(1) Do u mean Singtel ONT is different from other ISPs provided ones and that other ISPs provided ONT can support any other ISPs services concurrently?
(2) Or do u mean each FTP port and thus the associated connected ONT can only support one ISP?
If u meant (1), then I will subscribe the bb from other ISP first and have Mio TV run on the same ONT on another port but of course I will double check with Singtel if this is possible again. I did made known to Singtel CSO my intention is to get bb from other ISP but he did not make the distinction if the ONT is provided by whom.
If u meant (2), I doubt I will be needing 2 bb for load balancing or redundancy. But when u mentioned I will be stuck with only 1 port on the FTP thus 1 ISP and to chose wisely, it seems to imply there may be potential for headache and grieve or limitation. Is it downtime when cutting over from 1 ISP to another after contract expires cos no free port for parallel migration? Or simply a bad choice of ISP that I would have to live with during contract and no recourse to subscribe to another ISP due to used up FTP port? Would you kindly elaborate so I can avoid whatever that may be?
If there can be a choice of either (1) or (2), what differences, pros and cons will there be other than increased power consumption?
Also, all opennet installation including BTO flats should have multi core fibre and thus both FTP ports already properly terminated? It will be good to know in advance for planning my network and cabling in case I want to extend the patch fibre from the FTP so I can place the ONT away from the service box.
All the headaches with digital voice requirement and multiple STBs thanks to MDA allowing competition supposedly beneficial to consumer and HDB for providing BTO flats with an incomplete structured cabling for data and voice.
Thanks heaps!
Sadly due to the HUGE MESS:
Your point 1. is sadly VALID.
Only Singtel services (HSI/IPTV/VOIP) can be delivered via the Singtel ONT.
Everyone wants to be an "OpCo" themselves - this creates another huge mess - and defeats the purpose of Nucleus Connect - which everyone is breaking away - Refer to setting up their own OpCo - confused already?
So this means - Starhub / a small initial batch of users from M1 / a batch of users from MyRepublic / Super Internet - are still on the so called "common ONT".
At this point in time:
(Do correct me if i'm wrong or not updated in anyway.)
Starhub & SI are still using this common ONT.
M1 - Own OpCo - own ONT
MyRepublic - Own OpCo - own ONT
VQ - Own OpCo - own ONT
Singtel - Own OpCo - own ONT
Get the picture now?
As for downtime, its how you manage with the provider. You have to be detailed & FIRM - TO THE CORE - else these clowns will just pull funny dates and make your schedule haywire.
As to your query on wrong choice of ISP, its pretty much this way. Once you sign, they decide to change ToS. There's nothing much 1 can do but to serve out the contractual period.
Do also bear in mind, OpenNet has this stupid "port residency" period of 6 months.
Eg. Once you terminate eg. Port 1 Singtel in say, Jan, the port will stay occupied till June, before they release it to other providers/RSPs.
Most modern homes are cabled with only what we call - 2 core fiber - meaning only you have 2 termination ports.
One can however, request for another FTP to be pulled in - another 2 core fiber - but so far, I've only seen 1 case.
Businesses however, were previously getting 2 core fiber, but at the present moment, 6/8 core are being provided (Singtel).
As for extending your fiber point - a patch cord can be purchased. Or - sacrifice 1 of the patch ports and leave the ONT at that location and patch out to the desired location for your router.
