An unmanaged switch should do the trick - but do not plug normal devices to the ports of this switch as the multicast packets will swamp the network.

Great, has anyone used an unmanaged switch with Asus Routers where LAN4 port is used for MioTV to get 2 STB working?

(1) Do u mean Singtel ONT is different from other ISPs provided ones and that other ISPs provided ONT can support any other ISPs services concurrently?

(2) Or do u mean each FTP port and thus the associated connected ONT can only support one ISP?

If u meant (1), then I will subscribe the bb from other ISP first and have Mio TV run on the same ONT on another port but of course I will double check with Singtel if this is possible again. I did made known to Singtel CSO my intention is to get bb from other ISP but he did not make the distinction if the ONT is provided by whom.

If u meant (2), I doubt I will be needing 2 bb for load balancing or redundancy. But when u mentioned I will be stuck with only 1 port on the FTP thus 1 ISP and to chose wisely, it seems to imply there may be potential for headache and grieve or limitation. Is it downtime when cutting over from 1 ISP to another after contract expires cos no free port for parallel migration? Or simply a bad choice of ISP that I would have to live with during contract and no recourse to subscribe to another ISP due to used up FTP port? Would you kindly elaborate so I can avoid whatever that may be?

If there can be a choice of either (1) or (2), what differences, pros and cons will there be other than increased power consumption?

Also, all opennet installation including BTO flats should have multi core fibre and thus both FTP ports already properly terminated? It will be good to know in advance for planning my network and cabling in case I want to extend the patch fibre from the FTP so I can place the ONT away from the service box.

All the headaches with digital voice requirement and multiple STBs thanks to MDA allowing competition supposedly beneficial to consumer and HDB for providing BTO flats with an incomplete structured cabling for data and voice.

Thanks heaps!

Sadly due to the HUGE MESS:

Your point 1. is sadly VALID.
Only Singtel services (HSI/IPTV/VOIP) can be delivered via the Singtel ONT.

Everyone wants to be an "OpCo" themselves - this creates another huge mess - and defeats the purpose of Nucleus Connect - which everyone is breaking away - Refer to setting up their own OpCo - confused already?

So this means - Starhub / a small initial batch of users from M1 / a batch of users from MyRepublic / Super Internet - are still on the so called "common ONT".

At this point in time:
(Do correct me if i'm wrong or not updated in anyway.)

Starhub & SI are still using this common ONT.
M1 - Own OpCo - own ONT
MyRepublic - Own OpCo - own ONT
VQ - Own OpCo - own ONT
Singtel - Own OpCo - own ONT

Get the picture now?

As for downtime, its how you manage with the provider. You have to be detailed & FIRM - TO THE CORE - else these clowns will just pull funny dates and make your schedule haywire.

As to your query on wrong choice of ISP, its pretty much this way. Once you sign, they decide to change ToS. There's nothing much 1 can do but to serve out the contractual period.

Do also bear in mind, OpenNet has this stupid "port residency" period of 6 months.

Eg. Once you terminate eg. Port 1 Singtel in say, Jan, the port will stay occupied till June, before they release it to other providers/RSPs.

Most modern homes are cabled with only what we call - 2 core fiber - meaning only you have 2 termination ports.

One can however, request for another FTP to be pulled in - another 2 core fiber - but so far, I've only seen 1 case.

Businesses however, were previously getting 2 core fiber, but at the present moment, 6/8 core are being provided (Singtel).

As for extending your fiber point - a patch cord can be purchased. Or - sacrifice 1 of the patch ports and leave the ONT at that location and patch out to the desired location for your router.

R u using other ISP fibre broadband and MIO TV on the same ONT? Who provided the ONT if so?

I am using Singtel Fibre. But I want to have 2 STB, 1 in living room, 1 in master bedroom. Using Asus N66U router which only allows LAN4 port for MioTV. Anyone can advise on how to "split" this LAN4 port into 2 STB?

Good qns but I don't have the solution cos planning my new BTO flat networking for multiple STBs in different rooms is exactly what is making my head big now not to mention also thinking about future if starhub also goes iptv and we wanna have both and yet want another fibre ISP other than these 2 :s22:

Starhub HAS gone IPTV - for commercial. Gradually rolling out to consumer end now.

Seems you want:

IPTV - both starhub & singtel
Internet - from another?

Then sadly you'll have to go for these 2 giants (or its entertainment bundles) unless you want to bear the cost of another FTP.

Networking multiple STB to different room, but still maintaining your data points?

