the stations did not follow the adv timing slots and suka suka as and when insert their own adv. Result is during the scheduled adv slots you could notice the commentators went silent. And then after a few minutes you hear them say welcome back.

It is always good to understand how things work, then we can better understand problems when they do occur.

I do see in the wiki that it is Ch 538 and coming soon. There is no Ch 538 at the moment so guess got to wait. But think I did see a small adv at the top left of screen abt a movie with The Rock (fromer WWE wrestler) picture. Looks like the movie, The Hero.

I still remember one thing very clearly. When ST outbid SH for the EPL rights in 2009, SH offered to show the EPL on their station. ST's reply was that "it was 3 years too late". I did not understand what that means. Was it some some sort of negotiation or arrangement that was rejected? "3 years ago" would put that as 2006. When was mioTV started? I have been wondering what this "3 years too late" thing all along.

I found the answer today. And the MDA had to be blamed for what happen thereafter, from 2006/2007. And they had to U-Turn and bend with the cross-carriage regulation "3 years later", this time also benefiting SH.

Anyone still want to blame ST for bidding high for EPL rights?

The facts of "3 years too late":

Government rejects SingTel

Government rejects SingTel’s second appeal
Posted on 06 August 2007

Singapore- New IPTV service provider SingTel’s second appeal to gain access to cabler StarHub’s content covered by exclusive carriage deals with content providers was turned down by Singapore's Minister for Information, Communication and the Arts (MICA), Lee Boon Yang, on July 27.

Following a three-year study on the impact of exclusive carriage contracts, the minister upheld the Media Development Authority of Singapore’s decision against SingTel’s initial appeal on May 10, 2006 which ruled that StarHub’s deals do not necessarily restrict competition in the local market. He stated SingTel had been unable to prove that StarHub’s agreements “foreclose” potential entrants' access to key content in the market, and that "there remained ample scope for commercial negotiations".

Thomas Ee, StarHub's Senior Vice President of Cable, Fixed & IP Services, said, "StarHub supports MICA's views with regard to content exclusivity, as they are consistent with the known practices elsewhere in the world. We have always maintained that there is sufficient content out there to launch a competing pay-TV service, as has been proven in the past week. It is also our view that new pay-TV operators should differentiate their services by offering new content. Otherwise they risk driving the already high cost of content even higher." The ministry’s ruling came a week after the debut of SingTel’s mio TV service on July 20, going head to head with StarHub’s cable service for a share of the pay TV market worth some S$350 million (US$230.1 million). mio TV is offering 33 channels including 24 linear and 9 on-demand channels together with on-demand movies on an a la carte basis. StarHub has 40 on-demand channels offering VOD content and 107 channels available on its digital platform from August 11 with the addition of the Football Channel. The Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) commended the Singapore government for not intervening. Simon Twiston Davies, CEO of CASBAA, noted that exclusivity enables pay-TV content providers and platform operators to differentiate their products. He expects competition to help Singapore’s pay TV market experience growth similar to Hong Kong, where four pay-TV operators competing.

SingTel rejects StarHub carriage offer - launches ESPNEWS on mioTV
Posted on 23 November 2009

Singapore - SingTel has again rejected StarHub's offer to carry its mio TV content on its set-top box.

SingTel Singapore's chief executive officer Allen Lew said that the rejection was primarily based on the fact that (the company has) already invested in its own pay-TV system to carry this content. He added that the feature functionality of SingTel's platform is superior to their competitor's. SingTel had previously said that StarHub's offer had come "three years too late".

StarHub made the magnanimous offer late last month, in a move positioned as consumer-friendly in that it avoided customers having to face the two-set top box, or either/or, dilemmas.

StarHub's latest statement: "We are disappointed with SingTel's decision, as our proposal was aligned with public interest and consumers' wishes. It appears that a single set-top box option for consumers will not happen through just commercial negotiation."

Meanwhile ESPNEWS was unveiled for SingTel's mio TV.

The channel's layout features four main data streams - a ‘video window' carrying sports action and highlights; a ‘bottom line' graphic streaming results and upcoming fixtures; a ‘top line' graphic providing a continuous update of news; and s ‘sideline' graphic providing latest standings, rankings and statistics from the top professional leagues around the world.

Currently launched with an English voice-over, ESPNEWS will also be available in Cantonese and Bahasa Melayu at a later date. It is already available in IndoChina and the Philippines, with roll outs across other Asia Pacific markets in the coming months.

Which STB are you using?

Motorola / Tatung (the 1 with clock) / Cisco (latest)?

I'd suggest cutting the tech some slack... if he's early (good right?)

Unless you have some specifics - then no choice, you'll want him to come at the designated time.

Don't be too hard on the tech that is dispatched to service you... they're still human and like you and me - subjected to customers' berating - sometimes for no rhyme or reason.

They need to run quite a few places and the job is seriously no joke - speak to them and you know what I mean.

Some are, some are not. It depends what format the rights owners are broadcasting their channels in.

Examples of wide-screen: 513, 571
Examples of non wide-screen: 580, 585

Previously the Chinese channels my parents watch are in widescreen aspect and since yesterday these channels are in non-widescreen aspect.

I looked at the Mio display settings and it seems to be in order. Strange.
