even if got $120 coupon, I'm guessing 3/4 of the value will be eaten up by the shop. Now the cheapest is $719 without coupon, if really got $120 coupon, lets see if it'll be $600 or not?

Smart or not doesn’t matter, it’s not a good thing to consumers that’s what matters.

Actually, what's the big deal whether it's officially certified or not? It's not like we'll go swimming with the phone. As long as you can use it under the rain, or the phone surviving an accidental dip in the toilet bowl, it's more than enough.

Are you willing to pay a higher price just for the certification? It's all a business decision, and OnePlus decided against getting it certified to keep costs low for consumers and of course, protect themselves from repairing water damaged phones from abusers.

If the MSRP is the same as those flagships, then it is reasonable to complain of the lack of IP cert, wireless charging and a few other features. Yes you miss out on those features, but you get equally speedy and fluid performance (maybe even more so compared to other 3rd party UI). OP6 is considerably cheaper than said flagships. Except in SG of course since the distributor jack prices like crazy. Even in EU with ~21% VAT it is still cheaper than in SG lolol.

I dont quite believe in the IP certification. I had Sony Z2 and it was certified IP55, I run the phone under the tap , and one day my LCD panel was damaged due to the water inside the phone.

IP certification done by an official/licensed body is of course legit. Remember that IP cert is not exclusive to consumer electronics. It also applies to industrial parts, where ingress protection is much more needed. It is a baseline in mechanical/electrical design.

Also IP55 is a pretty low rating. Per the description:

Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. Test duration: 1 minute per square meter for at least 15 minutes

Water volume: 12.5 litres per minute
Pressure: 30 kPa at distance of 3 m

no matter which IP rating no way im using it under water. it just takes a slight misplacement of adhesive to seal the holes between the screen and the body and water will find their way in. thats just me la

i have friend that use sony XZ2 premium and he wash the phone under soap and water after a bbq dinner. i still dont have the courage to do so lol

Submersible marine cameras are rated as IP68, and they are submerged 24/7. Nothing wrong with being careful, of course, but just saying that the rating is an important and trusted engineering standard. If you declare an item as such and it turns out to not meet the requirement then you are liable.

When got promo coupon, the Qoo10 seller will increase the price then do a "Let's make $xxx" that their usual way to eat the customer indirectly. Let's wait and see if there will be one and what's the price. Fingers crossed

I thought coupons cannot be used with discounted items? I tried to use my $10 coupons but cannot.

well they might try 101 ways to wiggle out of liability, they'll say yes it's IP rated on Day 1 from factory, but how they know if u never do funny things to it, or drop it on a carpet or whatever to make the device lose it's rating? Maybe they see a scratch and say Oh u drop it or knock it against something then one of the seals became loose, etc etc..

Just like cars, they'll try to wiggle their way out of warranty issues as much as possible, like car batt die, then they blame that u leave your car cam on too long, or never drive enough to charge the batt sufficiently..

so think these are good things to help u when u drop your phone in the sink or get wet due to rain, but better not tempt fate. haha

don't worry la, sell it off at cost lor, some bros value the 2 year warranty and they'll be happy you got ready stock, no need to order and wait for delivery.