Pretty simple - be prepared to blow a huge budget on not only cabling - but multiple smart / managed switches as well. So that 1 cable will serve all data/IPTV to your desired locations.

Hope this answers your question. :D

Have setup 1 similiar project for a customer doing this, 3 different VLANs - HSI/MioTV/SH (future).

Unmanaged switch - so 1 cable from LAN4 to LAN5 on switch ... LAN1 & 2 goes to the respective STBs (eg 5 port 10/100 will do) - already mentioned earlier.

Unless you want data to be served then you need a smart switch already.

Today, I experience the WORST customer service ever from SingTel.

I called their 1609 sales hotline to enquire on World Cup 2014. Waited quite long finally got through. Spoke to a lady, and she was quick to blah away that if I recontract 2 years and I get World cup free. This I know already. But more important for me I told her is whether I still continue get free HD DVR (as per my current subscription) for the new 24 months period. She asked for my subscription detail, checked and said, "Everything remain the same!"

Now, I have been through life long enough to just take the word for it.

So I asked: "What is everything the same?"
She: "Your mio TV subscription remains the same."
I: "So I continue to get free HD DVR for the new 24 months contract period?"
She: "No, your mio TV subscription remain the same. Same price."
I: "Do I get free HD DVR for 24 months?"
She: "No, this will only be for the current contract period."
I: "So it is not everthing the same. The price is not the same."

She hung up on me.

Now, my mioTV subscription is Jingxuan Gold. What is so everything about it. How can this be ever changed. Of course Jungxuan Gold will be jingxuan Gold. Why can't just tell me no free HD DVR? Why try to hootwink with everything the same? If I was borned yesterday, I would have been suckered in by her.

Today's experience changed my impression of SingTel's customer care. Before today, I have rated it very highly. But no more. Their method, their trickery, their attitude to bluff is real bad.

Why the con, singTel???

Their use of call centre and commission contract sales is killing their reputation. What should I rate their customer service now?

At this time, I am still boiling. On a scale of 0 to 100, I will rate at most 20. The 20 is for all the past good experience, includng the China girl who I recontracted the ADSL BB Premium with 2 years ago. I cannot take away her excellent attitude. The very bad experience with the Pinoy at Com Centre last October and with whoever today killed all the ratings for me.

SingTel, you are real bad now. Care to look at yourself from the outside?

Toh Da Sheng, you should stop sending all those letters if your people is not capable to back you up. What's the point to write, "To sign up, please call 1609 (9am-9pm)..." To get your customers to be suckered by your colleagues?

I cancelled my miotv. Wanna return my mio tv top set box but was told to keep it since my fibre plan expired next year. But since my mio tv has expired and I no longer want it, why cant I return? She told me it is tie to my fibre bundle. So fine, I kept it but told her my sport grp I want to cancel. So I only pay for my fibre internet.

But this morning, I still received the bill for mio tv and fibre? WTF?

Btw, my mio tv is 1 year contract which has expired, whereas my fibre plan is 2 years contract till next year march.

Like this can fight anot ar? I wanna call up today but it is public holiday.

once your miotv contract is up, you can return the box. if you don't return the box, the subscription will not end even if you call 1688. this is the policy.

There are a few designated drop off points across the island in which you can visit. The miotv subscription for subsequent months might be able to waive off once you return the box.

Alternatively, you might want to visit Singtel Shops (strictly singtel retail shops, not authorised dealers or retailers) to enquire more about the regulations.

In my experience, they will be in better position to advise you as this is related to ground sales.

Hi Sir, thanks for the advices.

I did went down to Jurong Point Singtel store and tried to return my top-set box as I no longer want to watch anymore. But I was told by the lady working there that even though the contract for Mio-tv services has expired but it was signed under "Fibre Bundle Plan". The only way to stop paying for the Mio-Tv services was to cancel the sport group service on the spot which I did and therefore, I would only pay for my Fibre internet whereas my Mio-TV will not be chargeable.

But this morning, I saw they still charge me for Mio TV sport group. Zzzzz

The problem most of us encountered when we have bundled plans is when we decide to end one service, only then we will see the other current service/s (we are still paying for) stop having discounted rate, we have to pay more, etc etc.

By end of contract when we would like to revert to the much earlier (i.e. cheaper) plan way before we were having this bundled thingy, only to be informed.... that the previous plan has been discontinued. :(

My miotv is always fine. smooth and lagless (apart from the tv box being slow).
But whenever i attempt to play with other routers and try to connect to other routers and connect back to the 2wire with same settings, my miotv always gives a TV signal loss error. Image comes on for 2 sec at very most and remains static.

Anyone encounter this?
